Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 492: Chapter 491: Have you played tower defense games?

”So, Master, are you implying that the Goddess of Order in this world might actually come from an alien planet?”

Nymph blinked curiously, shifting her gaze from the thick scriptures before her to look at Fang Zheng. Fang Zheng, on the other hand, looked at the Little Angel and nodded.

”That’s what I’m thinking.”

If Fang Zheng had not thought this way before, now, after reading the scriptures, he immediately had his doubts. What exactly is the Goddess of Order? From the scriptures, Fang Zheng found many strange details. For instance, the initial sections recorded the history of humans struggling to survive under the erosion of Chaos on this continent.

However, in these parts, although there were many descriptions of human deaths or mutations, there was never any mention of Heaven or Hell. But after the second part, when the Goddess of Order appeared, there was day and night, the four seasons were introduced, and so were Heaven and Hell. It was from this time that the people of this world were endowed with the clear concepts of ”good” and ”evil,” such as previously they would just refer to some as ”terrible fog,” but after the arrival of the Goddess of Order, they began to call it ”evil Chaos.”

”Terrible” is an instinctual feeling, but ”evil” is an external definition.

”What do you think?”

”Uh... it’s hard to say...”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s question, Nymph frowned, showing a troubled expression.

”Previously, α had also received orders to destroy Babylon, and at that time, the Ground Worms also considered it a Divine Punishment, but in reality, that was nothing more than a weapon system of our Artificial Angels. In my opinion, maybe the Ground Worms would deem any force beyond their understanding and resistance as a Deity. From this point, your idea is quite plausible, Master, but... does this have anything to do with what we are currently doing?”

”It’s not completely unrelated.”

Faced with Nymph’s inquiry, Fang Zheng thought for a moment and then pointed at the scriptures.

”According to what Knight Commander Wells described, this year’s movements of the Demon Beasts are very unusual, and the only information that the scouts from the Northern Fortress could bring back was from this passage of scriptures. Knight Commander Wells believes that they might have witnessed phenomena similar to those described in the scriptures. But if it’s true that the Goddess of Order is a being from a higher civilization, then... could this possibly be some kind of device?”

”Eh?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s speculation, the Little Angel was startled and then looked at the scriptures again, nodding after a moment of silence.

”Indeed, if we disregard those subjective conjectures and artistic embellishments, this does seem like a device operating within the Earth’s crust...”

”Can you guess what it might be used for?”

”That’s hard to say, Master.”

This time, even the Little Angel helplessly shook her head.

”The scriptures of the Ground Worms also describe some effects, but the reasons capable of producing these effects are unknown. It’s very possible that it’s some kind of resource-gathering device, or it could be using geothermal energy as a core; considering descriptions like the wrath of the Deity, perhaps it could be a Core Bomb...”

”It would be better if we could investigate from near-Earth orbit.”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng could not help but complain. After having the Sea Mist Fleet, he had tried to let Iona and her companions enter the outer atmospheric near-Earth orbit, but it did not work at all. Whenever the warship reached around fifty thousand meters in altitude, Fang Zheng would receive a notification from the system that the Warship of Sea Mist was about to exceed the system’s range and would be forcibly transferred.

Later, Fang Zheng disbelievingly experimented several more times, with the same results.

Fang Zheng was sure that there were some tricks involved, but currently, he didn’t have a better solution. But now... it seemed he might have found some clues.

The likelihood of the Goddess of Order being a higher civilization’s existence was quite high, in Fang Zheng’s view. Although the scriptures described activities like separating heaven and earth, defining the seasons, and demarcating time and order that were certainly not within the capabilities of ordinary people, from a scientific perspective, such feats were not entirely impossible.

It was just like those ”real” Earthlings Fang Zheng had encountered in The Matrix of Hackers; they were merely short on time, otherwise, once those people truly quantified their soul’s quantum information, they might well be indistinguishable from the legendary Deities.

”Forget those unlucky ones, even a Little Angel herself, if she now went to a primitive civilization planet where people eat raw meat and drink blood, she could probably pass for a deity.”

”Do we need to send someone to scout?”

”No, the Chaos Region is very dangerous; I wouldn’t risk my subordinates.”

Logically, Fang Zheng could have dispatched Vampires and other Destroyers to scout ahead, but he could feel that the deeper they went into the Chaos Zone, the weaker the power of Order became, which means more chaos. In such situations, sending someone to scout was akin to throwing them into the center of a Black Hole—what might happen is something even God perhaps wouldn’t know.

”So, what should we do?”

”Hmm...”

Faced with Nymph’s question, Fang Zheng revealed a confident smile.

”Nymph, do you know? There’s a saying that goes, the best offense... is defense.”

”...?”

Not only did Nymph not understand what Fang Zheng meant, but even Knight Commander Wells was completely baffled after hearing Fang Zheng’s words.

”I’m sorry, Your Excellency Fang Zheng, what exactly do you mean?”

”I believe, we should not limit ourselves to a single battlefield or target.”

After resting overnight, Fang Zheng returned to the command center, but this time, he was accompanied by not only Nymph but also Iona and Fumie Busei. Knight Commander Wells also appeared with his deputy, yet even then, they were surprised by Fang Zheng’s suggestion.

”For many years, it has always been us defending, and Demon Beasts attacking, but in my view, this is just too passive.

Fang Zheng extended his hand and tapped on the map and the red arrows representing the Demon Beasts.

”Now we have sufficient troops, and also powerful artillery support, then why... can’t we use the Northern Fortress as a starting point to reclaim the region that once was consumed and polluted by Chaos?”

”Huh?”

Upon hearing this, almost everyone was stunned, followed by Wells frowning.

”This...”

”My Crystal Tower can expand the coverage of Order. If we build Crystal Towers as we advance, we can confront the enemy in the safest manner in the shortest time. Not only that, we can also take the initiative to reclaim more Lands of Order! This way, the Northern Fortress will also have more room to maneuver, won’t it?”

”But, the longer we extend our battle lines, the more likely we are to encounter attacks from Demon Beasts...”

Towards Wells’ skepticism, Fang Zheng simply shrugged his shoulders and then pointed towards the sky above them. Seeing Fang Zheng’s gesture, Wells immediately shut his mouth... The deterrent effect of those steel behemoths lingering in the sky was still haunting his mind.

”But... about manpower.”

”Don’t worry about manpower.”

In the face of Wells’ question, Fang Zheng smiled and waved his hand, then he posed a question.

”Lord Wells... I don’t know if you’ve ever played a tower defense game?”
