Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 574: Chapter 573: Everyone Must Take Responsibility for Their Choices

After picking up that sword, the Horse-face Monster seemed to have regained its sanity, and its way of fighting had also changed from before.

If at first the Horse-face Monster fought like a pure beast, it now looked more like a knight.

”Swoosh———!”

The greatsword, gleaming with an aquamarine radiance, slashed through the air, colliding heavily with the Black Sword in Fang Zheng’s hand. Fang Zheng rolled backwards to dodge, and at the same time, the Horse-face Monster raised its greatsword again, chopping down towards Fang Zheng. Swiftly, streaks of aquamarine Sword Qi burst from the greatsword, shooting towards Fang Zheng.

In the face of the Sword Qi shot by the Horse-face Monster, Fang Zheng held the Silver Short Sword in his left hand and swung it forward!

A streak of silvery sword light traced through the air, striking the aquamarine Sword Qi. Accompanied by a ’pop’, the aquamarine Sword Qi burst like a balloon. Seizing the opportunity, Fang Zheng rolled forward to close the distance with the Horse-face Monster, then his greatsword quickly thrust forward, striking the body of the Horse-face Monster.

”———!”

However, the Horse-face Monster, struck by Fang Zheng’s blow, did not retreat; instead, it lunged forward, then turned its greatsword upside down, stabbing down forcefully towards Fang Zheng. Seeing this, Fang Zheng quickly retracted his sword and retreated, rolling on the spot to put distance between them once again.

”Boom!!”

The greatsword, gleaming with aquamarine radiance, passed close to Fang Zheng, stabbing into the ground. A series of glows burst from the ground, spreading out like a bomb exploding.

”We see, we must capitalize on this gap in the fight, otherwise you are likely to get hit by his combo. We are not the Undead Squad; we do not have such abilities...”

Meanwhile, Big Chin, who never stopped talking, also ran over from the side, his right hand waving, the Cane Sword in his hand quickly transforming into a Chain Sword and lashing against the Horse-face Monster’s body. After two lashes, Big Chin also rapidly ducked to the other side.

This time, however, the Horse-face Monster seemed not to care about anything Big Chin had done before; it gathered its stance once again, eyes fixed on Fang Zheng. Then, it raised the greatsword with its hands and powered by the four horse legs beneath its body, it galloped once again towards Fang Zheng. Facing the charging Horse-face Monster, Fang Zheng clutched his weapon tightly, carefully watching its movements.

In Fang Zheng’s eyes, the Horse-face Monster had shed its previous bloodthirsty beast appearance, and now seemed like a centaur knight charging towards the enemy. The greatsword in its hands, blazing with brilliant light, left a bright trail in the dim air, slashing diagonally across the right front, chopping down towards Fang Zheng!

This way!

As the Horse-face Monster launched its attack, Fang Zheng also immediately rolled to the side, barely missing the sweeping blade, landing beside the Horse-face Monster. But this time, the Horse-face Monster did not freeze as before; the instant after missing, it turned around, its greatsword chopping down towards Fang Zheng once more.

And Fang Zheng quickly leaped backwards to dodge, his Dual Swords crossed in front of him to block.

”Clang!!”

The descending greatsword collided with the crossed Dual Swords in Fang Zheng’s hands. Accompanied by a violent impact, Fang Zheng flew backwards and then rolled to steady his stance on the ground. As he looked up again, he saw the Horse-face Monster in the distance already raising its greatsword towards him, with dazzling light bursting from the blade, exploding.

”Now’s the chance, we see the creature is powering up its ultimate move; we hit it during its rigid phase and then run...”

The pressure in the air became tangible at that moment, and even without knowing what it was, Fang Zheng could guess that the Horse-face Monster was preparing for a powerful strike!

However, Big Chin once again took advantage of these moments to run next to the Horse-face Monster, swinging the cane sword at it a few times and then turning quickly to run away...

Simultaneously, the Horse-face Monster swung down its greatsword at Fang Zheng!

”—————!!”

The aquamarine radiance turned into a torrent rushing towards Fang Zheng!

”Look, look, the monster is using its ultimate move; it’s over, over, I think the Undead Squad is going to hit the deck!”

Hit the deck my ass!

