This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Idiopathic epilepsy?”

”It’s hard to say. We should wait until he wakes up and then have a doctor from the Psychiatry Department conduct an assessment.”

However, less than half an hour later, Director Wang felt there was no longer any need to call a psychiatrist.

Guan Bo, who had just regained consciousness, stared blankly for two minutes and then transformed into a madman. He sat up in his hospital bed, yelling and shouting, screaming about killing this person and finishing off that one. During his agitation, he even leaped right out of bed.

Director Wang observed Guan Bo, who had been restrained, given an injection, and was slowly calming down. He then looked at Tang Yinglong, who stood beside him with an incredulous expression, sighed, and said, ”Vice Dean Tang, Doctor Guan seems to have suffered intense sudden stimulation, leading to a dissociative state where he can’t distinguish reality from imagination. In this condition, he’s not fit to remain in the Emergency Department. I’m going to transfer him to the Psychiatry Department. They have professional psychiatrists there, as well as specialized hospital rooms and nursing staff equipped for his treatment and care.”

Tang Yinglong’s eyes were lifeless. This was all too incredible. How could a perfectly normal person suddenly develop a mental illness? Just like that? With no warning whatsoever?

”Wang, is Guan Bo’s condition serious?”

”I’m not a professional psychiatrist, so I can’t say for sure. But judging by Doctor Guan’s current state, it looks a bit like schizophrenia.” Director Wang sighed. ”If it truly is schizophrenia, it could be quite troublesome.”

Tang Yinglong took a deep breath. ”Alright, transfer him to the Psychiatry Department first. Don’t let this affect your normal work here.”

He then turned and walked out, immediately taking out his mobile phone and dialing a number.

”Vice Dean Tang, hello.”

”Put Sir Zhang on the phone. I have something urgent to tell him.”

”Vice Dean Tang, my teacher is currently discussing something with Professor Lan Changhua. Could it perhaps wait a little while?”

The anger simmering in Tang Yinglong’s heart erupted. ”Can’t you understand, or can’t you hear clearly? Is there something wrong with your head? I said, I have an *emergency*. Now, immediately, put Sir Zhang on the phone!”

The sudden scolding left his junior somewhat stunned, but his own anger ignited in an instant. He could tolerate Guan Bo’s outbursts because Guan Bo was Zhang Dewen’s favorite student, and he needed to curry favor. He could also endure Zhang Dewen’s temper because Zhang Dewen was his teacher, crucial for his future career. But who the hell do you think you are, Tang Yinglong? I’m not a doctor at your hospital. Why the hell should I take your temper?

He wanted to curse back and hang up, but he couldn’t muster the courage. He had grown accustomed to being cautious and prudent; confronting someone head-on wasn’t his style.

He glared at the mobile phone in his hand, then turned and walked towards Zhang Dewen and Lan Changhua.

”Teacher, Vice Dean Tang Yinglong says he has something urgent to discuss with you.”

Zhang Dewen frowned. He was a little annoyed at his student’s lack of discretion, but even more irritated about the matter he was currently discussing with Lan Changhua.

”I’ll call him back later.”

”Vice Dean Tang said it’s an emergency and that you need to take the call immediately,” the junior relayed softly, his hand over the mouthpiece. He was used to this sort of thing.

Zhang Dewen’s expression soured, but glancing at his junior’s hand still covering the phone, he could only offer Lan Changhua an apologetic smile.

However, after only a few sentences on the phone, his expression became even uglier.

Putting down the mobile phone, he said to Lan Changhua, ”Professor Lan, our discussion is no longer necessary. I have something to attend to, so I must leave.”

Without waiting for Lan Changhua to reply, he left with a dark expression, his junior following. ”Book a flight now. We’re returning to the hospital immediately.”

The junior hesitated for a moment, then hurriedly asked, ”Teacher, what about the lecture at the Capital College of Traditional Chinese Medicine tomorrow?”

”Call and postpone it. We can go another time when available.”

”What should I say is the reason?”

Zhang Dewen suddenly flared up. ”What should you say? Do I have to teach you that too? Can’t you think for yourself for once?”

With that, he leaned back heavily against the car’s rear seat, panting.

