Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 567: Chapter 566: Guided by Fate

Reaching Byronvis Academy required traversing the Forbidden Forest, and it was no easy path.

When Fang Zheng and Eileen left the grand Church again, the dusk had unknowingly turned into nightfall, with all of Anan shrouded in a silent darkness. The Forbidden Forest was even more gloomy; apart from the brightness of the torches along the way, it was pitch black, and nothing could be seen.

In the darkness, dangers also lurked.

”Hiss!!”

A cluster of snakes hissed as they sprang out from the bushes, striking towards Fang Zheng with their heads, but while their bodies were still mid-air, they were cleaved in two by a shadow of a sword, scattering the severed snake corpses on the ground, still wriggling disgustingly, resembling oversized earthworms.

”Why did you come to Anan?”

Watching Fang Zheng carrying his greatsword and continuing to move forward without stopping, Eileen, who was following behind him, asked.

”Since you say you’re not here for Blood Healing, what are you doing in Anan? And how did you get caught up in this nightmare?”

”If I said I’m just plain unlucky, would you believe me?”

Fang Zheng turned his head to glance at Eileen, shrugged his shoulders, while Eileen let out a light huff.

”If that’s true, then your luck is really too terrible... So, who exactly are you? You can’t possibly be just an ordinary traveler. I can tell you have very good skills, skills that I have never even seen among the Hunters, and your way of fighting is also very unique...”

While she spoke, Eileen carefully looked at Fang Zheng’s weapons. At that moment, Fang Zheng’s right hand was carrying a greatsword, and his other Dagger hung at his left side. She had seen warriors use Dual Swords before; Maria from the Healing Church was famous for it, and Eileen herself was also skilled in using two Daggers in combat.

But Fang Zheng’s style of combat was different from theirs; his swordsmanship gave Eileen a sense of natural grace, filled with an indescribable aura. Whenever he swung his sword, Eileen felt as though she was being transported to an ancient era almost beyond description, a profound heaviness hitting her so directly that it almost left her breathless.

In the face of such an aura, ordinary people simply couldn’t remain calm. Eileen suspected that most people would lose their will to fight the moment this foreigner drew his sword.

Of course, that’s talking about ordinary people. As for others...

”Over here!!” fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm

A villager wielding a torch and an axe yelled and charged at Fang Zheng. Facing the enemy before him, Fang Zheng didn’t hesitate to strike the villager with his sword. But this time, the villager didn’t fall; instead, his body swayed slightly, and then Fang Zheng saw the villager’s head violently open up. Then, several snakes burst out from the villager’s head, which had opened up like petals, baring their fangs and lunging at Fang Zheng.

It had to be acknowledged that this Transformation was indeed unexpected, but clearly, Fang Zheng was also used to such sudden attacks. Facing the venomous snakes’ bites, he dodged with a side leap; at the same time, he raised his left hand wielding the Dagger, and several flashes of light appeared in the air, intersecting to form a barrier, cutting off all the heads of those snakes that pounced towards him. Then he thrust with the greatsword in his right hand, piercing directly through the opponent’s chest.

The villager screamed and fell to the ground, and at the same time, the snakeheads that had burst out quickly retracted.

”I’ve seen quite a few Creatures, but I have to say, the mutations of these guys are really disgusting,”

Fang Zheng commented, looking at the body lying on the ground. To be fair, among the worlds Fang Zheng had traveled through, those filled with darkness and bloodiness ranked at the top, but when it came to revulsion, this world was truly unique.

”You’ve seen quite a few Creatures?”

Having witnessed Fang Zheng’s strength, Eileen now essentially followed him like a fish chanting praises out of water. Perhaps because she had relaxed quite a bit, even gossip had started to interest her.

After all, the Hunters Eileen had encountered were either seeking Blood Healing or had some sort of agenda... But this foreigner was different. Eileen felt that, compared to those Hunters, his attitude was more like that of a tourist visiting here. This made Eileen even more curious about this stranger: Who exactly was he? Where did he come from? What were his experiences?

Eileen had been in Anan for far too long, so long that she had almost forgotten about the world outside of Anan, until Fang Zheng’s arrival reminded her—this world was not limited to Anan alone.

