Chapter 554: Chapter 553: The Beauty is Dead, Only the Beast Remains

”Doom... doom...!”

Fang Zheng stepped up the stairs, first encountering a dark cemetery. At the end of the cemetery, next to the staircase’s streetlight, stood a man in a coat and top hat, his back toward Fang Zheng, lifting an axe as if chopping something while muttering to himself.

This one... seems a bit off mentally.

Fang Zheng watched the tall man’s back, hesitated for a moment, then decided to speak up.

”Excuse me, sir, I’m sorry to disturb you, but have you seen a lady wearing a ruby brooch?”

”...”

However, facing Fang Zheng’s question, the man straightened up, still with his back to Fang Zheng, remaining silent. Seeing this, Fang Zheng clenched the cane sword in his hand—indeed, from his experience, those who turn their back and stay silent, pretending to be profound, are very likely some kind of bosses getting ready to transform and attack.

Sure enough, at this moment, the man began to speak.

”... The streets are full of beasts... you will eventually become one of them...”

”Beasts?”

Upon hearing the man’s reply, Fang Zheng froze for a moment. But before he could ask anything further, he saw the man turn around. His disheveled, pale hair hid his face as he opened his mouth, emitting a beast-like growl. Then, the man raised the firearm in his left hand and fired a shot at Fang Zheng!

Damn it, I knew it was this trick!

The moment the man turned around, Fang Zheng had been on alert. Seeing the man raise his firearm, he quickly rolled on the ground, hiding behind a nearby tree. Accompanying the ”bang” of the gunshot, the tree where Fang Zheng was hiding was immediately peppered with flying wood splinters, and the man, missing his target, didn’t hesitate and ran towards Fang Zheng, leaping high with the axe whistling down at him!

This is bad!

If Fang Zheng had restored his strength at this moment, he could have sent this man back home with a single slap. Regrettably, almost all of his special powers were currently sealed except for his physical body, leaving him virtually defenseless.

Thus, faced with the man’s descending axe, Fang Zheng rolled on the spot, dodged to the side of the man, then leapt up. His chain sword once again whistled as it tore through the air, striking powerfully at the man.

”Bang!!”

The chain sword struck the man’s body, but unlike the creatures Fang Zheng had easily torn apart before, it felt like hitting a thick barrel—other than a few blood splatters, it seemed the man hardly reacted.

This guy is definitely a freak!

”Huh——!”

As Fang Zheng marveled at the man’s body strength, the man turned his head and swung his axe again, forcing Fang Zheng to roll back again. Mimicking the man’s earlier actions, Fang Zheng then raised his firearm, aimed at the man, and pulled the trigger.

”Bang!!”

This Middle Ages firearm wasn’t very powerful, nor did it have a far range. Fang Zheng could even see the iron pellets scatter on the man’s body, merely causing his body to slightly lean back, after which he roared angrily, rushing forward again.

Damn it! If I had a dagger or a shield in my hand, I’d teach you a lesson right now!

Watching the man charge at him again, Fang Zheng inwardly cursed, then rolled again to maintain a distance. But unexpectedly, this time the man reached out, grabbed the handle of his axe, forcefully twisted it, and what was originally a one-handed axe transformed into a long-handled weapon. He then raised the axe high once more and swung it down at Fang Zheng forcefully.

Damn, there’s such a move? Are you kidding me?

Watching the transformation of the man’s weapon, Fang Zheng was dumbfounded. He quickly dodged to the side, the axe nearly grazing the hair on his head as it fell, then heavily struck the ground.

”Boom!!”

As the axe hit the ground, Fang Zheng felt a blast of air strike him, sending him flying backward. Luckily, Fang Zheng reacted quickly; he turned in mid-air and landed steadily on the ground. At the same moment, he saw the man raising his firearm at him again. Seeing this, Fang Zheng, who had just landed, didn’t hesitate to roll forward, hiding behind a tombstone again. Almost simultaneously, as the gunshot sounded, the ground where Fang Zheng had been just moments before was blasted into a rough pit.

Both are handguns, so why is yours so excellent, and mine like a water pistol?

Fang Zheng seized the opportunity to raise his gun again and, aiming at the man, pulled the trigger. However, to his dismay, the bullet struck the man just like before, producing only a few drops of blood without causing significant damage. Instead, it seemed that Fang Zheng’s relentless counterattack made the man grow even more berserk.

The man, gripping his axe with both hands, glared at Fang Zheng with a fierce smile, resembling a wild beast sizing up its prey.

”... What is that scent? Ah, the sweet smell of fresh blood, oh, listen, it’s singing to me... These are enough to make a person sick...”

”I think you are not only sick, but deeply so!”

As the crazed man charged at him again, Fang Zheng huffed coldly. He stared at the man and just as he was about to swing his axe again, Fang Zheng suddenly raised his firearm, forcefully blocking the descending axe handle!

”Clang!!”

The sound of weapons clashing rang out. Fang Zheng’s firearm shattered under the immense force of the axe. At the same time, the man howled in pain, bending down to half-squat on the ground, his hands holding the axe weakly hanging, seemingly devoid of strength.

Seeing the man half-squatting before him, Fang Zheng did not hesitate. He gripped the sword handle tightly and struck it hard against the ground, producing a ”crack” sound. The Chain Sword transformed back into a Straight Sword. Then, Fang Zheng aimed at the man’s chest and thrust forcefully!

Execution!

”Pouf!!”

The Cane Sword pierced through the man’s chest. Fang Zheng kicked him square in the chest, knocking the enemy to the ground. However, the man clearly was not so easily defeated, as he began to roll about in agony, even trying to struggle back to his feet.

Is he really human?

Watching the man who had been pierced through the chest yet not died, Fang Zheng was speechless. Just as he was about to step forward to decapitate him, suddenly, the situation changed.

”Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa!!”

In front of Fang Zheng, the man who had been struggling to rise suddenly clutched his head, screaming in immense pain as if in agony.

What happened?

Watching this scene, Fang Zheng also carefully stepped back a few steps. Only then did he hear a faint, crisp sound of ”ding ding dang dang” music around him.

Music?

Fang Zheng turned towards the source of the sound, surprised to see not far in front of him, a music box that had flipped open was continuously playing music... It was the one he had received from a little girl, perhaps it had accidentally fallen there during the fight.

But... Thinking about this, Fang Zheng looked again at the man in pain clutching his head.

Could it be... no way...

”Hey, wake up! I got this music box from a little girl who asked me to find her parents! Do you know that child?”

”Child... child...”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s voice, the crazed man finally regained some clarity. He lifted his head, looking in the direction of Fang Zheng— It was only then that Fang Zheng noticed that the man’s eyes were completely wrapped with bandages, completely blind to anything.

”Please... stranger... help me... protect... the child... go to the... Church behind... Ahhhhhhh!!”

The man couldn’t finish his sentence before it turned into a painful howl. In front of Fang Zheng’s eyes, the man’s body began to swell like a balloon. His clothes tore apart, dense fur appeared on his body, and his head distorted and elongated, resembling... a wolf.

”.........”

Seeing this, Fang Zheng finally understood where those Werewolves came from.
