Chapter 575: Chapter 574 The Sins and Darkness of the Healing Church

After Fang Zheng had completely killed Ludwig, he approached the greatsword. At this moment, Big Chin was running around, seemingly exploring something.

Fang Zheng didn’t mind this; he had gotten used to Big Chin’s behavior. On the contrary, he felt a particular sensation about the sword before him.

”This feeling... really strange...”

Looking at the sword, Fang Zheng furrowed his brows. He could be sure that he had seen this kind of radiance somewhere before—a clear, bright, aqua-green light, just like...

At that thought, Fang Zheng reached out and grasped the greatsword.

The next moment, an image emerged in his mind—an endless corridor under the cover of dark night, aqua-green moonlight streaming through the windows, casting light on the floor. And in that corridor, a slender figure stood quietly, holding a golden scepter.

He wore a golden sun mask, his face unseen, but it seemed as if he could hear a voice echoing.

Fang Zheng opened his eyes.

Just then, he felt a power different from the one he had felt when he killed the Horse-face Monster enter his body through the greatsword. If the power from the Horse-face Monster had been hot and warm, this power was cool like spring water.

”Phew...”

Fang Zheng exhaled. He could feel that after this power entered his body, he seemed to have some indistinguishable connection with this world. At least, Fang Zheng was certain that the power shaping this dream was the same as the power inside his body.

At that moment, as the power entered Fang Zheng’s body, the previously radiant greatsword started losing its sheen, quickly turning into something resembling black iron, showing no further reaction. The shining spots that were there before had also vanished, as if they had never appeared.

Continue moving forward.

Fang Zheng looked up and noticed that Big Chin was nowhere to be seen, so he shook his head and continued walking along the path.

As he ascended the stairs, Fang Zheng found himself in a place that looked like a dungeon. It was filled with cobwebs and dust, appearing as if it hadn’t been visited in a long time... but that wasn’t the case.

”Darkness above, but steadfast steps. Bloodstained, yet clear in will...”

A voice echoed in the dungeon corridor, sounding as if someone were praying. Fang Zheng raised an eyebrow and walked towards the source of the sound. When he reached a tightly closed cell door at the end of the corridor, he saw a person through the iron window of the cell door, murmuring to themselves as they faced the wall.

”Monsters are a curse, and a curse is a shackle; only you are the true blade of the Church...”

The person seemed completely unaware of Fang Zheng’s presence. Even though Fang Zheng tried knocking on the door and talking to him, he continued to mutter to the wall... Alright, this one must be insane.

After realizing that communication was fruitless, Fang Zheng continued up the stairs. Without much effort, he left the dungeon and then... came to a church.

”This is...”

Looking at the scene before him, Fang Zheng paused. The church in front of him looked almost identical to the one he had seen in ”another Anan” where he had encountered the Archbishop, the only difference being that this church held six beds with several corpses lying on them, seeming to serve as an emergency treatment center; unfortunately, their treatment had obviously failed.

However, what was most striking was the sculpture at the end of the church.

There wasn’t a strange deity sculpture, but three people wearing robes, gathered around an altar. The person on the left held a book in both hands, the one on the right gripped a bell, and the one in the middle raised both hands, as if about to do something. Lying on the altar surrounded by the three statues was a mummy statue.

Could this be telling the history of the Healing Church?

Looking at the mummy statue before him, Fang Zheng pondered. The biggest question about the Healing Church was how they obtained the blood for Blood Healing, as blood is clearly limited. Although William said they extracted blood from an Old God found in the ruins, Fang Zheng found this implausible. The reason was simple: from what he had observed previously, the mutations in those who had undergone Blood Healing clearly differed by ”class.” For example, ordinary villagers, even when mutated, at most became madmen and werewolves, and even those werewolves were small.

Just like the werewolves Fang Zheng had encountered when he arrived in this world—they were not only about the same size as humans, but their aggression was also very weak; even when Fang Zheng walked past, they would tremble and step back.

But in ”the original Anan” world, those werewolves were enormous, and their aggressiveness was also greater. The monsters Fang Zheng encountered were typically more powerful the higher their original human’s position, like the Archbishop who was a prime example...

