Chapter 564: Chapter 563 Why does it look so familiar?

”You fool!”

As Eileen staggered back, she watched Fang Zheng, who was charging at the monster Amelia had become with his greatsword, and couldn’t help but erupt in a low roar. As a Hunter, Eileen certainly knew how powerful this terrifying creature was. In the history of Anan, several people had been transformed into horrible monsters due to excessive beastification.

Among the most notorious was Lawrence, the first Archbishop of the Healing Church, who had led an exploration team deep into the underground ruins. Unable to hold on, he eventually succumbed to the beastification and transformed into a terrifying monster. That was also the first case of a member of the Divine Staff transforming into a monster.

In that brutal battle, only one person escaped unscathed. He killed the berserk Lawrence and returned to the surface with his head. As for the others, they had all been slain by the berserk Lawrence.

Afterward, there were often appearances of huge, terrible monsters, and every time the Church fought these creatures, it suffered heavy losses. And now, was that young man really planning to face such a monster all by himself?

If Fang Zheng knew what Eileen was thinking at the moment, he would surely tell her that when it comes to dealing with this thing... he was certainly professional!

”Roar...!!”

As Fang Zheng rushed towards her, the monster Amelia let out an angry roar. She raised her enlarged hand and slapped it down hard towards Fang Zheng. He rolled to the side, just reaching the monster’s legs, then quickly got up and swung his greatsword heavily at the beast’s hind legs!

Accompanied by a spray of blood, the monster screamed miserably. It turned around, raising its right claw and swiftly swiping towards where Fang Zheng was. But right after his successful strike, Fang Zheng swiftly leaped backward, narrowly avoiding the monster’s claw attack. The onslaught from the monster didn’t end there, however. After its blow missed, it immediately raised both hands, clenched them together, and hammered down towards Fang Zheng!

”Boom!!”

The monster’s fists smashed heavily into the ground, but Fang Zheng had already rolled away before the attack landed. The next moment, he pushed off the ground with his legs and leaped into the air, raising his greatsword and chopping down at the monster’s head with all his might!

”Ohhhhh!!!”

Fang Zheng’s fluid combo moves came together flawlessly, so much so that when his greatsword fell, the monster couldn’t even react in time to understand what had happened. It could only instinctively let out a pained wail as it collapsed to the ground with a ”thump.” Not stopping there, Fang Zheng swiftly stepped back and his greatsword, whistling as it tore through the air, stabbed forcefully once more towards the head of the creature in front of him.

”... How is this possible...”

Watching the battle unfold, Eileen was completely stunned. She was certain that even in the heyday of the Church, defeating such a huge monster required assembling dozens of powerful Hunters together, yet now, this young man had managed to get the upper hand on the creature all by himself?

What’s more, throughout the process, he hadn’t been injured in the slightest by the monster?!

Just as he said, this foreigner indeed knew how to handle these terrifying creatures—he was truly professional!

Where on earth did this man come from?

For a moment, Eileen became consumed with curiosity. Although Anan was a gathering place for people from all over the world, among them many strong warriors—like Eileen herself, who had come here seeking a cure for illness and had chosen to stay due to the beast plague—she had only ever faced beasts in the woods and other humans before coming to Anan.

Before that, she had never encountered such large and terrifying monsters!

But this foreigner was clearly different. He seemed very familiar with fighting against such enormous creatures. As a fellow combat expert, Eileen could tell that every move and technique of Fang Zheng had become an instinct ingrained in his body.

The monster that had transformed from Amelia could easily annihilate an entire Hunting Squad of the Healing Church, but now it seemed like a Husky, almost harmless except for being led by the nose by Fang Zheng. It attempted to attack the annoying enemy before it time and again, yet each time Fang Zheng managed to dodge its attacks in the nick of time and seize the opportunity to counterattack.

By now, Amelia was exhausted, and Fang Zheng’s greatsword struck her body one slice after another. Blood flowed out from her wounds, and her counterattacks grew weaker. Finally, after the creature missed another strike, Fang Zheng swung his greatsword fiercely and chopped down upon its head. The monster’s head, which had appeared invulnerable, could not withstand Fang Zheng’s blow; it let out a wretched scream and collapsed on the ground completely.

At the same time, Fang Zheng felt a surge of power travel from the weapon into his body once again.

”Phew...”

Setting down his greatsword, Fang Zheng let out a sigh of relief. The recent battle had reminded him of his training in the Black Soul World, where he had faced all sorts of enormous monsters. Some were so huge that one of their hands was bigger than his entire body, capable of flattening Fang Zheng with a single slap.

And this monster, to be honest, wasn’t that difficult to deal with... Hm?

Looking at the corpse of the monster before him, Fang Zheng suddenly frowned; he squinted and scrutinized it from top to bottom, then walked over to its side, looking at the creature’s claws.

”What’s wrong, outsider?”

At that moment, Eileen, who had been standing by, approached. She had wanted to help earlier, but after witnessing Fang Zheng’s battle, she consciously stood aside to watch. After all, Eileen wielded daggers, which were rather inadequate against such a huge monster.

”No... It’s just that this thing looks somewhat familiar, as if I’ve seen something similar somewhere...”

Fang Zheng stroked his chin, carefully inspecting the monster. Although he had never seen this particular one before, some of its features were very familiar to him. Perhaps it was because many worlds had similar settings?

For instance, the basic zombies in movies and games were like mass-produced in a factory, the only difference being whether they run fast or slow...

Forget it, probably won’t find any answers right now.

Fang Zheng shook his head, tucked his questions away in his mind, and then turned around. He saw Eileen carefully retrieving a gold watch from the left claw of the monster.

”What’s that?”

Fang Zheng looked curiously at the gold watch, but he wasn’t concerned about Eileen’s act of searching the corpse; considering the boss’s shabby appearance, it probably hadn’t dropped anything worthwhile.

”This is the Archbishop’s memento...”

Eileen looked at the pocket watch in her hand with complex emotions. Even after becoming a monster, Amelia had kept gripping the watch in her left hand as if it was the most precious thing in her life.

”It seems we won’t find any clues here.”

Fang Zheng glanced at the watch and quickly diverted his attention. For him, these trivial, ancient stories didn’t matter. What mattered was the Archbishop, who could have provided clues, had died without saying a word, not even coming to a sudden realization or uttering a few keywords before dying...

So what next?

Fang Zheng thought for a moment, then decided to return to the small chapel first to rest for a while before considering his next move. And... he also needed to present the ”Firewood” he had gathered to the Fire Keeper, to kindle the flame deep within his soul.
