This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”You are a disgrace to traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, an obstacle to the development of traditional Chinese medicine, and the greatest slanderer of traditional Chinese medicine!”

Guan Bo stood entirely on the moral high ground, having forgotten the embarrassment Du Heng had just caused him. He wanted to put Du Heng on trial. ”Eating the bounty of your ancestors yet smashing their pots, what face do you have to appear here? How dare you show yourself before us?”

Du Heng felt numb, utterly numb.

He hadn’t even reacted yet and he was already being thoroughly berated, leaving his mind completely muddled.

I haven’t done anything, so why has this man gone mad? Is it excessive pride, or is there something psychologically wrong with him?

Zhang Dewen’s face was very dark, so dark that his age spots seemed on the verge of appearing. He hissed softly, ”Shut up.”

Guan Bo stiffened his neck. ”What I’m saying is the truth! He has millions of followers online, promoting cures for terminal illnesses. If he’s not a scammer, what is he?”

Millions of followers? Lan Changhua glanced at Du Heng with surprise but quickly turned to Guan Bo and said with a kind smile, ”Doctor Guan, you may have misunderstood.”

”Misunderstood? What misunderstanding? Everything he’s done is all over the internet! Go on, search for it. See if I’m talking nonsense.”

Seeing Guan Bo’s passionate agitation, Lan Changhua chuckled softly. ”I’m not too clear on the other matters, but I am quite clear about this cancer treatment.” As he spoke, he looked at Zhang Dewen and the other two and smiled. ”I personally witnessed Doctor Du treat three tumor patients, one of whom had a malignant tumor, and another had malignant ovarian cancer. By the way, the prescription I’m currently using for my research project on tumors is Doctor Du’s prescription. So, Doctor Guan, since you claim Doctor Du’s tumor treatments are mere attention-seeking, you should apologize to him.”

”I...”

Before Guan Bo could finish, the young doctor from the Chinese Medicine Department suddenly stepped forward and said, ”Doctor Guan, I also know about that case of cerebral palsy in children you mentioned.”

Guan Bo’s spirits lifted abruptly. ”You know about it too, right? Tell me, isn’t he exaggerating and talking nonsense?”

The young doctor smiled. ”I know about it because I’m a fan of Doctor Du. I’ve watched all of Doctor Du’s updated videos. Every video, and every patient in those videos, presents a continuous and coherent record. If Doctor Guan had watched them carefully, you would definitely know that Doctor Du is not speaking recklessly or making exaggerated claims. Especially if you look at the comments, people don’t seem to be malicious towards Doctor Du; instead, most of them are asking questions about the treatments.”

”You... you...”

The young doctor continued to smile faintly. ”As for the Folk Chinese Medicine Practitioners you mentioned, I support you standing up for them. However, I hope that the next time you criticize someone, you understand the situation first before making a judgment. Doctor Du was clearly exposing a charlatan who was using the guise of a Divine Doctor to scam people. When did he ever try to discredit a legitimate Folk Chinese Medicine Practitioner? Moreover, Doctor Du was concerned that colleagues like yourself, Doctor Guan, might not understand the true situation, so he specifically issued a statement to explain the matter. But looking at your current demeanor, Doctor Guan, it seems you haven’t read that statement. By the way, the TV station also clarified this matter later. I imagine you haven’t seen that either.”

After speaking, he smiled at Guan Bo again. ”Allow me to add one more thing: Doctor Du is now a Deputy Chief Chinese Medicine Doctor, the Dean of Jinzhou Maternity and Child Care Hospital, and a Section Chief-level cadre. He is also a recipient of the Second and Third Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress in his province. The words he speaks are responsible; he doesn’t just spout nonsense.”

With that, he consciously stepped back.

Lan Changhua was deeply gratified.

Look, this was one of his own people—gentle, polite, neither servile nor overbearing, calm and unhurried. Then look at Guan Bo. Tsk tsk, Master Zhang Dewen was a hero in his time, but this last disciple of his... it seemed he wouldn’t be able to guard the gate well.

Lan Changhua originally held Zhang Dewen in high regard. However, Zhang Dewen sending his student today to use Lan’s own student for practice had rubbed him the wrong way. What was this about? He had invited them all this way—was it just so Zhang Dewen’s disciple could use his student as a whetstone? And if Zhang Dewen’s side had actually managed to best his student, he would still have had to put on a smile and see them off courteously, just as he had invited them. But now, with Guan Bo making such a scene, they had lost face completely. Still, these thoughts were amusing to entertain; otherwise, it would be genuinely difficult for everyone to save face.

He then deliberately put on a stern face and said to the young doctor who had already stepped back, ”Unruly! Who allowed you to come out?”

Then he turned to Zhang Dewen and smiled. ”The young man is unruly, Mr. Zhang. Please don’t mind him.”

Heh heh. Returning Zhang Dewen’s words once again felt great.

Zhang Dewen shot Guan Bo a look of profound disappointment, displeased by his flustered appearance. However, he couldn’t very well discipline his own student in front of outsiders. He could only turn to Du Heng and say, ”Doctor Du, I apologize. My student was reckless.”

Du Heng, having been successively bailed out by Lan Changhua and the young doctor, had finally gotten his bearings. Hearing Zhang Dewen’s words and looking at Guan Bo, whose face was red and neck veins were bulging, Du Heng chuckled softly. ”It’s alright. It’s normal for young people to be impulsive. They will grow and mature eventually.”

The words were calm, but they carried a sting.

But since Guan Bo had pointed right at Du Heng’s nose and berated him, what was wrong with Du Heng’s words carrying a little sting?