Logically, Fang Zheng didn’t think the Healing Church would ”treat everyone equally” by injecting the Blood of the Ancient God into everyone. Set aside whether the amount of blood needed by so many people would drain the Old God, if a villager unrelated to the Healing Church accidentally awakened due to the Blood of the Ancient God, wouldn’t all the Church’s years of efforts be like making a wedding dress for someone else?

By logical deduction, it was clear that the higher the person’s position, the ”purer” the blood injected. So, where did the blood used for Blood Healing by the Healing Church come from?

”Ah, over here!”

Just then, suddenly a voice echoed, interrupting Fang Zheng’s thoughts. Fang Zheng turned his head, only to see Big Chin, who had disappeared earlier, running in from the tunnel through which he had just entered. Upon seeing Fang Zheng, he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

”You scared me, I thought he had left ... good, he’s still here, wait a moment while I take out the enemies behind us ...”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng saw Big Chin muttering and running to the back. Then, after a flurry of whip lashes, he came over to Fang Zheng, looking refreshed.

”Ah, next let’s check out this altar, hmm ... this must represent events from the early days of the Healing Church. As for what happened here, we still don’t know, but next, we have to use this badge ...”

As he said this, Fang Zheng saw Big Chin pull out the badge he had obtained earlier from the hands of a church monster, and then he reached into the brain of the mummified sculpture on the altar.

”Yes, just like that, then activate it ...”

”Click ...”

Accompanying Big Chin’s words, Fang Zheng felt the entire altar shudder briefly, then slowly begin to rise. Meanwhile, Big Chin started running around Fang Zheng.

”Look, this guy from the Undead Squad is really awesome, I guess I’m just riding his coattails this time, otherwise we’d probably be screwed here. Next, we’re heading to the next level. It’s definitely going to be dangerous, but from the badge, it’s clear that this place must be the research facility of the Healing Church. Who knows what secrets the Healing Church is hiding ...”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng saw Big Chin suddenly stop in front of him, then suddenly raise his hands.

”Praise the Moon!”

”............”

Well, this guy is definitely crazy.

”Boom.”

At that moment, the altar had also risen to the top level. Big Chin glanced at Fang Zheng, then turned and ran towards the interior. With no choice but to follow, Fang Zheng shook his head and followed close behind Big Chin, ascending the staircase.

When Fang Zheng entered through the great doors using the stairs, he saw a vast space inside, hollow in the middle, resembling the layout of a department store with corridors barricaded by rails on both sides. The only difference was that instead of elevators, spiraling stairs connected each floor.

At the center of the lobby lay a sunken area, filled with a pungently smelling liquid. However, what attracted Fang Zheng more than this ... was a person kneeling not far from the stairs, seemingly fumbling for something.

”Drip ... Drip ...”

The person was dressed in a coarse cloth robe, with a huge sack covering their head. But what really made Fang Zheng’s skin crawl was that the sack over the head looked far larger than the person’s body, and with every movement they made, it seemed as if there was life writhing inside the sack ... it looked eerily like a bundle of snakes coiled around the neck.

Just as Fang Zheng approached, the person suddenly spoke.

”Has anyone seen my eyes? I seem to have accidentally let them fall into a puddle, now everything is just a blur of gray and white ...”

”.........”

Looking at the figure whose head was completely enshrouded in the sack, still searching for its eyes, Fang Zheng wanted to retort ... you’ve covered up your own head, what do you need eyes for?

As for whether their eyes were indeed in the water ... well, Fang Zheng decided not to ponder that.

”Hello, I’d like to ask you a few things ...”

Though this person looked very bizarre, their tone seemed like they could be communicated with and interacted with. Therefore, Fang Zheng greeted her and tried to initiate some conversation. However, she seemed not to hear Fang Zheng at all, continuing to crouch there, aimlessly searching in the puddle for her eyes, not knowing whether they were really there ...

”.........”

Seeing this, Fang Zheng could be sure, although still unaware of what exactly was going on, that ... evidently, the undercover operations of the Healing Church might be even more terrifying than he had imagined.
