This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Guan Bo left Tang Yinglong’s office with his head down. He never expected that a simple competition would cause so many troubles. Moreover, the development of the incident was completely different from what he and his Junior Brother had imagined.

Feeling extremely annoyed, he didn’t go back to his dormitory but directly to the house he shared with his girlfriend. He remained in a stupor and didn’t wake up until his girlfriend came home for lunch.

However, just during that groggy morning, his Junior Brother’s phone rang again.

”The operation has already begun? All the patients were found from an outside clinic? It seems that Guan’s uncle also wants to save face. I thought they would look for patients directly in this hospital.” The Junior Brother listened to the voice on the phone, a very gentle smile on his face.

The voice on the other end continued, ”I heard that the treatment costs for the volunteers were all waived, and they were each given a nutritional supplement of two thousand yuan. Also, the patients’ information will be transferred this afternoon.”

”Thanks, love. Keep an eye on it for me. But be careful not to get caught when you collect the information.”

”No problem. You should also try to perform well in front of Sir Zhang. This is your chance.”

After hanging up, the Junior Brother returned to his usual calmness, muttering to himself, ”Guan has started preparing. Are you ready, Du Heng?”

Du Heng was not prepared. He had gone with Li Qin and the others to watch the TV drama being filmed that morning. The people filming were quite interesting, but the spectators were a bit bored. Nevertheless, he didn’t stay bored for long and soon busied himself making phone calls.

First were calls from friends and seniors. They all praised Du Heng’s performance the previous day and encouraged him not to back down just because his opponent was a student of a National Medical Master, but to fight him to the end.

After dealing with these people, Du Heng immediately received a call from Zhuo Mingde.

”Xiao Heng, I’m very satisfied with your performance. Don’t feel burdened or worried. We must see this through and stand our ground. Even if you end up losing, you must lose with dignity,” Zhuo Mingde began with uncompromising words, leaving Du Heng taken aback.

He could understand others saying such things, as they didn’t have significant stakes. However, it surprised him that Zhuo Mingde, as a leader, would also say the same. At the same time, he realized that seeking mediation from Lan Changhua was futile. Even if he were willing, the people supporting him would not agree.

”Elder martial uncle, please don’t worry. There’s nothing for me to worry about here.”

”I know your skill level, so I have nothing to worry about. But when you’re on someone else’s turf, they might pull some tricks,” Zhuo Mingde said, his tone changing and his pace slowing. ”Your Teacher didn’t achieve much in his life; as Sir put it, he was just a diagnosing craftsman. As for me, I took a different path and didn’t continue as a doctor. Although Sir didn’t have any significant titles or honors at the end of his life, he was still a well-known figure in Jinzhou. We can’t be scared off by the title of National Medical Master and lose face for Sir.”

Hearing Zhuo Mingde mention Sir, Du Heng knew this was no longer just a dispute among the younger generation. Moreover, Zhuo Mingde’s words made him take this almost childish competition more seriously.

”In recent years, our province’s influence in the Department has been declining. Even for the selection of an honor like National Medical Master, we can’t compete with other provinces. Consequently, there isn’t a single National Medical Master in our province now. We only have two nationally renowned old Chinese doctors. But this doesn’t mean that our province’s traditional Chinese medicine skills are inferior to theirs. Xiao Heng, this time you won’t just be competing against an individual, but possibly a faction, or even an entire hospital. So, we can accept a loss, but if we lose, we must lose with fortitude.”

Du Heng heaved a quiet sigh.

Taking a break and having some fun had inadvertently left him shouldering the responsibility for the reputation of traditional Chinese medicine in the entire province. While he felt excited, he also felt as if he had just been screwed over. What in the world was going on?

Unaware of Du Heng’s thoughts, Zhuo Mingde continued, ”You focus on preparing and take care of your own business. I will contact the local Health Department to deal with other issues and eliminate all your worries.”

”Alright, elder martial uncle. I will give it my all.”

