This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Guan Bo was utterly dumbfounded. ”Where did I lose?”

”In magnanimity and demeanor.”

”What’s the use of those? Can they treat diseases or save people?”

Tang Yinglong gave a bitter smile. With that response, this child will only ever be a tradesman who treats diseases. Even calling him a doctor seems like a stretch.

Tang Yinglong exhaled slowly, then said, ”Our task now is to minimize this loss. Alright, tell me your plan. How exactly do you intend to compete with Du Heng?”

Guan Bo perked up when Tang Yinglong finally got to the point. ”Uncle, this is what I’m thinking. I’ll find five patients with different underlying illnesses and group them into pairs with similar or identical conditions. Du Heng and I will start treating them simultaneously, serving as references for each other. The patients’ recovery within a specified time limit will be the basis for judgment.”

As Guan Bo spoke, his face once again radiated confidence. ”Furthermore, I’ll intersperse some complex and difficult cases among these patients to increase the difficulty of the competition.”

Tang Yinglong listened without interrupting. After Guan Bo finished, he calmly asked, ”So, you plan to find patients randomly?”

”Of course. I want to defeat Du Heng using the fairest and most impartial methods.” At this moment, Guan Bo’s confidence soared.

Seeing his confident nephew, Tang Yinglong couldn’t help but smirk.

Had he not investigated Du Heng’s background, he wouldn’t be worried at all by what Guan Bo said. After all, Guan Bo had been groomed to study traditional Chinese medicine from a young age. He had been studying under a master like Zhang Dewen since his postgraduate years, a period of five years now. In the hospital, he was a doctor capable of holding his own, even mentoring new physicians. However, after learning Du Heng’s full history, Tang Yinglong no longer had the same confidence in this genius. As the saying goes, when goods are compared, one is often discarded; when people are compared, one is often driven to despair. This was precisely the situation Guan Bo and Du Heng were in now. Without comparison, they were both rising stars in their local medical fields. But once compared, the disparity was glaringly obvious.

”Is that all you’re going to do? Just randomly find a few patients without any other preparation?”

”Of course.”

”You want the hospital to be the venue for your competition, but have you ever considered whether the hospital leaders would agree to this idea?”

”That’s why I came to you, Uncle.”

Tang Yinglong sighed, then continued, ”Du Heng doesn’t have a license to practice medicine in East Hill. Have you thought about how to solve this problem?”

Guan Bo’s confident gaze faltered. ”This...”

”If you can’t resolve this basic issue, all your preparations are futile because Du Heng won’t even come to compete.”

”But he agreed.”

”Yes, he did agree, but who can say what might happen due to unforeseen circumstances?” Tang Yinglong shook his head, then continued, ”If the competition can’t be held in East Hill and everyone is in a bind, what would you do? If he turns things around, extends an official invitation for you to go to Jinzhou for an ’exchange,’ and helps you resolve the licensing issue there, would you go or not?”

Of course, I can’t go. I’ve considered this issue.

Without pausing, Tang Yinglong continued, ”Have you ever thought that because of a simple medical licensing issue, he could turn the tables and seize the initiative? Furthermore, by extending an official invitation, his approach would be on a higher level than your private challenge. At that point, regardless of whether you accept or not, you’d be dragged down and made to look inferior once more, and in the end, you’d still lose.”

Guan Bo was completely stunned, staring blankly at Tang Yinglong.

He had only focused on the competition itself, forgetting that he and Du Heng weren’t even in the same city, let alone the same province. Even if Du Heng were to prescribe treatments as he did in the Capital—merely giving verbal instructions while others bore the responsibility—would Du Heng be willing to operate that way here? In the Capital, Lan Changhua and Cao Binghe had taken on that role. A foundation of trust existed between them. Furthermore, Lan Changhua’s reputation had persuaded other doctors in the Capital to trust Du Heng, making it feasible to find someone to cover for him. But what about in East Hill? Everyone was currently at odds. Would Du Heng dare find someone to take the fall from within the enemy’s stronghold? If whoever agreed to take responsibility then reneged, denying their role and refusing to accept blame, Du Heng would face the repercussions of practicing medicine outside his registered area. And since that registered area was out of province, the consequences would be dire.

Looking at his stunned nephew, Tang Yinglong shook his head in resignation and said, ”Alright, let me handle this. Just remember one thing: since we’ve already lost on the moral high ground, we have to win on the professional front. Not only must we win, but we must win decisively, crushingly so. At that time, you can show Du Heng some magnanimity to turn public opinion in your favor.”

Upon hearing Tang Yinglong’s words, Guan Bo was still a bit unconvinced, grumbling, ”I’m not a celebrity. Why bother about public opinion?”

”Public opinion can kill you, do you understand that?” Tang Yinglong’s eyes narrowed slightly. ”When public opinion reaches a certain level, can you still survive in the hospital?

”How would leaders at all levels view you? Will you still have room for growth?

”When public opinion spreads from the internet to the general public, and when every patient who comes to see a doctor knows you’re deficient in both character and medical skill, do you think any patients will still come to you for treatment?

”What will you do when you have no patients?”

Looking at his dazed nephew, Tang Yinglong waved a hand and said slowly, ”You go and rest now. Don’t get involved in the online matters. Don’t even look at them. I’ll handle everything. Just wait for my news.”
