This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Are National Medical Masters an untouchable taboo? Does that mean their students are off-limits too?”

Seeing Du Xuejing getting annoyed, her three roommates hurriedly came forward to comfort her.

”Tingting, don’t be angry. Your Little Uncle is our Little Uncle too. We’ll definitely support you and support your Little Uncle.”

”Exactly. Everything your Little Uncle does is for the patients. He’s done nothing wrong.”

”Tingting, look, there are people who support your Little Uncle too,” one of the girls said, then read aloud, ”The endeavors of our seniors are worthy of affirmation, and the respect they deserve must be given.

”However, we cannot blindly elevate our seniors to a pedestal, turning them into untouchable, infallible, and unquestionable figures.

”Traditional Chinese medicine is a profession; its essence is to cure illnesses and save lives.

”If a senior makes a mistake, and their juniors notice it but do not intervene, I believe that’s not respecting the senior but insulting them. Furthermore, such behavior tarnishes the reputation of the traditional Chinese medicine profession, and it’s an insult to the medical profession as a whole, amounting to irresponsibility towards patients.

”I believe our seniors, who are constantly forging ahead, wish to see successors who are honest, brave, and unafraid to pursue the truth, rather than sycophantic, docile, and fanatical followers.

”And in my opinion, Doctor Du Heng’s actions are precisely what we, as students of traditional Chinese medicine, should learn from.

”His deeds demonstrate respect for the traditional Chinese medicine industry, an acknowledgment of the medical profession, and moreover, they express a profound reverence for life.

”And up to this point, have any of you seen him act disrespectfully toward the Master? Has he used this matter for publicity?

”Lastly, let me say one more thing: those with pure hearts see nobility and beauty in everything. Those with vile souls perceive ugliness and evil in everyone.”

The girl speaking was very excited. Grasping Du Xuejing’s hand, she said, ”Tingting, look at how highly these classmates rate your Little Uncle! Look, here’s another line: ’Traditional Chinese medicine needs courageous successors, not sycophantic opportunists.’”

”Haha, those are really great words! They can stand on their moral high ground and criticize your Little Uncle, but we can just as easily call them opportunists.”

”Is the National Medical Master all that great? After all, didn’t he also follow the same path of specialization as Western medicine? To me, this approach completely contradicts the holistic emphasis of traditional Chinese medicine and is a misguided path. Only Little Uncle is the true heir to traditional Chinese medicine! If traditional Chinese medicine can’t address the whole person, what’s the point of calling it traditional Chinese medicine?”

”Right! We should post this statement.”

Several students, who had just begun their traditional Chinese medicine studies less than a year ago, were in their dormitory discussing the pros and cons of a Deputy Director of traditional Chinese medicine and a National Medical Master. They were even preparing to publish some of their own opinions.

It was unclear whether this was a stroke of luck or a misfortune for traditional Chinese medicine.

But regardless of luck or misfortune, the annoyed Du Xuejing, rallied by her roommates, joined the discussion, passionately typing out the surging thoughts in her heart on her mobile phone.

They were young, vigorously living their youth, assertively and clearly expressing their opinions, striving to be their most genuine selves.

However, Du Heng was already thirty. He was the Dean of a hospital and was about to get married. He didn’t have the time or energy to engage with the turbulent internet, let alone a student forum.

Even though this forum had become turbulent and rife with debate because of him, he was completely unaware.

At this moment, he had just finished his meeting with Director Li of the First Affiliated Hospital of the Capital and was about to head to Feng Su’s invited engagement.

After this meeting, he would have to pack his bags and prepare to head south to continue his journey.

Feng Su had left the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital right after Du Heng, just a week earlier.

Now, Feng Su looked noticeably slimmer, but the sparkle in her eyes was dazzling, and she appeared extremely energized.

Seeing Feng Su again outside the hospital, Du Heng felt an indescribable mix of emotions.

If one didn’t know, who could tell that the glamorous woman standing before them had been desperately seeking medical help for a tumor just last month?

