This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Come on, come in and listen to Doctor Du’s arrangements,” Professor Zhang said impatiently.

Doctor Yang had no choice but to hesitantly walk in.

However, the onlookers at the door couldn’t help but chuckle.

Just a moment ago, that rascal was over there, running his mouth, and the next thing you know, he was called in.

Now, with the overlord watching, there was nowhere for him to run.

Du Heng was unaware of this. He simply followed his own plan and had Doctor Yang unbutton his clothes.

To ensure a more accurate examination and to confirm his own ideas, Du Heng moved the patient to the side and asked Doctor Yang and the patient to lie down next to each other.

Doctor Yang wanted to resist, but seeing Professor Zhang’s stern face, he chose to keep quiet and obediently let Du Heng proceed with the examination.

When Du Heng’s hand pressed on his abdomen, Doctor Yang’s whole body immediately tensed up.

One press, two presses...

Above, below...

Just as goosebumps prickled his skin, Du Heng suddenly withdrew his hand.

Du Heng then let out a long breath and said cheerfully, ”Professor Zhang, I’ve found the reason.”

”Really?” Professor Zhang asked, his face full of shock. ”What is the reason?”

”Liver lobe inversion,” Du Heng stated with utmost certainty, slowly articulating the words.

Dammit, such a seemingly simple problem nearly tripped me up today.

Professor Zhang suddenly looked stunned. ”Liver lobe inversion?”

”Yes.” Du Heng stepped aside. ”Professor Zhang, come and feel for yourself. There’s a clear difference in the position of the liver lobes between the two of them.”

”Let me try.” Professor Zhang immediately became interested.

Doctor Yang, who had been about to get up, obediently lay back down again, bracing for the overlord’s examination.

One press, two presses...

Above, below...

”Hmm~~~ There really is a small difference.”

Du Heng didn’t talk to Professor Zhang but instead directly asked the patient, ”Did you sustain any injuries before your vision problems began?”

Professor Zhang had withdrawn his hand by now, but he was still mentally comparing the subtle differences between the two liver areas.

The patient reached out to press his own abdomen, then winced in pain again. ”No, I’ve never been injured. I’ve always been fine.”

”Think carefully. What happened before you went to bed?”

The patient’s eyes were tightly closed, but his eyeballs darted rapidly beneath his eyelids.

”Nothing really. I just went to work, came home for dinner, and after dinner, I went to the community center to play table tennis... Oh, right! While playing table tennis, I smashed a ball. I used too much force and twisted my body. But I didn’t feel any problem at the time, aside from a slight strain in that instant. I was fine after that.”

Du Heng sighed softly again. Every illness has a cause; it’s just a matter of finding it.

”You might have felt fine then, but that strain you mentioned could have been when the problem started.”

Professor Zhang suddenly said, ”Doctor Du, let’s not discuss why the patient is in this state. Let’s focus on why he is seeing things upside down.”

Finding the root cause and then deducing the outcome was quite simple for Du Heng. ”In traditional Chinese medicine, we say that Vision is related to the liver, and the essence of the liver pours into the eyes. Therefore, if the liver is skewed, vision is skewed; if the liver is upright, vision is upright; if the liver is straight, vision is straight; if the liver is curved, vision is distorted; if the liver is askew, vision is askew. So, this patient seeing things upside down means his liver lobes are inverted and not properly aligned.”

Saying this, Du Heng suddenly shook his head and sighed. ”These are basic medical principles; I should have thought of it much earlier. Normally, when the liver lobes are inverted, the patient would be in excruciating pain. But as you’ve seen, this patient felt nothing himself, and he had no reaction during the initial palpation. That’s why I didn’t even consider this possibility.”

Professor Zhang also looked chagrined. ”Previously, someone suggested I perform a color doppler ultrasound imaging or a CT scan on the patient, but I hesitated and didn’t. After all, our medical philosophies differ, and I didn’t see a basis for an abdominal color doppler ultrasound. Ai, if I had listened to that old colleague then, we probably would have discovered this much sooner.”