”More or less, all kinds, some very powerful, some very scary, and some quite disgusting... But relatively speaking, it’s still more disgusting here,”

Fang Zheng didn’t tell a lie. In terms of disgust, the Intestinal Creatures from the Black World were nauseating enough. But strictly speaking, the Intestinal Creatures were just visually repulsive, like flies or maggots; naturally, you’d find them disgusting and uncomfortable, a basic human reaction.

But the creatures of this world were different; they weren’t simply odd-looking and hard to accept. Instead, they were mutations based on the familiar cognitions of humans, and this feeling was even more disturbing than purely mutated beings.

For instance...

”Buzz!!”

Just as Fang Zheng and Eileen turned the corner, a dark shadow suddenly leapt out from the bushes nearby, making a buzzing sound like a fly as it pounced towards Fang Zheng. It looked like an oversized humanoid fly, with a thin body and long limbs.

But what was most unbearable was its head!

On this ”person’s” head, the area above its mouth was completely occupied by eyes. Moreover, these eyes were not of regular size, instead, they were each as big as water balloons. The numerous eyes squeezed together, from a distance, resembled a fly’s compound eyes!

Not only that, this ”person’s” mouth was similar to a mosquito’s proboscis, sharp in shape. Fang Zheng could almost imagine how it attacked its enemies... well, that wasn’t good for his appetite.

Although the creature was disgusting, it didn’t possess much defensive strength. The moment it lunged out, Fang Zheng had already cleaved it with his sword and then went straight up to behead it.

”So gross, if I see too much of this, I’ll definitely have nightmares.”

”We are in a nightmare right now, outsider.”

Eileen, who was following behind Fang Zheng, made a nonchalant quip, and Fang Zheng just shrugged his shoulders.

”Fine, then this is indeed a nightmare... Huh? Did you hear that?”

At that moment, Fang Zheng suddenly heard a faint ”crunch, crunch” noise nearby, like some beast nibbling on something. Hearing this, Fang Zheng and Eileen exchanged looks, then drew their weapons and cautiously headed towards the source of the noise.

As Fang Zheng and Eileen rounded the wooded area, they came upon a mill, and in the small courtyard in front of the mill, a man was kneeling on the ground, seemingly devouring something with his head down.

Um... why does this scene look so familiar?

If it wasn’t impossible, Fang Zheng really wanted to exit and check whether he had been switched to the Resident Evil script... That turning head and charming smile was a hallmark of Resident Evil, after all...

Just then, the man seemed to have heard the noise behind him. He turned around, looked at Fang Zheng and Eileen, and then hurriedly got to his feet.

”Oh... sorry, I didn’t expect anyone else to be here...”

”I didn’t either.”

Looking at the man before him, Fang Zheng narrowed his eyes. The man looked unkempt, his entire body wrapped in bandages except for a jacket.

”I, I am a survivor...”

Facing Fang Zheng’s scrutinizing gaze, the man appeared nervous.

”Actually, I’ve been looking for a safe haven. I wonder if you could help me; I don’t want to stay in this terrible place any longer... If I stay, I’m afraid I won’t live much longer...”

”You’re right about that.”

But just as the man finished speaking, Fang Zheng raised his weapon and aimed it at him.

”Indeed, you won’t live much longer!”

As the words fell, Fang Zheng, like a whirlwind, suddenly lunged forward; his greatsword slicing through the air, aiming straight for the man’s neck. At the same time, Eileen also rolled forward like a ghost, appearing behind the man with her dual blades drawn out in a flash, stabbing towards his back.

Facing the sudden assault from Fang Zheng and Eileen, the man was clearly taken aback, hastily raising his hands to block the path of Fang Zheng’s sword. Accompanied by a dull sound, Fang Zheng’s greatsword, gripped tightly in his right hand, deeply cleaved into the man’s raised right arm, leaving a deep, bone-revealing wound.

”Roar——!!”

At the same time, the man opened his mouth and let out a roar like thunder; his body rapidly swelled, and in the blink of an eye, transformed into a massive black beast surrounded by thunder.
