Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 573: Chapter 572: Is It My Fault for Being Handsome?

”Hmm?”

Feeling the dagger in his hand tremble, Fang Zheng hesitated. He could feel a certain will coming from the dagger he held. Although it was not very clear, Fang Zheng could still understand the intent of the dagger.

”Can you be upgraded?”

The dagger trembled slightly, then stopped—this was equivalent to a nod.

”Can it be done now?”

The dagger trembled twice, then fell silent.

”Not possible? Do you need something... Ah, I know now...”

It was only then that Fang Zheng remembered that the reforging of these two swords was done by the Fire Keeper at the Firelink Altar in the dream realm. This meant that if he wanted to modify these two weapons, he must return to the dream realm and find the Fire Keeper, right?

If that was the case, then he might as well wait.

Currently, Fang Zheng didn’t have the time, especially with Big Chin still lurking ahead.

The farther he walked, the more Fang Zheng realized that this place was basically a chaotic battlefield. Everywhere he looked, there were massacres and battles, hunters slaughtering werewolves, creatures slaughtering hunters, villagers slaughtering creatures. The sewers and streets were piled with corpses. Those who had been flayed seemed completely undead as they moaned in pain; when Fang Zheng and Big Chin approached, they could see those people, reduced to bones and viscera, reaching out to them, as if begging them to end their suffering.

Was this the nightmare of the hunters?

Looking at the mountains of corpses and seas of blood, Fang Zheng kept silent. He wasn’t sure what had happened here, but he suspected that the ”operation” Dr. Yushefka had mentioned before might be related to this. According to Dr. Yushefka, the Healing Church had undergone significant changes after some operation, and many hunters had almost disappeared overnight. From what Fang Zheng had seen, the disappearance of these hunters was probably related.

But... what exactly did these hunters do?

From what Fang Zheng had seen, they clearly seemed to have carried out a massacre, but it was strange because the situation in this Anan seemed even more dire than the Anan he had been in before. If the Healing Church had done such a thing, the Anan people would surely not be unaware of it. Let’s not talk about the little girl, Mrs. Sophie must know something too. However, recalling the old woman’s previous statements, she had never disclosed such a situation.

But after all, this was just a nightmare. The scenes in it might not correspond to reality.

Meanwhile, Fang Zheng and Big Chin waded through the blood-stained sewage, crossing the underground river to reach a wide space inside. It looked like an abandoned garbage dump, with bodies covered in blood thrown about everywhere.

”Ah...”

Just as Fang Zheng and Big Chin walked in, suddenly, from a pile of corpses not far from them, a thin man covered in blood struggled to rise, desperately stretching out his hand toward them.

”Ah... please help us...”

He said tremblingly while turning his head to look behind him.

”That ugly beast... a tremendous fear looms over us...”

”Boom...!!”

As if to underscore his words, a deep sound of footsteps came from in front of them. Hearing these footsteps, the man trembled and curled up into a ball, shivering continuously.

”Ah... it’s here! Listen! The cursed Ludwig is here! Spare us, oh spare us!”

Accompanied by cries of agony, soon a massive creature appeared in front of Fang Zheng and Big Chin. It had a huge body, looking like a hybrid of a man and a horse. It had two necks, one of which bore a face that was a fusion of half human face and half horse face. The other neck seemed to have been chopped by something, leaving only a huge hole. However, in that hole, countless eyes were attached and rolled continuously with the creature’s movements.

The creature’s two arms had elongated like those of a wild beast, and it was supported by four horse legs below, with two human legs vaguely visible at the sides of its body. And, it seemed to be carrying a greatsword on its back?

”This Elder Brother Horse-face has quite the personality...”

Watching the creature in front of him, Fang Zheng was so stunned. He had seen disgusting things, but he had never seen anything as disgusting as this. Fang Zheng really wanted to find out whose creation this nightmarish scene was — your sense of aesthetics is too anti-human!

”— !!” ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

But the creature obviously wouldn’t be polite with Fang Zheng. It let out a sound that was both a shout and like a horse’s neigh, then charged at Fang Zheng and Big Chin like a warhorse!

”This one’s tough to fight, we need to observe carefully!”