A silence fell between them. After a moment, Zhang Dewen sighed and said to his junior, ”I’m sorry. I lost my temper a bit back there; I couldn’t control myself.”

His junior shook his head slightly. ”It’s alright, Teacher. You should be mindful of your own health. Getting angry isn’t good for you.”

His words were full of concern for his Teacher. As for why his Teacher was angry, if his Teacher didn’t elaborate, he wouldn’t press.

Lan Changhua, left behind, was dumbfounded, exchanging blank stares with his assistant. What did he mean, ’our discussion is no longer necessary’? What could be so urgent as to make him disregard all courtesy and leave so abruptly?

Lan Changhua pondered for a moment, then took out his mobile phone and called Du Heng.

”Doctor Du, what are you up to at the moment?”

Du Heng, at that moment, was sitting bored and listless on the side of the Ring Road Highway. He had already been waiting there for a full three hours. This was because, merely five minutes after they had left the scenic area and entered the Ring Road Highway, Li Qin’s high-end van had broken down.

”Hello, Professor Lan. I’m just idle right now, nothing much going on.”

”Let me ask you something. Has your competition been canceled?”

Du Heng blinked in confusion. ”No, nobody informed me of anything. Just this afternoon, the Quan City Health Department even notified me to complete the exchange program formalities.”

Hearing Du Heng’s reply, Lan Changhua was also puzzled. If the competition wasn’t canceled, why did Zhang Dewen say it was ’no longer necessary’? Could he really be planning to let his student utterly crush Du Heng? Was he not going to save any face for himself at all?

Not hearing any sound from the other end, Du Heng asked with confusion, ”Is something wrong, Professor Lan?”

”Oh, oh, no, nothing. I was just chatting with Mr. Zhang Dewen, and he suddenly had to leave.” Lan Changhua briefly explained the situation. ”So, let’s leave it at that for now. I’ll try to find out what’s going on from my end. If you hear anything, let me know too.”

”Okay, Professor Lan.”

Du Heng agreed. Hearing the busy tone after hanging up, he casually put his mobile phone down.

Then, looking at Kang Zhirong, who had once again approached the car, Du Heng shouted, ”Xiao Kang, don’t just stand there! Get away from the car!”

Kang Zhirong shouted back, ”I’ll just take another look! Maybe I can fix it!”

”Stop dreaming! Get over here! If you could have fixed it, you would have done so hours ago.”

Du Heng was thoroughly annoyed by Kang Zhirong’s constant need to show off. A computer major trying to fix a car—it was ridiculous.

However, although the car had broken down, it hadn’t dampened everyone’s spirits, especially not the women’s. The van’s quality might not have been great, seeing as it conked out, but its features were indeed impressive. Li Qin had produced stools, a small table, drinks, snacks, and two decks of playing cards from the van, and the women had begun to play happily.

Du Heng looked at the women, already deep in their game, and wondered if they’d completely forgotten the car had broken down.

He couldn’t help but ask again, ”Li Qin, what about that rescue vehicle you called for?”

”Oh, didn’t I tell you? There was an accident at the entrance ramp, so they can’t get on the highway. They told us to wait.”

”It’s been three hours already, and we’re still waiting?”

”If you’re in such a hurry, then go on ahead. We’re not stopping you,” Li Qin retorted, giving Du Heng no face at all as she continued her card game with Wu Shengnan and the others.

Feeling helpless, Du Heng asked, ”Well, what about the tow truck? Can’t the tow truck get here either?”

”Two jokers win! HAHAHA, we’ve reached Ace!” Li Qin laughed, then turned to Du Heng. ”Dude, use your brain, will you? Has the sun addled it? I told you there was an accident and they couldn’t get through. Weren’t you listening?”

Du Heng looked at the women, who had resumed their giggling and playing, and felt a wave of helplessness. The main issue was that these women didn’t want to leave. If it were just him and Kang Zhirong, he would have definitely started walking back with Kang Zhirong by now.

”Xiao Kang, get back here right now! There are too many cars, it’s too danger—” Before he could finish, Du Heng caught sight of a bus swerving wildly out of the corner of his eye, speeding directly towards Li Qin’s van.

At that moment, Du Heng’s heart leaped into his throat. ”Xiao Kang, run! Run!”
