This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng’s surprise was met with only a laugh from Wu Shengnan.

”You’re skilled at treating patients and saving lives, but when it comes to judging character, I believe I have a slight edge over you,” Wu Shengnan said, turning her head to look at Du Heng. ”I’ve only been with the team for half a year, but the criminals I’ve encountered are types you’ve never even heard of. Even the reasons they committed their crimes are beyond your imagination. During these past few months while recovering from my injuries, I’ve been assigned to clerical work, which involved searching and reviewing a vast amount of archival materials. The incidents documented in them would absolutely overturn your worldview and perception.”

After hearing her out, Du Heng sighed. ”Forget it, let’s not dwell on him. I’ve already agreed, so we’ll just wait for him to propose the challenge.”

Wu Shengnan also shook her head. ”An excessive desire to win, or intense jealousy—these are always precursors to madness. You’re doctors, responsible for the health and lives of your patients. I don’t believe such recklessness is a good thing.”

Du Heng turned to Wu Shengnan. ”So, you’re saying I shouldn’t go? Just pretend this never happened and let him carry on by himself?” He shook his head, looking troubled. ”You saw him just now, filming with his mobile phone. Given his current state of obsession, I’m sure he’ll release the video.”

Wu Shengnan didn’t seem too concerned about Du Heng’s worries. Instead, she gave her boyfriend an odd look. ”You can be so sharp at times, yet so muddled at others.”

”How so?”

”The solution ultimately lies with those who created the problem. Based on your account, the key figures here are Master Zhang and Professor Lan.” Wu Shengnan slowed her pace and said calmly, ”You should inform Professor Lan and let him communicate with Master Zhang. Generally, people in their positions are mindful of their reputations. They will surely intervene to stop or cancel this rather farcical affair. Even if it isn’t canceled in the end, the matter will then become something for the two seniors to handle, and you’ll merely be the one carrying out their decision. That way, you’ll be removed from the eye of the storm.”

Du Heng kept walking, but his expression shifted slightly. ”You’re right. I should ask Professor Lan to help mediate this. This whole spectacle Doctor Guan is creating... regardless of who wins or loses, it will do more harm than good. Furthermore, it offers no benefit whatsoever to the development of traditional Chinese medicine.”

While they were talking, Feng Su hurried over. ”Doctor Du, Nannan, the person picking us up for Qinqin is over there.”

Du Heng looked in the direction of Feng Su’s voice and saw a familiar figure. With Feng Su’s reminder, Du Heng immediately recognized the somewhat familiar figure as Li Qin’s assistant. However, the refined manager was not with the assistant.

”Feng Su, Doctor Du, this way, please. Miss Qin is waiting for you in the car outside; it’s not convenient for her to come in.” The young assistant greeted them cheerfully.

After introductions were made, they all took a car to the hotel Li Qin had arranged for them. By the time they got out of the car at the hotel, the three women were already arm in arm, appearing very close, which left Du Heng feeling somewhat like an outsider to their small group.

The hour-long journey seemed to pass in a flash. After quickly freshening up, they all had a meal together before joining the activities Li Qin had planned. Du Heng saw the three women enjoying themselves and, being the only man, felt a bit out of place. So, using the excuse of having other matters to attend to, he politely declined the invitation for further entertainment and returned to his hotel room alone.

It wasn’t entirely an excuse. Upon returning to the hotel, Du Heng first called Lan Changhua to explain the situation, asking him to act as an intermediary and request Sir Zhang Dewen’s help in mediating the affair. After hanging up, Du Heng had a video call with the hospital to discuss some other matters.

Du Heng had acted quickly, but he had completely underestimated the determination of a madman, as well as the influence of a ten million internet celebrity.

Overnight, the incident at the airport had already become a viral topic online. Although not everyone was aware of it yet, its popularity was steadily increasing. And Guan Bo had indeed achieved his initial goal: the number of followers on all his social media accounts had skyrocketed from a mere few hundred to tens of thousands overnight.

However, looking at the comments flooding in beneath his posts, Guan Bo couldn’t feel any joy whatsoever.

”Challenging someone in public like this—is that something a doctor should be doing?”

”Crazy for fame, huh?”

”Look at that rabid dog! You think you’re worthy of competing with Doctor Du?”

”Using patients as subjects for a contest? Only someone utterly brainless would come up with such a moronic idea!”

”’Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.’ Look at the crazed expression on the face of the guy holding the phone; he’s not far from his downfall.”

”I’m just an onlooker, so I don’t know the whole story. But judging solely by their reactions, the one holding the phone and filming is clearly of a lower caliber.”

”The shame of traditional Chinese medicine!”

”His profile even states he’s a ’student of a National Medical Master’—how shameless! You accuse others of stepping on your teacher’s reputation to get famous, but how is your behavior any different?”

Guan Bo was going insane.

He had never anticipated such a barrage of one-sided attacks and insults in the comments. This drove him to the brink of madness, but it also made him understand the power of having fans.

With such a fan base, Du Heng was already in an invincible position based on public opinion alone. The more of a scene Guan Bo made, the greater Du Heng’s influence became.

That’s the advantage of having a fan base.
