This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Listening to Du Heng’s narration, Professor Zhang’s pace slowed.

He had invited Du Heng today to do Lan Changhua a favor, and also with the mindset of a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse. After all, Du Heng had cured Cao Binghe’s eye disease, giving his own patient a chance.

However, unlike younger people, he wasn’t interested and had no time to look into Du Heng’s background, so he genuinely hadn’t expected Du Heng to possess so many skills.

He couldn’t help but take another look at Du Heng, especially after hearing the few specializations mentioned.

Tumors, cerebral palsy in children, and strokes—any one of these is a grave condition. If this young man is involved with all of them and isn’t just bragging, then he must have real abilities. Professor Zhang thought.

He immediately asked Du Heng, ”Doctor Du, you seem to have a wide range of medical expertise. However, with so many people consulting you, can you handle it all?”

”I’m not the only one handling the responses,” Du Heng replied. ”All our colleagues in the hospital work on it together. If an inquiry pertains to a specific Department, that Department answers first. If they can’t answer, it’s escalated to the Department Director and Deputy Director. If it still can’t be resolved, then it comes to me.”

”Oh?” Professor Zhang was a bit surprised by this. ”So, Doctor Du, you mean you don’t distinguish between traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine when answering?”

”Essentially, no. Our ultimate goal is to solve the patients’ actual problems. Whether it’s traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine, as long as it can solve the problem, it’s fine.”

”What if a patient specifically requests a traditional Chinese medicine solution? What do you do then?”

”Our hospital doesn’t have many TCM practitioners—only thirteen, including myself. However, all thirteen of us do our utmost to answer patients’ questions. Still, because there are so few of us, replies to online consultation questions are often delayed.”

Professor Zhang nodded in understanding. ”I’ve heard that people doing these online videos have followings—fans, I believe they’re called? I wonder how you’re doing in that regard, Doctor Du?”

”It’s alright. I have over seven million fans.”

”Ah, that’s excellent!”

Du Heng smiled humbly. ”It’s still not enough; I need to continue working hard. The leading expert in medical science popularization right now specializes in dermatology. He has over ten million fans, and he’s actually from your hospital, Professor Zhang.”

Professor Zhang looked quite surprised. ”Is that so? I had no idea.”

Although they walked slowly as they spoke, they soon arrived at the patient’s room.

Professor Zhang smiled at Kang Zhirong. ”Young man, feel free to film. I approve. But there’s one condition: you must discuss it with the patient. If the patient doesn’t consent, then you’ll have to use that mosaic effect you mentioned.”

Kang Zhirong was overjoyed, grinning from ear to ear. ”Thank you, Professor Zhang! Rest assured, I’ll make sure you look very handsome on camera!”

”This kid certainly knows what to say, haha.”

The group straightened their clothes and walked into the patient’s room together.

Du Heng followed Professor Zhang, taking a deep breath.

Professor Zhang’s casual permission to film means I owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Who is Professor Zhang? A renowned ophthalmology expert, a leading figure in the field nationwide. His willingness to appear in my video is essentially him lending his prestige to promote me. Am I moved? I’m so moved I could cry. Honestly, even within the traditional Chinese medicine field, very few seniors are willing to support their juniors like this. So far, I’ve only encountered half such a person—Lan Changhua. Why only half? Because when I visited last time and gave Lan Changhua the prescription, he didn’t introduce me to any other senior practitioners. It was only this time, after I successfully treated Cao Binghe and helped Lan Changhua gain face before Zhang Dewen, that I finally got the chance to be introduced. Still, I’m grateful to Lan Changhua. At least he made the introduction this time.

Having reached the patient’s bedside, Du Heng pushed those thoughts aside and focused on examining the patient’s condition.

However, his examination findings were essentially the same as what Professor Zhang had described.