Big Chin also seemed to realize something was wrong. He screamed out and quickly rolled to the side, evading the creature’s charge together with Fang Zheng. Missing its target, the creature quickly turned around. It raised its head to look at Fang Zheng, then swiped at him with a claw.

”Oh my god, why go after me and not him? Is it because I’m handsomer? This is discrimination based on looks!”

As the Horse-face Monster lunged at him, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but grumble inwardly. Being handsome wasn’t his fault; he was born this way and didn’t ask for it. If possible, Fang Zheng would have preferred to blend in with everyone else rather than stand out for his looks. What’s so good about being handsome? Ever since he was little, girls had flocked around him, and boys would challenge him to fights because the girl they liked had eyes for him... Ah, such unwarranted disasters!

From this, it was evident that the Horse-face Monster, probably an ugly and dumpy human before, must have targeted him out of jealousy.

It definitely was jealousy!

Being handsome isn’t my fault!

Fang Zheng grumbled to himself, but his actions didn’t stop. He stared intently at the Horse-face Monster, rolled to the side as it pounced, and its right claw barely missed his hair, scraping the ground on the other side and even sparking against the hard floor.

Having such hostility towards a good-looking guy, it definitely had to be an ugly loser.

Fang Zheng leapt to his feet, and his right hand swung the greatsword fiercely, striking the Horse-face Monster’s right foreleg and causing it to stagger and halt. Seizing the moment, Fang Zheng spun around and his greatsword whooshed out again, stabbing the monster in the flank.

”Bang!!”

The sharp and sturdy greatsword didn’t penetrate the Horse-face Monster’s equally hard body, but the blow made it howl in pain, then collapse to the ground.

Just then, Fang Zheng saw Big Chin sneaking up behind the Horse-face Monster, then he raised his right hand... Oh my god, big brother, are you kidding me!

”Booty grab!”

Under Fang Zheng’s watch, Big Chin shouted, then his right hand suddenly shot out, plunging directly into the Horse-face Monster’s rear, all the way up to the elbow!

Watching this scene, Fang Zheng was utterly dumbfounded!

”———————!!”

Stricken by Big Chin’s wildly crazed strike, the Horse-face Monster cried out in pain, then suddenly turned and lunged at him!

”Wow, this guy’s counterattack is so fierce, I can’t hold on anymore!”

As the Horse-face Monster furiously retaliated, Big Chin seemed to struggle, dodging its attacks but still getting thrown away by a swipe of its claw. However, Big Chin quickly rolled to his feet and pulled a blood bottle from his waist, drinking it down. He then rolled again, dodging another charge from the Horse-face Monster.

”Hey, Undead Squad, help a guy out! Someone’s going to die here!”

You sure know how to keep its attention.

Watching the Horse-face Monster relentlessly chasing Big Chin, Fang Zheng sighed. He had thought about letting Big Chin keep luring the creature while he sneaked away. But considering that Big Chin had helped him learn a new combat skill, he felt a sense of gratitude.

Thus, Fang Zheng watched the creature intently, gripping his greatsword again — soon, the pitch-black blade began to glow red and flames emerged from the steel.

Just as the Horse-face Monster leaped high and then dropped trying to crush Big Chin, Fang Zheng roared and jumped up, his greatsword tracing a perfect arc in the air, striking the monster’s body hard and sending it flying.

”Boom!!”

With a loud crash, the Horse-face Monster hit a nearby wall, then fell to the ground while the greatsword on its back dropped beside it.

It was a beautiful greatsword, completely translucent and shimmering with a gentle glow like the dark moon. You could even see speckles of light across the blade.

”Ah...”

Under the moon-like glow, the Horse-face Monster seemed to slowly come to its senses. It opened its eyes and slowly looked at the greatsword beside it, a hint of nostalgia in its gaze.

”Ah... You’ve been with me all along... my true mentor, the moonlight that guided me...”

Talking to itself, the Horse-face Monster slowly got up — this time, it transformed not just into any human, but into its true human form.

Then, it reached out, took the glowing greatsword in its hand, and held it up in front of itself, looking toward Fang Zheng.

”Come, Hunter...”
