Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 476: Chapter 475 It’s All Just a Game

”When you were watching these recordings, didn’t you have any doubts?”

Fang Zheng walked slowly in front of the wall of televisions with his hands clasped behind his back, like a teacher giving a lecture to his students, gazing at the protagonists before him.

”Didn’t you find anything abnormal at all? Do you think everything these robots do is reasonable? Understandable?”

”Isn’t it?”

Upon hearing this, Trinity couldn’t help but ask, and Fang Zheng just shrugged his shoulders.

”Of course not... The very fact that you think all this is reasonable precisely proves that it’s all unreasonable.”

”I... I don’t understand.”

At this point, Neo spoke up too, looking blankly at the television. As the ”Savior,” he had certainly seen these images before; they were the core secrets stored in Zion’s main database, and the reason why humans had begun their struggle against the robots. Although what had happened was in the past, you can’t just pretend it never happened!

”Is there... something wrong with these records?”

”Of course.”

As he said this, Fang Zheng suddenly punched one of the televisions, and with a ”bang”, one of the TVs exploded instantly. Witnessing this, everyone was baffled, not knowing what Fang Zheng was up to. Fang Zheng then withdrew his fist from the wreckage of the television and looked at the protagonists again.

”Okay, I just smashed a television, now tell me, will this TV cry? Or scream? Or feel pain? Robots are essentially household appliances just like this. When humans get hit, we feel pain; when our limbs are cut off, we suffer. Do robots do the same? No, they don’t have such reactions. Do you expect a refrigerator to tell you ’Close the door gently, you’re hurting me’? Hmm? What naive era are you living in?”

”This...”

Facing Fang Zheng’s remarks, everyone fell silent for a moment. Indeed, they hadn’t thought there was anything wrong with what he had just done. But now, thinking carefully, those scenes did seem somewhat illogical.

”Furthermore, would a court actually file a case against a robot for committing murder, even sentencing it to death? Don’t you find that laughable? It might be a different story if those robots were completely realistic, humanoid robots. But you saw what those things looked like - tin heads, not even equipped with vocal organs. What right does such a thing have to stand trial?”

At this, Fang Zheng snorted lightly.

”If a meat grinder accidentally kills someone due to a misoperation, do we put the meat grinder on trial in court? Or do we just dismantle and scrap the machine? Likewise, the notion of robots pursuing freedom is even more ludicrous. A life form seeks freedom because it is an independent living entity, but does your car desire freedom? And even conceding that there might be something wrong with the robots’ logic circuits, causing them to lose control, so what?”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng looked at Neo.

”Neo, you were a software engineer. Now tell me, when compiling an operating system, wouldn’t the developers leave behind low-level control instructions? Wouldn’t they set up countermeasures for emergency situations just in case? If that’s not the case, then I think humanity deserves to be wiped out, don’t you think?”

”Uh...”

This time even Neo was at a loss for words. Just as Fang Zheng had said, he himself was an outstanding hacker within the Motherbody and certainly understood these principles.

”So that’s what I’m saying, some people just lack creativity, and yet dare to call themselves creators.”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng cast a disdainful glance at the white-haired old man sitting motionlessly in the chair.

”Don’t think that by turning slaves into robots you can just sell them anywhere; not everyone falls for that trick.”

”Why?”

It was at this time that Neo finally spoke up again, asking his question.

”Even if these records are fake... why? Why would he do this?”

But this time, Fang Zheng didn’t immediately answer Neo’s question. Instead, he looked at the protagonist with a smirk that was not quite a smile.

”Ever played a game?”

”This...”

Neo had not expected Fang Zheng to ask such an unrelated question at this time, but after hesitating a bit, he nodded his head.

”I have.”

”Then you should know that when you start a game, the first things to appear are the opening sequences and cutscenes, right? They introduce your identity, the world you’re in, and what you’re supposed to do.”

At this, Fang Zheng tapped the television beside him.

”So now... do you understand?”

”...”

This time, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus didn’t speak; their eyes grew wider and wider, their breathing more and more rapid. Finally, it was Neo who swallowed hard, as if he had thought of something difficult to say.

”You, you mean... ...”

”That’s right, congratulations, you’ve finally realized the truth.”

”This is impossible!!”

But at that moment, Morpheus roared, interrupting Fang Zheng’s speech, his fists clenched tightly, his body trembling uncontrollably.

”You’re lying! Lying! If everything you’re saying is true, then, then our world, our world... ...”

”Yes, your so-called real world is nothing more than a high-difficulty game map.”

At this point, Fang Zheng turned his head to look at the white-bearded old man pretending to be dead beside him.

”Am I right, Creator, sir?”

”..................”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, everyone’s hearts jumped, and they looked at the Creator, waiting for his answer. Fang Zheng, on the other hand, stood by with a grin, not uttering a word.

To be honest, Fang Zheng had similar thoughts while watching the movie. The reason was simple, according to the Creator, Zion had already been rebuilt five times. But not a single person knew that there had been five Saviors before Neo, what does that imply? Even if the Mechanical Squids were that amazing, to kill everyone, wouldn’t these people choose to leave some trace or message of their existence through some means?

And what if, in one instance, someone decided to go for self-detonation?

That brings us to the question.

How do you clean up the stray junk files in the system?

The answer: Formatting and reinstallation will cure all rebellion!

”.............”

And facing everyone’s gaze, the Creator did not immediately answer. He was silent for a long time before finally looking at Fang Zheng.

”Is this your purpose for coming here?”

”That’s right, your actions and those of the Prophet have already had a significant impact on the Motherbody. If this goes unchecked, it won’t be good... You should understand what I am saying, NPC.”

Here, Fang Zheng narrowed his eyes.

”You are just a program, don’t think that by studying the possibilities of humans, you can get what you want. Programs are meant to run according to set rules; I most dislike those codes that keep throwing loop errors at me!”

Before his words were finished, Fang Zheng’s right hand flipped over, he reached forward, and with a ”puchi” sound, the Longsword penetrated the Creator’s body in an instant. Quickly, the old man’s body began shaking, and the texture maps on the surface of his skin started peeling off rapidly, revealing the core made up of countless lines of code and structural design.

Then, in everyone’s eyes, the codes began to be quickly deleted, and the old man’s body likewise vanished, leaving no trace after some time.

”.............”

This time, no one spoke; all bore complex expressions as they looked toward where the Creator had disappeared, seemingly still in shock.

”Well, my mission is half complete, and the rest... is almost wrapped up.”

With that, Fang Zheng sheathed the Longsword and turned to the three main characters with a slight smile.

”Well then, I’ll be seeing you.”

”Boom!!”

As Fang Zheng’s words fell, the trio felt a sudden gust sweep over them, whisking them away, and the next moment when they opened their eyes, they were already standing on a deserted, dilapidated street with no one around.

”..........”

An awkward silence emerged gradually. Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus looked at each other, not knowing what to say. Especially Morpheus, he could not believe this truth... ...

Everything is a lie? Both this world and the real world, are they both virtual?

Then, what he had believed before, what was it?

What should he believe now?
