Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

To the south, about a few hundred kilometers from where Wen Yu landed.

This was the only human settlement in this region.

From a distance, Wen Yu could see the towering city walls and the massive heavy artillery on them.

The style of the city wall was somewhat rugged, seemingly built from giant stones and earth, then reinforced with the skills of professionists—in short, very crude...

In this remote place forgotten by the Human Race, Wen Yu naturally wouldn’t have high expectations for this small settlement.

Activating the invisibility effect of the Heaven-covering Robe, Wen Yu transformed into a Black Light, directly passing over the city walls and entering the settlement.

...

Decay,

Despair,

Chaos,

were the only impressions this small settlement left on Wen Yu.

On both sides of the uneven dirt road, there were tents set up without any plan, and junk was piled everywhere, with occasional heaps of dirty and smelly trash to be seen.

People occasionally walked down the streets, some in a hurry, others sluggishly, but every face betrayed an expression of either ferocity or daze, a sense of hopelessness brewing and fermenting in these people.

Trapped and surrounded by mutant beasts and Demon Groups, the people here had no way out, no dreams, no pursuits; they lived merely for the sake of living, for survival.

This was the norm for ordinary humans in the apocalypse, yet there was no worse way to live.

Wen Yu was not a savior, nor a hero who would draw his sword to help upon witnessing injustice. Seeing the situation of the survivors in this settlement, Wen Yu merely felt a pang of sympathy, then went on towards the center of the settlement—as there were many such settlements in the apocalypse, which Wen Yu neither could nor wanted to manage.

They had their ways of living, and Wen Yu had his own goals, which were unrelated to each other, and that was just fine...

...

A settlement that could accommodate a hundred thousand people was neither big nor small, yet, as Wen Yu had just observed, this settlement was indeed very dilapidated.

Even though Wen Yu had walked over ten kilometers and was nearing the center of the settlement, all he saw around him were still low wooden houses and piles of garbage and debris.

By this time, Wen Yu was somewhat weary—experiencing another country’s different atmosphere sounded enchanting, but when that country had nothing to offer, it easily left a person feeling dispirited, asking themselves why they had come here.

His Perception Ability spread rapidly, sending a mighty force permeating every corner of the settlement.

Searching,

then locking on.

Wen Yu’s body gradually faded until it disappeared.

...

”Wah... Wah...”

”The baby’s born, boss, it’s a boy!”

Chaotic voices arose, mingling cries of men and women with the newborn baby’s cries, adding a touch of vitality to the shabby courtyard.

In the courtyard’s center, a tall and hefty black man over two meters in height heard his subordinate’s report and couldn’t help but let out a breath, the tension on his face significantly easing.

”How is Ma Ka?”

The strong man asked.

”Mother and child are safe, mother and child are safe!”

His shorter subordinate replied with a smile, his face beaming like a blooming chrysanthemum.

Upon hearing this, the strong man couldn’t contain himself any longer and hurriedly rushed into the room.

Inside the room, several rough women were frantically tidying up the postnatal cloths, medical tools, and other items. The strong man pushed past the women and immediately saw his wife lying on the bed and the little Black Elf still connected by the umbilical cord next to her...

”Well done, Ma Ka.”

The gentle words came from the strong man, whose voice was soft and tender, creating an appealing contrast with his bear-like physique.

Ma Ka merely shook her head, barely raising herself to look at the crying baby by her side.

”Ray, our child...”

”I see him.”

Ray gently stroked his wife’s hair and then, ever so cautiously, picked up the small life beside him.

”Friday... this is your Mom.”

Ray pointed to Ma Ka.

”This is Dad.”

He then pointed to himself.

Friday—that was the name of this new life.

...

The New Hope Assembly Site, this unremarkable small settlement in Africa, welcomed a momentous event today.

The Guardian of this city, and its most powerful leader—Ray! He had just had his first son!

Despite the settlement’s decay and despair, the people living here saw no hope; yet, these circumstances weren’t Ray’s fault. In fact, it was precisely due to Ray’s presence that the humans in this settlement could survive on this bloodstained and dark land.

On this day, Ray pushed aside all trivial matters to devote himself wholeheartedly to accompanying his wife and child—life was great, especially a new life born during the apocalypse.

Ma Ka had conceived the child just days before the apocalypse, and when it arrived, Ray had given his all to protect his wife and child amidst the turmoil, but the hardships could not be summarized in just a few sentences.

Only when Ma Ka fell asleep, assured that her health was sound, did Ray dismiss the staff in the birthing room, carrying Friday as he paced around.

The tiny human being slept silently in his father’s arms, and despite the baby’s wrinkled and unattractive face, Ray felt an immense sense of happiness.

This was what it meant to become a father for the first time...

Was this what happiness is?

No...

”This is hope!”

A voice suddenly rang out beside his ear—a voice unknown, without any perceivable presence, instantly causing Ray’s body to freeze.

”This is hope!”

The voice repeated.

Ray stiffly turned his head and immediately spotted the black figure sitting on a chair beside him.

An Asian face, in a clean black coat, exuded an indescribable aura of mystery. The black orb floating on his shoulder filled Ray’s heart with a sinking feeling.

”Sequence Number 2...”

As a leader of a settlement, Ray naturally knew the name Sequence Number 2, having also seen images of him, and with the small Soul Beast conspicuously on Wen Yu’s shoulder...

Wen Yu was now very recognizable, fortunately he had no need to hide his identity. Nor did he need to resort to ostentatious tactics like playing the pig to eat the tiger, or behaving in an unnecessarily low-key manner.

Relying on his current power, many matters in Wen Yu’s eyes no longer required discreet methods.

Whatever he wanted to do, he could just say it directly; very few were blind enough to dare disrespect Wen Yu!

”May I have a look? It’s a boy, right? He’s very cute!”

Wen Yu smiled, reaching out his hand while glancing at the swaddled child.

Ray hesitated for a moment, then resolutely shook his head.

”I’m sorry, sir, though I don’t know what mistake I’ve made, the child is innocent.”

He said, stepping back lightly, as his muscles bulged, transforming him into a beast guarding its cub, ready to unleash the fiercest counterattack on an enemy...

A counterattack devoid of hope...

”I see...”

Wen Yu’s smile remained unchanged, just shaking his head: ”Forget it, let me clarify—I bear no malice. I’ve come to you simply to ask for a favor.”
