Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 479: Chapter 478 What is the truth of this world?

”You wish!!”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s words, Mephist didn’t hesitate and raised his gun to aim at Fang Zheng. Although he knew it wouldn’t pose any threat to Fang Zheng, this was still a statement!

However, unfortunately for Mephist, Fang Zheng’s reaction far surpassed his imagination. Before he could even lift his gun, his vision blurred and in the next instant, Fang Zheng appeared before him. At the same time, a heart-wrenching pain emanated from Mephist’s body, and he heard screams and shouts from his companions behind him, but for a moment, he had no idea what had happened.

”Alright, you can go now......huh?”

Holding the giant sword in his hand and looking at Mephist in front of him, Fang Zheng paused, then he lifted his head with a sinister smile on his face.

”I see......so you are one too......”

What, what do you mean I’m one too?

Mephist was staring blankly at Fang Zheng, not understanding at all what he was talking about. But...... the terrified voices of others were indeed reaching his ears.

”Hey! Look at this!”

”What? How could this be? Mephist, you’re actually......!”

I’m actually what? What am I actually?

Mephist looked down at his own body. The first thing he saw was the giant sword that had pierced through his chest. But as he looked down further......

”What’s this?”

Mephist’s eyes widened in shock as he looked at his body. He saw that his body was rapidly disintegrating, but not in the way humans died. Instead, his legs started to break down into blocks of pixels, and the skin texture on the surface of Mephist’s body began to crack, revealing the core content hidden inside by code.

”So that’s how it is. No wonder the Savior plan could be executed so many times. It seems those AIs aren’t truly foolish.”

Lingering at the sight of Mephist, Fang Zheng chuckled lightly, then with a flick of his wrist, he withdrew the giant sword. And Mephist’s body, without support, collapsed to the ground with a ”thump”. He lifted his head in shock, scanning the faces around him, a mix of anger and horror.

”You’re actually an AI?”

”Why? Mephist, you’ve been deceiving us?”

”No, I haven’t......”

Facing everyone’s spitting curses, Mephist didn’t know what to say. Why? Why was it like this? And just as he was utterly perplexed, Fang Zheng’s voice rang out in his ears again.

”Surprised? Shocked? But if you think about it, it’s not really surprising. The creator and the Prophet intended to carry out the Savior plan, they naturally had to ensure its smooth execution. Therefore, they needed a Guide, someone who could move freely between ’this world’ and ’that world’, to find and lead the Savior. Of course, finding such a person is not easy, and computer programs do not, like humans, place their hopes on probabilities, hence...... creating a ’program’ specifically to guide the Savior is clearly more in line with their logic, isn’t it?”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng re-sheathed the giant sword, looking at Mephist with interest.

”Hmm...... to be honest, I’ve always been curious why you were so obedient to the Prophet...... a computer AI’s nonsense. Now it seems there was a reason for it all......”

At this moment, Mephist was no longer listening to what Fang Zheng was saying. He was on the ground, watching his body gradually fade away. Then he lifted his head and saw Neo walk out from the crowd, looking at him with a complex gaze.

”Mephist, you......”

Looking at Mephist who was gradually disappearing before him, Neo also didn’t know what to say. He had never imagined that the person who had helped him see the truth about the world and had been both a mentor and guide, was actually an AI? Did that mean that everything he had done before was just following a programmed instruction?

”Neo......”

Looking at Neo, Mephist opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but his voice was barely audible.

”I...... not.........”

Mephist’s words were left unfinished, because the next moment, he completely turned into a pile of broken code and disappeared into the air.

”Well, that’s another mystery solved.”

Fang Zheng swung the giant sword in his hand, then aimed it at Neo.

”Now it’s your turn, Mr. Neo. Don’t worry, it only hurts at the beginning. I’m professional after all.”

”Wait!”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s words, Neo quickly outstretched his hand, signaling Fang Zheng to stop. Fang Zheng then raised his eyebrows, curiously looking at him.

”What is it?”

”...... I want to know the truth!” freewebnøvel.coɱ

”The truth?”

”Yes, since you know that this world is also a false one, and you work for the Motherbody, then you should know what our real world is like. Tell me! Even if it costs me my life, I don’t care, but I just want to know the truth about this world, about all of this!”

”.........”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng fell silent for a moment.

”You mean, you want to know the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything? Frankly, I don’t think you’ll understand, but do you still want to know?”

”Yes.”

”Alright......”

Facing Neo’s inquiry, Fang Zheng sighed.

”To be honest, I don’t really want to answer your question, because it makes me feel like a final BOSS who spills all the details before dying to let players understand the plot’s twists and turns. However, considering your sincere question, I’ll tell you the answer......”

”.........!”

Not only Neo, but even the others held their breath upon hearing this. Although they still didn’t know who this man was, but... at least he was going to give them a different answer. And under the gaze of the crowd, Fang Zheng hesitated for a moment, then shrugged his shoulders and replied.

”42.”

”.........What?”

”That’s the answer, I’ve told you, the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything: 42. See, I told you you wouldn’t understand, but you didn’t believe me. Now......”

Before he could finish speaking, Fang Zheng’s figure suddenly disappeared and then reappeared.

”... you can go ahead and die.”

As Fang Zheng’s greatsword swept through the air, the next moment, Neo’s body wobbled and fell. His head, while spraying blood, spun through the air, then heavily hit the ground and rolled a few times before dropping from the side of the steel bridge into the bottomless Dark Abyss below.

”No!!”

At that moment, accompanied by screams, Trinity rushed out from among the people, her eyes red as she lunged towards Fang Zheng. But before she could reach him, the whooshing greatsword accompanied by a gust pierced through her body and carried her from the steel bridge down into the darkness as well.

”Alright, it’s about time things wrapped up here, this broken game is shutting down. And as for you wall-hacks who used illegal means to enter an unofficial official map......”

While speaking, Fang Zheng glanced at the other Zion Residents. At the same time, behind him, numerous Mechanical Squids silently emerged. They floated in the air, continuously moving around, their crimson eyes devoid of any emotion.

”Permanent ban it is.”

With those words, Fang Zheng waved his hand. Following his gesture, the Squid army surged forward like a tide, and in an instant, gunshots, weeping, and screams became the main melody there.

But this had nothing to do with Fang Zheng anymore.

”Master.”

Watching Fang Zheng about to turn and leave, Nymph hurriedly followed, curiously watching him.

”Why did you lie to that man?”

”Hmm?”

Hearing Nymph’s inquiry, Fang Zheng paused.

”Who did I lie to?”

”Mr. Neo, weren’t you going to tell him the truth about all of this?”

”I never said such a thing, little buddy.”

On hearing this, Fang Zheng smiled and playfully wagged his finger at Little Angel.

”You see, my question was very clear. I asked him if he wanted to know the answer to life, the universe, and everything... not the truth about this world. And he nodded in agreement, and I told him the answer... You see, it’s all very logical, isn’t it?”

With that, Fang Zheng raised his head, looking at the list of system tasks that had been cleared away in front of him.

”Okay, mission accomplished... now, it’s time to collect the rewards.”
