This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Why?” Director Lv had practiced traditional Chinese medicine for a lifetime, and he could not be said to be faint-hearted; otherwise, he would not have prescribed a dose of rhubarbs over a hundred grams.

However, after seeing Du Heng’s dosage, he couldn’t help but feel a little horrified.

Rhubarbs are a type of laxative with the functions of purging accumulation, clearing heat and purging fire, cooling the blood and detoxification, and dispelling stasis and promoting menstruation. However, since rhubarbs are bitter and cold, they can easily injure the stomach qi and qi and blood. For those with spleen-stomach deficiency-cold and qi and blood deficiency, it could be a poisonous drug if misused, rather than a good medicine.

Now, this patient had just undergone an intestinal obstruction surgery and was suffering from intestinal adhesions and incomplete obstruction, indicating a severe qi deficiency and blood deficiency.

Under these circumstances, his own use of a dose exceeding one hundred grams demonstrated great courage.

It should be noted that the prescribed dosage for rhubarbs in internal decoctions is generally 3-15g, with 15-20g used for severe cases.

A five- or six-fold increase, quite bold, right?

But looking at Du Heng’s medication, it was more than ten times the amount.

Is he trying to cure or harm people?

Du Heng understood Director Lv’s thoughts, so after writing the prescription, he did not leave in a hurry but waited to give an explanation.

As for Director Lv’s ”why” question, Du Heng knew what aspect he was asking about, so he directly explained, ”If it is caused by the external invasion of the six pathogens or damage from improper diet, leading to the sinking of spleen qi and the rising of stomach qi, then an obstruction will be formed. At this point, using Major Qi-Coordinating Decoction, especially in the dosage used by Director Lv, would be sufficient.

However, now the patient’s qi mechanism is in disorder, with upward movement but no downward movement, unable to enter and unable to exit, which indicates block and repulsion disease.

The patient is old and frail, has undergone surgery, and has not eaten for many days. The spleen, stomach, and intestines have lost their ability to function. The dosage of rhubarbs and magnolia is not enough to activate the linkage of the spleen, stomach, and intestines. Treating block and repulsion disease requires a powerful, purging formula, with qi-regulating medicines acting as the commander. If the dosage is too small, how can they fulfill that commanding role?”

However, Director Lv could not accept this explanation and asked worriedly, ”But can the patient withstand such a large dosage? What if there is an uncontrollable situation?”

”That’s why I only prescribed two doses of medicine,” Du Heng replied. ”Also, I increased the magnolia dosage to use it to suppress stomach qi reversal, restore the triple burner’s qi transformation rapidly, and then stop after removing the obstacle.”

But Director Lv still shook his head. ”No, I still think this medication method is too risky.

”This patient is already over sixty years old, and after one intestinal obstruction surgery, he couldn’t withstand it, resulting in intestinal adhesions and partial obstruction. If such a large dosage of laxative is given, it could be fatal in case of complications.

”No, I don’t agree with this approach.”

Du Heng was not the least bit upset by Director Lv’s opposition. Consultation is about drawing on the strengths of others and obtaining the essence of their knowledge.

Having someone object is being responsible to the patient and a form of protection for the person who made the suggestion.

Because once a problem arises, the patient will suffer, and the doctor who made the suggestion will be to blame.

At this point, when the prescription was clearly opposed by Director Lv, the Proctology Department Director became conflicted, and the attending physician next to him didn’t know how to feel.

Should he be happy? His last hope was gone. Should he be unhappy? Yet, seeing the young Deputy Director, who always made him uneasy, get thwarted like this was strangely satisfying. What a tangled, awkward, and miserable feeling!

However, Du Heng did not argue with Director Lv but instead fell silent in deep thought.

Using Verified Prescriptions has many advantages, including tried-and-true treatment results that provide a practical tool for future generations.

However, its disadvantages are also obvious.

Like now, if the Verified Prescription you use is changed too much from the original, it would face doubt from everyone and concerns about potential problems.

To solve this problem, one could only create a prescription based on the patient’s actual conditions.

But this requires a doctor to have a wealth of diagnostic experience and an extensive knowledge of Traditional Chinese medicinal materials, which is not an easy task for current TCM practitioners.

Many TCM practitioners nowadays can’t even properly use Verified Prescriptions. This is why doubt and skepticism towards TCM keep growing, and the reputation of TCM practitioners as ’Slow Doctors’ becomes increasingly prevalent—the problems are truly deep-rooted.

But these issues did not affect Du Heng, as he had the ability to create prescriptions on his own.

So after a brief moment of thought, Du Heng did not choose to argue with Director Lv, but instead picked up a pen and paper and wrote a new prescription.

Director Lv didn’t know what Du Heng was writing, but when Du Heng started writing, he did not disturb him. After Du Heng finished, he took the prescription from Du Heng’s hands before the Proctology Department Director could have a look.

”Mirabilite and Radish Seed Decoction?” Director Lv identified what Du Heng had written immediately.

Although many Medicine Ingredients were added, the foundation of the house remained the same, with all additional Medicine Ingredients revolving around mirabilite and white radish.

Du Heng smiled and looked at Director Lv. ”Director Lv, what do you think of this house?”
