This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Seeing Wu Shengnan about to lie down again, Du Heng held her shoulders to keep her steady. ”I just came back a bit early because I was worried you’d be bored alone. Alright, hurry and get up. Let’s go get something to eat, and then we’ll head out to have some fun.”

Looking at Wu Shengnan, who looked like she was about to fall asleep again, Du Heng felt utterly helpless and speechless. She woke up at four in the morning and didn’t feel sleepy. After watching the flag-raising, she wanted to climb the Great Wall, and she didn’t say she was tired then either. He hadn’t expected her to just be all talk.

After a lot of fuss, by the time they were ready to go out, it was already two in the afternoon. Nevertheless, Wu Shengnan remained highly enthusiastic.

But when they came back from their outing, Wu Shengnan was like a frost-bitten eggplant, completely wilted. As soon as she returned to the Hotel, she flopped onto the bed and didn’t get up.

Du Heng found it amusing but didn’t dare laugh out loud, so he suppressed his laughter and said, ”Don’t just lie there. Get up and freshen up; we’re going for dinner.”

Wu Shengnan buried her entire head under the pillow. ”I’m not going. You go ahead.”

”Oh, come on. Tonight’s dinner is the one you arranged with Tingting. If you don’t go, imagine how sad Tingting will be.”

”I’m too tired. I’m really not going.” Wu Shengnan’s voice was faint and weak. With her head under the pillow, her words came out as a muffled HUM, almost unintelligible if one didn’t listen carefully.

”Then you tell Tingting. I’m tired too and don’t want to move either.”

Wu Shengnan pulled her head out from under the pillow, putting on a pitiful expression. ”I’m too embarrassed to call Tingting. You should call her.”

”I’m not calling. I’d be embarrassed too.”

”But I’m so exhausted. I really didn’t expect climbing the Great Wall to be this tiring.” Wu Shengnan gave up again, flopping flat on the bed.

Du Heng chuckled, HEHE. ”And whose fault is that? Other people climb up, walk a short distance, take a few photos, and that’s it. But you? You insisted on walking the whole way. If I hadn’t practically dragged you to take the cable car, you would have wanted to walk all the way back down. Now you feel the pain, don’t you?”

”AHHH~ My legs don’t feel like my own anymore! I reckon I won’t be able to get up tomorrow.” Wu Shengnan wailed in agony. ”We still have to take wedding photos tomorrow, and go to the Great Wall again! Am I out of my mind?”

”You probably are, and it’s not a mild case.”

Wu Shengnan lay on the bed for a while longer, then sat up, looking utterly dejected. ”Honey, I’m done for.”

”Why would you say that?”

”Look, back in January, I could chase someone for two days and one night straight without feeling tired. I even managed to crawl out of a snowdrift alive.” Wu Shengnan felt so aggrieved she wanted to cry. ”But look at me now! I climbed the Great Wall, and now my legs are aching and sore. Tell me, how can I still be a police officer, let alone a criminal police officer? How can I keep working on the team?”

Du Heng was now beginning to understand Wu Shengnan’s peculiar train of thought. He wasn’t surprised that she could connect mountain climbing with her job.

But seeing her current dejected state, he walked over and sat beside her. ”Don’t feel so down. You were injured, and then you spent time recovering. For the past half a year, you haven’t done anywhere near this much physical activity. Your body naturally can’t handle such a sudden burst of intense activity today.”

Saying this, he put his arm around Wu Shengnan’s shoulders. ”There, there, it’s alright. Once we go back, get married, and have a child, you’ll find it even harder to run around. Besides, haven’t you noticed? Over the past few months, you’ve gained at least ten pounds. You’re all fleshy now, which is great.”

Wu Shengnan, who had been expecting warm words of comfort, was so angered by Du Heng’s subsequent remarks that she shivered and shoved him away.

”Go away! Go far, far away! I don’t want to see you right now!”

”What’s wrong now? I’m just telling the truth.”

”The truth isn’t good enough!” Wu Shengnan shook her head vigorously in irritation. ”Starting tomorrow, I’m going to resume my old training regimen.”

”Are you crazy? Why bother training when things are perfectly fine? Isn’t this good enough?”

Wu Shengnan shot Du Heng a glare. ”I need to build up my endurance, run without getting out of breath, and lose weight!”

”I don’t think that’s necessary.” Du Heng sat up again and pulled Wu Shengnan into his embrace. ”I think your endurance is fine as it is now. Running without panting isn’t realistic, and as for losing weight, I really don’t think you need to. Compared to how you were before—though you weren’t exactly bony then—you’re definitely more charming now that you’re a bit more full-figured.”

Wu Shengnan shot a speechless glance at the earnest-looking Du Heng, then looked down at his hand, which he had placed on her. ”You’re such a rogue.”

With that, she once again smacked Du Heng’s hand away, stood up, and headed for the bathroom. ”I don’t care, I am going to train!”

As she was closing the bathroom door, she suddenly poked her head out and said, ”Hurry up and get changed. I’ll go find Tingting as soon as I’m out.”

「Meanwhile, Du Xuejing was on a bench under a streetlight at the School, feeling conflicted.」

Especially every time she met the eyes of the person across from her, she would feel a flutter of panic.

”Tingting, look! I wasn’t lying, was I? Our School forum is full of pictures of your Little Uncle. It says he confronted a National Medical Master, outshone an Ophthalmology Expert, and some people are even calling him ’Du Demigod’! Did he really come to the Capital?”

Listening to the excited voice from the person opposite her, Du Xuejing gave an awkward grimace, her resentment towards Du Heng welling up inside her.

Honestly, Du Heng! she thought. Zhu Minyan is practically from the same hometown, not to mention you saved her life. Your relationship is quite close, isn’t it? So why wouldn’t you even say hello when you came to the Capital? Even if you didn’t want to greet her, you could have at least come and gone quietly!