Du Heng sighed helplessly after hanging up the phone. He was reminded of a line from ”Death Deul”: As a person in Jianghu, one cannot always act as one wishes.

At the same time, his anger towards Guan Bo, that idiot, rose to a new height.

If it weren’t for that bastard’s nonsense, he would be happily experiencing filming the TV drama with Wu Shengnan, enjoying a comfortable and leisurely life as a tourist.

Du Heng put down his phone and walked back. Wu Shengnan also ran over happily, her face alight with excitement.

Du Heng composed himself and asked with a smile, ”How does it feel to film a TV drama?”

”It’s very tiring, but it’s very interesting! Even though you know it’s all fake, it still gets you involved. Hmm~~ It feels like you know you have a neurological disorder, but you just can’t control it.”

Wu Shengnan took the water from Du Heng’s side and, GLUG, GLUG, downed two large mouthfuls.

Du Heng couldn’t help but laugh at her words. ”Will you keep filming?”

”Qinqin said there’s another scene this afternoon and one tomorrow morning. After that, it’ll be over.”

Du Heng smirked. ”Li Qin really takes good care of you. I thought it would be one of those cameo roles where you just show your face and that’s it.”

Wu Shengnan shot Du Heng a sideways glance. ”Although I’ve filmed four or five scenes, they probably only add up to five minutes.”

Du Heng’s expression changed immediately. ”Just five minutes, eh? Seeing you film so much, I thought you’d be in a whole episode.”

”Dream on.”

”Just five minutes of scenes, couldn’t they film them all together? Then we could go visit other scenic spots.”

”What are you thinking? The filming schedule revolves around the main actors. Why would they concentrate on filming all the supporting roles’ scenes together?”

”What a hassle.”

As the two bickered, Li Qin and Feng Su, their makeup removed, also walked over. ”Let’s go eat,” Li Qin said. ”We have to shoot again this afternoon.”

Li Qin received excellent treatment. Despite being in the wilderness, her personal assistant cooked for her, so she didn’t have to eat the boxed meals from the large containers.

However, since there were more people today, Feng Su’s assistant also joined in the cooking. But Kang Zhirong, that shameless guy, squeezed himself in among the three girls and cooked with everyone. According to him, he was Du Heng’s assistant and therefore also Wu Shengnan’s assistant. Since Wu Shengnan went to film, it was his duty to cook for everyone.

Only, watching him ”accidentally” bump and collide with the female assistant in half-sleeves made Du Heng feel a malicious urge to kill him. This wretched kid was too disgraceful, what an embarrassment.

Possibly, the malice in Du Heng’s eyes was too intense. During the meal, Kang Zhirong eagerly offered food to Du Heng, but Du Heng refused every time.

After glaring fiercely at Kang Zhirong, Du Heng turned to Li Qin and asked, ”That chubby middle-aged man over there, is he your director?”

Li Qin followed Du Heng’s finger and glanced over. ”Yes, that’s him.”

”What’s the matter with his mouth?”

”I heard it became crooked because he was infuriated by that actress from a few days ago. After the actress left, the director’s mouth seemed a bit crooked.” As she spoke, Li Qin glanced in that direction again. ”But he looks much better today. If you don’t pay close attention, you won’t notice his mouth is crooked.”

”Infuriated, huh?” Du Heng nodded knowingly. ”That’s normal then. This morning, I saw him cursing heaven and earth, non-stop, railing at everyone in sight.”

Li Qin sighed. ”That’s typical of directors. They all have incredibly short fuses. I’ve even seen a director who hit people, slapping them right across the face. That really scared me at the time. So, Director Jia just scolding people, and not saying anything too harsh, is still quite decent.”

”Then you should remind him not to drink alcohol recently and not to get so worked up. It’s easy for him to make himself sick from anger.”

”Alright, I’ll talk to him later. I’m sure he’ll listen to your advice, you being the ten million internet celebrity doctor and all.”