Du Heng shook his head. ”That’s not necessarily true. With inverted liver lobes, the change in position isn’t actually that significant. Even with a color doppler ultrasound or CT, it’s not easy to spot directly without prior suspicion. I only made the judgment because I was already suspicious, the patient cried out in pain, and I was performing a comparative examination.”

Du Heng was giving Professor Zhang a way to save face. Otherwise, with so many doctors, nurses, and the patient present, it would greatly tarnish the expert’s distinguished image.

Besides, Professor Zhang had previously agreed to appear in his video, so Du Heng felt he should return the favor.

Professor Zhang suddenly chuckled. ”Forget it. A mistake is a mistake; there’s no need to cover it up. For now, let’s first confirm whether it truly is liver lobe inversion.”

With that, he turned to Doctor Yang on the sick bed. ”What are you still lying there for? Get up, quickly!”

Doctor Yang, who had been lost in thought on the sick bed, scrambled up, straightened his clothes, and stood beside Professor Zhang. Professor Zhang then instructed him, ”Take the patient for color doppler ultrasound imaging. Focus specifically on the liver area. Go quickly.”

Doctor Yang glanced at Du Heng, then, without a word, released the brakes on the sick bed and wheeled the patient out.

When Doctor Yang got outside the door, two colleagues came over to help, one on each side, pushing the sick bed.

”Hey, Old Yang, Du Demigod actually showed up, not scared off like you thought he’d be!”

”Heh heh, not only did he come, he even found the root of the problem! Old Yang, your prediction was way off.”

Doctor Yang’s face remained dark as he pushed the sick bed with his head down. Even when the patient on the bed opened his eyes to look at him, Doctor Yang maintained his grim expression and said nothing, pushing the bed all the way into the color doppler ultrasound room.

Once there were no other patients around, Doctor Yang suddenly remarked, ”You saw it yourselves. He just got lucky, like a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse. He found the cause purely by accident.”

The two colleagues beside him chuckled. One said, ”Even if it was an accident, he *did* find it. None of the other so-called experts managed to stumble upon it, did they?”

The other one said, ”Old Yang, I’m starting to think this ’Du Demigod’ title is about to become a reality.”

Doctor Yang’s face turned even darker. ”Nonsense!”

The second colleague shook his head. ”Listen to my analysis. See if it doesn’t make more sense than yours.”

”Go on.”

”Yesterday, this Doctor Du used the case involving National Medical Master Zhang Dewen to shoot to fame overnight in the Capital Medical Field, indirectly overshadowing all the experts who had treated Dr. Cao. Today, as you saw, our own Professor Zhang willingly acted as a stepping stone for this Doctor Du. You saw them filming that short video, didn’t you? Once Doctor Du cures this patient today, and that video is released tomorrow—after two gurus from both traditional Chinese and Western medicine have served as his stepping stones—don’t you think this Doctor Du will truly earn the title of ’Demigod’?”

****!

Doctor Yang was dumbfounded.

The first colleague chuckled. ”If Du Demigod really earns that title, shouldn’t he be thanking you, Old Yang?”

Doctor Yang’s face was so grim it looked like it could drip water, but he stubbornly retorted, ”Hmph, it’s not even certain if it’s liver lobe inversion. And even if it is, there’s still the final hurdle. If it really is liver lobe inversion, he’ll need surgery. That’s a matter for the Hepatobiliary Department; it has nothing to do with that fellow Du.”

”I hope it goes as you wish.”

”Blessings to you, Demigod-maker.”

「Fifteen minutes later.」

The patient was wheeled out. Looking at the assessment on the color doppler ultrasound report, the three of them fell silent.

One of them wore a slight smile, while another’s expression was grim.

Harmony Hospital was a top-tier institution, and its Ophthalmology Department certainly wasn’t short on funds. Therefore, they didn’t need to go to a separate Inspection Department for a color doppler ultrasound; they could perform it right in their own section.

So, Du Heng and Professor Zhang hadn’t left, but chatted in the hospital room while waiting for the patient to return.

During their conversation, Professor Zhang also took the opportunity to learn in detail from Du Heng about his recent activities and accomplishments.

For Du Heng, although it felt a bit like self-praise, he still told Professor Zhang what he had been doing and what he had achieved.