Listening to Big Chin’s incessant ”commentary” at his side, Fang Zheng rolled his eyes. Just because his opponent could release a curry stick, did that mean his sword was for show?

With that thought, Fang Zheng held tight to the ”Sword of True Severance” in his right hand; black lightning burst from the blade as he gripped the Black Greatsword, swinging it forward at what was ahead! In sync with Fang Zheng’s motion, the thunder that thrashed incessantly on the blade surged out, converging into a blast towards the front.

This was the special inherent skill of the ”Sword of Piercing Truth” —— Summoning the Lightning of Death!

”Boom!!”

Black lightning erupted from the greatsword, colliding with the oncoming aquamarine radiance. In an instant, shockwaves scattered, cracking the ground beneath, and the half-dead around them who were directly hit by the outbreak of black lightning and aquamarine sword light screamed as they turned into mutilated corpses.

”What is this? What is this? What did I see?”

Upon witnessing this scene, Big Chin also cried out in surprise.

”Did the Undead Squad release the Soul Torrent? No, what is this? I’m afraid I’ve seen a fake Undead Squad!”

Fang Zheng had no interest in bantering with Big Chin at the moment; he gripped the greatsword in his hand and, as the Lightning of Death vanished, he sprinted forward and then leaped into the air.

At this moment, the Horse-face Monster seemed to be weakened from the last move, drained of power!

This was the best opportunity!

Aiming at the creature before him, Fang Zheng swung his sword without hesitation!

”Pfft...”

Blood splattered.

When Fang Zheng landed back on the ground, behind him lay a corpse that was already headless, spurting blood. The head of the Horse-face Monster tumbled through the air before thudding onto the ground. With its head severed, the massive body of the Horse-face Monster also collapsed thunderously and then quickly melted into a pool of thick blood.

”Whew...”

Fang Zheng exhaled deeply, then he stood up, sheathed his sword, and walked over to the horse head——that head, incredibly, was not yet dead but still clung to life and vigor.

Seeing Fang Zheng approaching, it blinked its eyes.

”Kind Hunter, have you ever glimpsed a ray of dawn? So faint, so fleeting, yet I cannot let go, even though I am already immersed in the stench of blood and monsters...”

As he spoke, the Horse-face Monster looked toward the greatsword glowing softly nearby, nostalgia and regret appearing in his eyes.

”I never wanted to know the true nature of that light, not even once. Hahaha... Hahaha... Ahhhhh... Uhhh...!!”

With these words, the Horse-face Monster suddenly let out a sound that was a mix of laughing and crying.

”Was everything I stood for, everything I defended, everything I believed in, wrong? I once thought I was fighting for justice and truth, but the opposite was the reality. Those who criticized me were right; I am a Fallen... controlled by beastiality...”

”Everyone must pay the price for their actions.”

Fang Zheng looked at the Horse-face Monster before him. He didn’t know what had happened to this Horse-face Monster, but he could hear the deep regret and sorrow in its tone.

”And you’ve paid your price, looking at the state you’re in now; you no longer need to atone, for you have already been punished.”

”Yes...”

Upon hearing this, a semblance of peace seemed to appear in the eyes of the Horse-face Monster.

”I have already been punished... Thank you, kind Hunter... Now, my everything comes to an end... I will fall into eternal slumber... Now, I can courageously face the sins I have committed. Those slanders, those insults, I once thought they were just one-sided accusations, but now it seems they are the retribution I deserved... I used to believe that the Church was just, that they would ultimately protect the truth. But... the reality wasn’t so...”

”Go forth, Hunter, end my nightmare, and keep moving forward. If I’m not mistaken, what lies hidden within is the Healing Church’s greatest sin...”

Fang Zheng raised the greatsword in his hand, aiming at the head of the Horse-face Monster.

”To have spoken with you for a moment is also fate. If you don’t mind, tell me your name. I will inscribe it on your gravestone.”

”...”

Hearing Fang Zheng speak, the Horse-face Monster opened its eyes again, stared at Fang Zheng for a moment, and then said softly,

”Ludwig... my name is... Ludwig...”

”Nice name, just a bit unfortunate looking. Don’t be disheartened, in your next life you might turn out as handsome as me.”

After hearing Ludwig’s reply, Fang Zheng nodded, then thrusted his sword downward, piercing through Ludwig’s head.
