Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 469: Chapter 468: The Best Tactic is the Mantis Stalking the Cicada, Unaware of the Oriole Behind

At this moment, those ”game balance disrupters” Fang Zheng mentioned were scurrying along with the crowd towards Fifth Street. They were like sewer rats, deathly afraid of attracting attention. After all, they had entered the Motherbody by ”illegal” means, and once the patrolling GMs caught them... a permanent ban would be their only fate.

As one can imagine, this was clearly not a player-friendly design for Earth OL’s gamers.

But cheating must be punished.

”Such foolish people...”

Walking along the busy street, watching the throng before him, the man in black sighed softly. These people didn’t realize they were merely the carriers of their own consciousness signals in the virtual world. Meanwhile, in the real world, their actual bodies were being used as bio-batteries by those terrifying machine creatures...

Yet they knew nothing about it.

With this thought, the man in black withdrew his gaze and nodded to his companions, then continued forward.

”Ring-a-ling...”

Just as the trio neared Fifth Street, suddenly the ringing of a public telephone booth erupted frantically. Hearing this sound, the group was momentarily stunned, then the leading man’s face turned pale with alarm.

”No good, we’ve been discovered! Hurry, get out of here!”

According to the hackers’ rules, if no accidents occurred, they would escape this world by answering the phone after reaching the public telephone booth. However, if their counterpart monitoring in the ”real world” discovered any ”special agents’” unusual activity in the data, they would immediately activate the emergency escape procedure, opening a port for their companions to leave.

Now, the sudden ringing of the phone signified the presence of special agents nearby!

In other words... the GMs were coming to capture the cheaters!

”Quick, move!!”

At this instant, the crowd no longer cared about the speeding vehicles or the congested people around them. They shoved aside those nearby and sprinted across the street corner towards the phone booth.

”Hey! You damn jerks!”

”Are you blind?”

Behind them, person after person they had pushed away shouted in anger, but the hackers didn’t waver, desperately rushing to the phone booth. Then the leading man in black burst into the booth and grabbed the handset to his ear. In theory, he should wake up in the real world the next moment, escaping the horrors of the virtual city, but...

”Hello, this is the post office, you have a package that has been detained by the police on suspicion of containing contraband...”

”......??”

What is this?

Hearing the authentic Northeastern accent of the London countryside English on the line, the man in black was utterly dumbfounded. He quickly hung up, and almost immediately, the telephone rang again.

”Ring-a-ling-a-ling...”

This time it has to let me go back, right?

Bearing this thought, the man picked up the handset again.

”Hello, big brother, I’m your son’s friend, your son had a car accident and is in the hospital now, he needs some money...”

”......What kind of crap is this!”

The man couldn’t wait to hang up again, and swiftly, the telephone rang once more.

”Hello, don’t you recognize me? I’m your former boss, about the money last time...”

”Click!”

”Your credit card has been disabled, please contact customer service...”

”Click!!”

”This is the Credit Service Center, we currently have storefronts available for rent, are you interested...”

”What the hell is all this crap!!”

This time, the man could no longer hold back and roared with rage, punching through the phone booth with a single blow. Then he took out his cell phone from his pocket, flipped it open, and held it to his ear.

”What the hell is going on?”

”I, I don’t know!”

And on the other side of the phone, their companions’ panicked voices came through.

”Someone’s hijacked the exit... No, it seems the exit has been completely blocked! You can’t use it to leave, you must find another exit!”

”Is it those damned bastards?”

”No, I’m not sure, it’s a very special method, I am looking for another exit... found it! In the third phone booth at Brooklyn Station!”

”Let’s go!”

Hearing this, the man in black didn’t hesitate to turn around with his companions and sprint towards the other side. They had already seen fully armed police officers heading their way. If they didn’t leave quickly, they might be shot on the spot. Although their bodies inside the Motherbody weren’t truly composed of flesh and blood, their brain signals would make them believe they exist ”for real.”

This meant that if they died in the virtual world, their brains would make them die in the real world as well.

At least that’s what they believed.

Rushing through Fifth Street, they quickly arrived at Brooklyn Subway Station. At this moment, there were not many people in the subway station, besides the security guards on duty, only a few drunkards and vagrants were curling up and napping in the corners. And on the platform, several passengers stood waiting for the next train.

”Watch your surroundings.”

The man in black whispered to his companions and then reached out, gripping the gun at his waist firmly. Those ”agents” could appear out of nowhere because they could inhabit any person nearby. As a result, they couldn’t really kill those ”agents,” only defeat the bodies they were inhabiting, buying some escape time while the ”agents” were being revived.

After all, no matter how tough a wall-hanger is, they still have to play it safe in front of a GM.

”Ding ling ling...”

At that moment, the phone rang again. Hearing the ringing, the man took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, then walked over to the public phone on the wall and picked up the receiver.

Hopefully, it wouldn’t be more nonsense this time!

Praying silently, the man reached for the receiver.

But just as he was about to bring the receiver to his ear, suddenly, a hand reached out from his side and pressed his head against the wall. The fragile receiver shattered under the immense pressure, its fragments embedding into the man’s head, while he widened his eyes and opened his mouth as if trying to say something. But the next moment, his head was crushed like a watermelon and smashed into the wall beside him.

All of this happened in the blink of an eye, and by the time the others reacted, the man’s head was already stuffed into the wall, with only his body convulsing like an electrocuted duck.

Next to him stood a man dressed in a black suit, wearing sunglasses, his hair combed back, looking like an FBI secret agent from the movies.

”Damn it, they’re here!!”

Seeing this agent, the rest of the group was shocked as if they had seen some beast and didn’t hesitate to raise their handguns, pulling the triggers. They fired frantically at the target. Usually, with such a close-range attack against several handguns, a normal person had no choice but to dodge. But this agent was obviously not an ordinary person, he dashed forward at a speed several times faster than the average human and punched another man who was shooting at him squarely in the chest. With that punch, the man was sent flying into the air like a kite, tumbling five or six times before crashing into a wall on the other side, then falling down with a wail.

Having sent that man flying with one punch, the agent immediately turned again and grabbed the gun from another man’s hand... and then, astonishingly, he crushed the gun along with the man’s hand!

”Ah ah ah!”

The intense pain caused the man to scream instantly, but soon after, the agent struck him hard on the head with another punch, flattening him to the ground.

In just a moment, the three ”illegal intruders” were completely subdued. The agent then stood quietly in place, looking at the unconscious ”intruders,” seemingly pondering something, then he reached out...

”Clap... clap... clap...”

But at that moment, a round of applause sounded. The agent looked up towards the source. He saw Fang Zheng smiling and clapping as he walked down the subway entrance steps.

”Quite a performance, hmm... I admit the movies on the big screen are exhilarating, but being in the thick of it is truly an experience.”

”Who are you?”

The agent stood up, eyeing Fang Zheng warily, then asked in a deep voice. Hearing his question, Fang Zheng smiled slightly.

”I’m the man here to kill you... Mr. Smith.”
