This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

After a brief pause, Du Heng continued, ”Director Gao, today, during discussions with Good Friend Hospital, I secured a training spot in the Gynecological Oncology Department, thanks to Professor Lan Changhua’s connections. Please select a reliable and promising doctor and have her come over as soon as possible.”

Joy instantly lit up Gao Qin’s face. ”Alright, Dean, I’ll talk to someone about it tomorrow morning. Don’t worry, I’ll ensure she signs a training agreement.”

”Okay, handle the details carefully, so we don’t end up doing all the work for someone else’s gain.”

Gao Qin was direct, and Du Heng didn’t mince words. In such matters, it’s best to secure one’s own interests first before being magnanimous.

He then spoke to Deputy Dean Qiao, ”Old Qiao, you can also mention this to Director Mei and put some pressure on them.”

Deputy Dean Qiao laughed. ”I must say, with this kind of leverage, I can definitely ask for more benefits.”

”Go ahead and negotiate boldly. I’m going to Hexie Hospital tomorrow; I’ll see if I can find any opportunities there.”

”Dean, you should go out more,” Secretary Huang interjected cheerfully. ”Just look, you went out for only a day and found such rich resources.”

Gao Qin also smiled and said, ”Secretary Huang is right. Dean, you should spend more time out and about. While your skills and medical expertise are excellent, you can’t treat all the patients by yourself. If you find more opportunities for us to improve our overall medical standards, it will not only alleviate your burden but also help the hospital develop more effectively.”

Director Zheng’s large, greasy face completely filled the camera screen. He was beaming as he said, ”Dean, if it’s too much for you, I’ll send Xiao Kang over. You’re out there handling all these tasks by yourself; you need someone to help share the load.”

Du Heng was tempted but also felt quite embarrassed. Truthfully, today had been both fulfilling and incredibly busy. If Kang Zhirong had been there, he wouldn’t have been so overwhelmed. However, this trip was for personal reasons—traveling and taking wedding photos. Bringing the hospital’s assistant along seemed inappropriate.

Feeling conflicted, he said, ”I have some private affairs during this trip, and bringing Xiao Kang with me would feel like misusing public resources. It’s not appropriate.”

”Misusing public resources?” Lu Guangying’s face suddenly leaned closer. ”Never mind other things! Just for securing that training spot at Good Friend Hospital today, we’d have no problem arranging a car and driver for you.”

Du Heng was startled by Lu Guangying’s sudden close-up. ”Let’s forget it. People will talk.”

”Who would dare to gossip?” Lu Guangying was resolute. ”Never mind a spot at Good Friend Hospital; if you could get us a training spot at the First Affiliated Hospital of JZU, I’d rally the entire hospital to burn incense and worship you! This is settled. Director Zheng, make the arrangements. Xiao Kang will set off to meet you tomorrow morning.”

Things having reached this point, it would seem too affected for Du Heng to refuse. He promptly said, ”Alright, Xiao Kang can come. However, Director Zheng, you should come along too and bring some of our local specialties. I’m going to Hexie Hospital tomorrow, and I’ll take you to meet Professor Zhang, whom I’m scheduled to see. It’ll be a good chance for you to build a connection.”

Hearing this, Director Zheng beamed, his eyes crinkling into narrow slits. ”Excellent, Dean! I’ll start preparing right away. I’ll be on the first flight tomorrow morning and will definitely arrive on time!”

Du Heng’s decision filled the others with envy. To put it bluntly, they weren’t well-known in Jinzhou. Trying to meet some of the renowned experts and leaders from Jinzhou’s Grade 3A hospitals was an almost impossible task for them; they wouldn’t even know where to start or who to approach.

Now that Du Heng was willing to take Director Zheng along, as long as Director Zheng wasn’t a complete fool, this connection and relationship would surely be established. If they maintained this relationship well, the future prospects... why, they could laugh in their sleep just thinking about it!

”Alright everyone, if there’s nothing else, let’s all get some rest.” It was already past ten o’clock, and with their business concluded, Du Heng prepared to end the meeting.