So, the key now is to find the cause of the patient’s illness from this limited information. The challenge is that Cao Binghe had presented with many distinct symptoms, and his pulse clearly reflected the root cause of his illness. But this patient, aside from seeing things upside down, surprisingly has no other distinctive symptoms. His pulse is merely a string pulse, indicative of liver qi stagnation. However, anyone versed in traditional Chinese medicine knows that if there are no lesions in the eyeballs or brain, an eye problem is almost certainly related to liver qi. But treating this upside-down vision with methods for liver qi uprising hasn’t worked.

Since pulse diagnosis isn’t revealing anything, I’ll have to ask.

”Under what circumstances did you first notice your vision was upside down?” Du Heng inquired.

”It was like this when I woke up from sleep.” The patient kept his eyes closed as he spoke, lying still on the bed. ”At first, I thought I just hadn’t woken up properly, so I closed my eyes and lay there for a bit longer. But when I opened them again, it was still the same. Everything I saw was upside down.”

”Was this after sleeping at night or during a daytime nap?”

”At night.”

”Nothing else unusual happened?” Du Heng felt a growing sense of concern.

The patient sounded disheartened. ”No. I had the air conditioner on, it was a comfortable night, and I slept soundly.”

Du Heng and Professor Zhang exchanged a look; both could see the bafflement in the other’s eyes.

Du Heng resisted the urge to scratch his head again. This isn’t right. A person can’t just develop such a problem out of nowhere.

He drew a couple of sharp breaths, his jaw tight. ”Alright, please lie still. I’m going to perform a physical examination.”

The patient seemed bewildered. My eyes are the problem, why examine my body? Is he kidding?

But as soon as he opened his eyes, he snapped them shut again in less than two seconds.

The nausea was instant. Seeing the world inverted made his stomach churn.

”UGH...” The patient quickly closed his eyes and lay back, breathing deeply to suppress the rising queasiness.

Du Heng’s first step in the physical examination was to check the patient’s liver area.

Vision is related to the liver, and the essence of the liver pours into the eyes. If the liver area truly shows no abnormalities, then I’ll consider other possibilities.

He gently palpated the edge of the liver area. The patient’s expression remained unchanged. Moreover, from the palpation, it felt... remarkably good. This patient had a healthy liver.

Yet, the sensation still felt slightly off, though I can’t quite pinpoint why.

He then proceeded to examine other areas of the patient’s body.

Similarly, he found no major issues.

At this point, Du Heng was completely stumped.

But giving up wasn’t his style. Besides, many heads were now peeking in from the doorway. If I leave in defeat, this trip to the Capital will feel incomplete. Worse, I’d become a laughingstock, and all my previous efforts would be wasted!

”Professor Zhang,” Du Heng said, ”may I see the patient’s medical scans?”

”Certainly, of course. They were taken yesterday and the day before.” As Professor Zhang spoke, he gestured to the patient’s family member, who retrieved a bag from the bedside table.

Du Heng took the bag without ceremony and began examining the scans.

”Hmph, I thought he’d be more impressive, daring to accept Professor Zhang’s invitation. Turns out he’s nothing special,” someone muttered.

”Damn, bro, keep your voice down! It’ll be bad if Professor Zhang hears you.”

”Tch, so what if he hears? Am I wrong? He went through all the motions—Inspection, Auscultation, Inquiry, and Palpation—but it was all useless.”

It was Doctor Yang, who continued with a sneer, ”In the end, he still has to look at the scans. And he, a TCM doctor, thinks he can spot something that experts who’ve been reading scans for decades have missed? What a joke! If he can’t do it, he should just admit defeat and leave. Why stay here and make a fool of himself?”

His companion couldn’t stand it. Seeing Professor Zhang turn his head and look in their direction, he immediately spun around and beat a hasty retreat, wanting nothing more to do with the troublemaker.

This guy is blinded by jealousy, his judgment’s completely clouded. Definitely not someone to associate with.

When his companion quickly retreated, the others also instinctively backed away, putting distance between themselves and Doctor Yang.

They were here for the spectacle, not to embarrass themselves in front of Professor Zhang.
