The Empress Wants a Divorce Every Day

Chapter 120: Chapter 119: Surrendering the Regency in the Hall

Rong Ling stopped to catch a few breaths after speaking, and when his breathing eased, he spoke again.

”During my time as the Dayan Regent King, I have worked diligently to govern well, worthy of the late Emperor and the people of the kingdom, yet I did not expect that someone would hate me so much, to the extent of attempting to assassinate me, seeking to eliminate this Prince. I believe I have not committed any heinous acts, and I truly do not know who could harbor such hatred against me, resorting to such malicious means to remove me.”

”Whoever’s path have I obstructed, that they would strike at me so viciously?”

As Rong Ling spoke these final words, the hall fell into a deathly silence. Some courtiers even began to shed tears, and many turned their heads towards the Little Emperor.

The Little Emperor felt as though cold water had been poured over his head, chilling him to the bone. Uncle would say such things in the hall, suggesting that he had blocked someone’s path, which is why he was treated this way.

With these words, anyone with a mind would think of the Little Emperor.

People would certainly believe he was ungrateful unless even if he took charge, a stigma would remain on him.

The more the Little Emperor thought, the paler his face became, and he did not know where to place his hands and feet, completely at a loss as to how to resolve the situation before him.

In the center of the hall, Rong Ling’s body weakened, and he fell limply towards a nearby subordinate.

Nan Feng quickly supported him. In the hall, among the loyal followers cultivated by Rong Ling, one couldn’t help but speak out, ”Prince, you must take care of your health.”

With one voice, more joined in, ”Prince, you are the pillar of our Dayan, we cannot do without you.”

”Prince, please rest and recover well, we are waiting for you to return to lead us in serving the court.”

Cries of sorrow filled the lower part of the hall. The Little Emperor watched this unfold, his legs weakened, his body limp, completely bewildered.

Yet Rong Ling raised a weak hand and waved, ”Alright, you all have seen it. My body is so frail already, whether I can endure this is uncertain. Today I am here to declare something in the hall.”

”From now on, all the regency authority in my hands will be transferred to Your Majesty. Starting today, Your Majesty will personally take charge of the court affairs. Everyone, assist His Majesty well in governing our Dayan Kingdom.”

As Rong Ling finished speaking, his face grew even paler, cold sweat dripped like rain down his face. He gasped heavily and turned to look behind at the frozen Little Emperor, smiling.

”Good nephew, today I am handing over Dayan to you in its entirety. I hope you can elevate Dayan to greater heights in the future.”

The Little Emperor listened to Rong Ling’s words but felt there was a thick layer of sarcasm within them.

But before he could say a word, the man in front of him suddenly vomited blood, collapsing onto the subordinate by his side.

The Little Emperor watched Rong Ling slumped weakly in the arms of his subordinate, his face as pale as paper, breathing faint, almost indistinguishable from the dead unless one looked closely.

In the hall behind, a courtier cried out in grief, ”Prince.”

”My poor Prince.”

The Little Emperor looked at Rong Ling, then down at the Dragon Robe stained with Rong Ling’s blood, feeling as if he were plunged into an icy abyss. At this moment, he didn’t know what to do, only staring blankly at Rong Ling.

He could not tell if he was happy, sad, or something else.

Beside Rong Ling, Feng Qing had already stepped forward and supported him, as she swiftly thrust a silver needle into the acupoints on Rong Ling’s body.