Just then, Secretary Huang suddenly spoke up, ”Dean, I spent the day with Director Li, and there’s something he asked me to get your thoughts on.”

”Go ahead, Secretary Huang. I’m listening,” Du Heng responded.

”It’s like this: today, a Vice Dean named Yu Haiting from Zhonghu Town Health Center approached Director Li. He expressed their interest in participating in this integration. What are your thoughts on how to handle this?”

Du Heng suddenly fell silent. Zhonghu Town Health Center was a sore spot for him, perhaps even a regret. ”What is my Teacher’s opinion?”

Secretary Huang was aware of the history between Du Heng and Zhonghu Town Health Center. Noticing Du Heng’s troubled expression, he also became serious. ”Director Li mentioned afterwards that Zhonghu Town Health Center’s current standard doesn’t meet the requirements for this integration. Forcing them in might cause dissatisfaction among some and create complications for the overall integration effort.”

This issue had been mentioned by Du Heng to Wu Buwei two days ago, but time was running out, and he hadn’t really figured it out yet. He hadn’t found a suitable way to handle it, so he selectively ignored the issue.

But now that Yu Haiting had approached them, Du Heng was unsure how to discuss the matter with him. His feelings about Zhonghu Town Health Center now were as conflicted as his feelings when Yu Haiting had approached Li Jianwei instead of him directly.

Private matters were one thing, but when it came to official business, he truly didn’t know how to broach the subject.

After thinking for a while, he asked, ”Does Secretary Huang have any good suggestions?”

The moment Du Heng spoke, Secretary Huang understood the unspoken message: Du Heng actually wanted to include Zhonghu Town Health Center.

This gave Secretary Huang pause. After a moment of silence, he said, ”I haven’t had much contact with Zhonghu Town Health Center, so I’m not entirely clear on their situation. How about this: tomorrow, I’ll contact Vice Dean Yu, who visited today, and ask about their specific intentions. Then I’ll consider how we might resolve this.”

Du Heng gratefully smiled at Secretary Huang. ”Thank you, Secretary Huang.”

After the meeting, Du Heng lay in bed, seriously pondering the issue of Zhonghu Town Health Center, but he still couldn’t find a viable solution. Ultimately, it boiled down to one reason: Zhonghu Town Health Center’s standards were simply too low. Whether in terms of ’software’—personnel and expertise—or ’hardware’—facilities and equipment—the gap between it and the other participating units was just too vast.

His head throbbed from mulling it over, and eventually, he drifted off to sleep without realizing it. But it was bound to be a restless sleep.

At four in the morning, Wu Shengnan dragged Du Heng out of bed; she wanted to watch the flag-raising ceremony.

Sleep-deprived and groggy, Du Heng’s head ached. He complained, ”Nannan, why didn’t you tell me yesterday we were going to the flag-raising today? If you had, I could’ve gone to bed earlier.”

Wu Shengnan hurriedly dressed herself while saying, ”Tell you? Did you give me a chance? I couldn’t see you during the day, and at night you first ate dinner with the old man, then had a work meeting. When did you give me time to tell you?”

Wu Shengnan suddenly stopped her actions and turned to look at Du Heng resentfully. ”You’ve really changed.”

Du Heng felt his head spin. ”How have I changed now?”

”Last night you called me baby, and just one night later, you’re calling me Nannan again.”

Du Heng was utterly exasperated. Why don’t you just call yourself Madame Niu then?

But he still hurriedly appeased her, ”Baby, baby, forgive me. I just woke up, and my mind is still foggy.”

”That’s more like it.” Wu Shengnan turned back and continued dressing herself.

Du Heng had watched the flag-raising ceremony before. But standing there in the crowd, surrounded by enthusiastic fellow citizens, and watching the flag slowly ascend, he was still deeply moved, his emotions swelling uncontrollably.

Wu Shengnan was extremely excited. After the flag-raising ceremony, she immediately took Du Heng to have breakfast, then insisted on climbing the Great Wall.

However, Du Heng was looking at his phone, where he saw messages indicating Director Zheng and Kang Zhirong were boarding their plane. He suddenly hesitated.
