This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Even if something trivial happens thousands of miles away, we can know about it in seconds.

Du Heng is an internet maestro. He himself has millions of fans online. In fact, I just checked, and in these short four days, thanks to the catalyst of this incident, his fan count is on the verge of breaking ten million.”

The junior immediately adopted a serious, earnest expression. ”Guan, think about it. If Du wasn’t involved in this, wouldn’t these extra millions of fans be yours?

Your, Guan Bo’s, reputation would be established.

With millions of fans, I wouldn’t say you’d become famous throughout the Traditional Chinese Medicine Circle, but at least you’d be quite well-known.

Department awards, hospital evaluations, city merit awards, provincial advanced awards, and even participation in the selection of National Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Chinese Medicine Practitioners—won’t you qualify for all of them?”

The rage in Guan Bo’s eyes was once again ignited by his junior. The pent-up frustration in his heart was starkly evident, and his last shred of rationality was teetering precariously.

Guan Bo took a deep breath; his breathing grew much heavier. When he turned to look at his junior, his gaze trembled, tinged with ferocity. He then turned to look behind him, at the closed door of the conference room.

”The Teacher is still in a meeting, and I don’t know how many more days this meeting will last. This matter can’t be resolved in a short time. Let me think about it more.”

A flash of panic and urgency crossed the junior’s eyes. As soon as Guan Bo finished speaking, he eagerly interjected, ”Guan, this matter requires urgency.”

”Why?”

”Think about it. Right now is when the discussion is at its peak, and the incident with the student forum has already spread across the internet.” The junior quickly continued, ”But Guan, think about it, how long can the heat on the internet last?

It’s already the fourth day since this happened, and the third day of intense online discussion. If not for the students’ involvement, this matter might have already started to die down by today.

If you don’t seize this lingering momentum to get involved now, the public’s assessment of you and your Teacher, their view of Du Heng, and the impact on all of you will have already been set in stone.

At that point, forget organizing a ten-person challenge; even if you added a reward of hundreds of thousands or millions, Du Heng might not even acknowledge you. Because nobody knows you, nobody recognizes you, while Du Heng will already be an Internet Celebrity Doctor with ten million fans.

Tell me, why would an already famous doctor accept an invitation from a nobody like you?”

A nobody!

Those words stung Guan Bo’s heart again. ”But...”

”Don’t worry, Guan. I’m here by the Teacher’s side. The Teacher is either in meetings or giving lectures all day; I can manage things here perfectly on my own.”

Seeing Guan Bo still hesitating, the junior prepared to ease his remaining concerns, ”If the Teacher notices you’re gone, I’ll just say you had an urgent family matter to attend to.

The Teacher is so busy, and his stamina isn’t what it used to be. He definitely won’t look too deeply into why you left.”

Guan Bo took several sharp, deep breaths, HUFF, HUFF, HUFF, then asked his final question, ”What if the Teacher discovers this? Will he be upset?”

The junior grew anxious, his voice urgent, ”That’s why this needs to be done quickly! The Teacher is busy with meetings every day; he simply has no time to pay attention to other things. By the time he’s finished, if you then try to arrange things with Du Heng, it will only create more obstacles for you.

If you act on this now, by the time the Teacher realizes what’s happened, you’ll have already accomplished it and restored both your own and the Teacher’s honor.

At that moment, do you think the Teacher would blame a student who helped him save face?”

The junior looked at Guan Bo earnestly. ”Guan, your knowledge, credentials, and background are in no way inferior to Du Heng’s. Why should you let him step on you to climb higher?

Moreover, now is the best opportunity; the timing, conditions, and support are all perfect. If you miss this chance, you might not get such a good opportunity to make a name for yourself again.

Opportunity knocks but once, Guan. You can’t hesitate any longer.”

The junior’s intense eagerness, however, made Guan Bo, who was on the verge of losing his composure, regain a bit of his senses. He looked up at the younger man before him and asked, ”Junior, will this really work?”

The junior thumped his chest emphatically. ”Guan, you have to have confidence in yourself.

Over the past couple of days, I’ve specifically looked into Du Heng’s background. Previously, he was just an undergraduate from a local School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Jinzhou. After graduating, he worked continuously at a Health Clinic. It wasn’t until sometime last year that he suddenly burst onto the scene.

To put it briefly, his schooling was mediocre, and his work environment poor. Forget guidance from a renowned master; he didn’t even have a decent mentor. He’s entirely from a grassroots background.

But you, Guan? You graduated from a prestigious university, work in the best hospital in East Hill—one that’s nationally ranked—and you’re studying under a National Medical Master. It’s no exaggeration to say you come from a distinguished lineage.”

As the junior spoke, his voice was no longer urgent. His pace slowed, but his pitch rose several notches, a faint hint of envy in his tone.

”Guan, traditional Chinese medicine is a field that values inheritance. Even those of us guided by famous masters constantly make missteps. On what grounds can Du Heng, an unorthodox upstart, possibly compare to you?

Besides, he’s merely an undergraduate. How could he possibly overcome your decade of arduous study in Chinese Medicine?

Guan, you must believe in yourself, believe in your Teacher. Among the younger generation, you are the best. Du Heng’s current fame is, firstly, due to luck, and secondly, because he leveraged the internet. That’s how he achieved his undeserved reputation.

Guan, I believe you can drag him down, ensuring his ’Du Demigod’ title becomes nothing more than a laughingstock.”

Guan Bo fell silent, the fire in his eyes gradually fading.

The junior’s heart skipped a beat. Did I say too much? Will this backfire?

But just as he was doubting himself, the silent Guan Bo suddenly spoke, ”Alright, it’s settled then. I’ll leave right now. Help me cover with the Teacher.

Once this is done, I will definitely thank you properly, Junior.”

Overjoyed, the junior immediately said, ”Guan, go ahead without worry. I’ll cover for you with the Teacher. You need to act swiftly; it’s best if everything is settled on your end by the time the Teacher finds out.”

Guan Bo stood up from his chair and handed all the materials he had concerning Zhang Dewen to his junior. ”Junior, I’m counting on you. I’ll leave right now.”

The junior suddenly reached out and grabbed Guan Bo. ”Guan, hold on. I have a few small suggestions that I hope will be helpful to you.”

Guan Bo quickly glanced at his junior. ”Go on, Junior.”

The junior took a deep breath. ”Guan, first, you must act swiftly on this matter. Don’t let this opportunity slip away; we need to maximize our benefits.

Second, you also need to learn from Du Heng: build momentum, create a stir both within and outside our circles. It would be best to also create a short video, just like Du Heng, publicize this event, and leverage his ten million fans to help yourself quickly gain widespread recognition.”

The junior’s constant use of ’our’ deeply moved Guan Bo. Moreover, what the junior said was logical, so Guan Bo nodded repeatedly in agreement.

The junior then continued, ”Third, when you’re looking for volunteers, specifically seek out those with intractable and complex conditions. This will not only utterly humiliate Du Heng but also definitively establish your reputation. It might even be possible for us to secretly include some cases beforehand that we’re already confident in treating, to ensure a foolproof outcome.”

This suggestion made Guan Bo hesitate immediately. ”Isn’t that... a bit improper? Not only is it unfair, but if it’s discovered, my reputation could be ruined.”

”What’s fair or unfair about it? That Du Heng was able to seize on a minor slip-up by you, Guan, and step on our Teacher’s reputation to get ahead—so what if we employ a few tactics as well?

Besides, you’re inviting him to compete in our own hospital. Who could possibly find out?

Surely the people in our hospital aren’t going to help an outsider instead of one of their own?”