Who could have known that this woman, while undergoing treatment for her tumor, had accidentally gone viral? During her treatment, she had even hosted two live broadcast product promotion sessions from her hospital room, earning more money than an average person could in their entire lifetime.

Truth be told, Du Heng didn’t have a particularly good impression of Feng Su. Especially after that incident, this feeling had only intensified. If his friendship with Li Qin rated a sixty out of a hundred, then with Feng Su, they were merely acquaintances, perhaps a ten out of a hundred—just the relationship between a doctor and a patient.

But later, Feng Su had actively expressed her apologies.

Using her professional expertise, she had strategized for the promotion of Du Heng’s Short Video Account and had even contacted a professional promotion company for an effective early promotional campaign.

Even now, Feng Su would regularly post updates about Du Heng on her social media account every few days. Whenever his Short Video Account was updated, she would like and share it.

At least one-third of the followers on Du Heng’s Short Video Account had come from Feng Su’s promotion.

So, Du Heng felt he had no choice but to accept today’s invitation.

The place Feng Su had chosen for their meeting was a rather niche and stylish venue.

In Du Heng’s understanding, it wasn’t high-end, but it was very refined. The people who frequented this place all shared a common trait: they were ’poised.’ Their posture had to be poised, their tone of voice had to be poised; even their laughter had to be poised. At first glance, they seemed very cultured, but after a few more looks, one would feel it was all very pretentious—a kind of affectation that made one quite uncomfortable.

Feng Su ordered a cup of coffee for Du Heng. A quick glance revealed the price: 388 yuan.

After taking a sip, he had to admit the 388-yuan coffee was indeed better than the one-yuan instant variety. At least after swallowing, there wasn’t that sour, astringent feeling in his oral cavity.

Du Heng’s eyebrows twitched slightly. It seemed expensive things did have their merits. Putting down his coffee cup, Du Heng smiled and asked, ”Ms. Feng, how did you know I was in the Capital?”

Feng Su elegantly placed her hands in front of her and responded with a gentle smile, ”President Du, you’ve been incredibly popular on the College Student Forum these past two days. It’s even made the local news. Weren’t you aware of this?”

This answer made Du Heng raise an eyebrow slightly; it was an answer he hadn’t expected. ”Oh, Ms. Feng, you’re joking. How could I appear on a college student forum? That doesn’t seem logical.”

Feng Su smiled. ”A friend who knew of our connection sent me a few pictures, and I followed the trail from there.”

Feng Su also expressed a little surprise. ”When I first found news about you, your name was still on a few traditional Chinese medicine forums. By the time I looked again this morning, it had spread to the entire medical school’s forum and even showed signs of spreading further.

By noon, your name had appeared on some local lifestyle accounts in the Capital.”

Du Heng was genuinely a bit surprised. ”Really? I had no idea. What were they saying about me?”

Feng Su replied, ”The topic was ’What is respect.’”

”My God, such a grand topic?” Du Heng’s eyes widened considerably. ”What’s going on here?”

Feng Su laughed. ”You should go and check it out when you have time. One camp is denouncing you, while another is fiercely supporting you. Anyway, it’s very lively. But I see this battle of opinions is about to spill out of student circles and is trending towards spreading into larger ones.”

Du Heng was even more dumbfounded. ”What’s all this about now?”

Feng Su laughed louder. ”Some people are saying that general practice is the true path, while the small focused path is a deviant one, and you, Du Demigod, are the spokesperson for general practice!”

Du Heng blinked. ”What does ’Du Demigod’ mean?”

”You should go and see for yourself. Someone explained the whole story in detail. It’s really interesting.”

Du Heng reached up and touched his nose. He actually knew nothing about all these things Feng Su was mentioning.

He decided he’d check it out himself later.

Then he switched the topic, asking, ”Ms. Feng, have you experienced any discomfort since you were discharged from the hospital?”

Feng Su’s smile also faded slightly. ”I’ve been taking the medicine as you prescribed. Basically, I’ve had no discomfort.”

”What do you mean by ’basically’?”

”Well, it’s just that these past few days, in the evenings, my lower abdomen feels a little bloated, and my lower back is a bit sore. Other than that, there’s no problem.”
