Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 488: Chapter 487: Who is Calling the Fleet? (Part 2)

”It seems that Bishop Carl wasn’t talking nonsense; this fortress really is short on hands.”

Looking at the battle before him, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but furrow his brow. He could see clearly that after a demon beast lord had collapsed the wall with a light cannon, the first response of the people elsewhere was to rush to help. This was perfectly normal, after all, if the breach were not filled, then the demon beasts could charge in directly through it, rendering the other walls useless.

But the problem is... they’re short on hands.

According to Fang Zheng’s observations, the garrison at the Northern Fortress and those demon beasts were maintaining a fragile balance. This meant that the current troop numbers could just barely defend the walls, and if they were to reduce their numbers further, other places would be breached as well. Therefore, they couldn’t afford to leave for the breach to provide support and had to continue fighting the demon creatures on the battlements.

Fortunately, Natsuse and Midori reacted quickly, managing to block the demon creatures that were pouring into the gap, barely maintaining the balance of the entire defensive line. Otherwise, the complete collapse of the first defensive line would have just been a matter of time. From this perspective, the earlier concerns of Knight Commander Wells weren’t an exaggeration. Rather than waiting for the first defensive line to completely fall, it might be better to preserve manpower at the main base and fight a desperate battle against the enemy...

However, according to Fang Zheng’s experience, it’s generally the villain bosses who do this... and they all end up failing in the end.

But this alone is not enough...

With this thought, Fang Zheng raised his right hand and drew out the vampire from the void, looking toward the pitch-black land ahead. And over the land shrouded by countless Chaos monsters.

Taking this opportunity, Fang Zheng also carefully observed the attack patterns of these Chaos monsters. He found that they acted almost entirely on instinct—it’s like playing a game by circling a zerg force and then issuing the F2A command, leaving life and death to fate. Where and how the zerg would attack was completely up to the AI’s abilities and luck. Right now, these Chaos monsters seemed to have this same notion. Evidence of this was seen after the demon beast lord blew a hole in the wall, any slightly intelligent race would have immediately chosen to launch a fierce attack there.

But these Chaos monsters seemed like their brains were removed, fixating only on the enemies before them. If it hadn’t been for Natsuse and Fumie Busei drawing the attention of some of the Chaos monsters with the grandeur of their intervention, these creatures might not have cared about such ”tactical actions”. But given their seemingly inexhaustible numbers, they might not need to...

It was time for him to make a move.

Fang Zheng looked at the longsword in his hand, then the corners of his mouth slightly curled up, and he raised the longsword. As he did so, time around him began to slow and then—in an instant—it stopped.

Second Sword.

Dazzling and bright, like the birth of the world itself, lightning brilliance enveloped the entire battlefield in that instant, turning the once pitch-black land completely under the cover of thunder, becoming a sea of light. Countless Chaos monsters were turned to ash under the onslaught of the thunder, their shining remains so intense that even the soldiers on the wall had to turn their heads and shield their eyes with their hands.

”Phew...”

Lowering the longsword in his hand, Fang Zheng let out a breath and looked out to see that almost all of the demon creatures on the other side of the horizon had been utterly destroyed in the surging tides of lightning. They stood carbonized, as if petrified, on the ground. But the next moment, with a slight breeze, these charred monsters crumbled into fragments and soon completely turned to ash and disappeared into the air.

”Really, fighting in a place like this is tough.”

Watching warily into the distance, Fang Zheng couldn’t help shaking his head. Although he had heard Bishop Carl and Shi Dong talking about the rumors surrounding the Order Boundary, it wasn’t until he experienced it personally that Fang Zheng realized why the Paladins found it so difficult to resist the Chaos monsters.

To make a comparison, in the world of order, using a skill felt like he was on a 5G network to Fang Zheng, instantly casting and instantly receiving without delay. But here at the Twilight Border, it felt like his ”signal” was severely interfered with. Forget a 5G standard, even 3G seemed hard to achieve.

The farther away from the boundary of the Northern Fortress, the more unstable Fang Zheng felt his powers become. Whether it was the Second Sword with its chain lightning or Fang Zheng’s own ability to manipulate time, it all began to lose coherence, as if his connection dropped from WIFI to 2G in an instant, and even ”disconnected”!

No wonder the Northern Fortress had only been able to passively defend this place for so many years – it turns out it was due to the inadequate development of the fundamental order network.

Just as this thought crossed Fang Zheng’s mind, he saw a light beam shooting from a distance, passing through his body and striking the ground. Fang Zheng’s body was completely blown into fragments by the strike of the light beam, but the next moment, he reappeared at the city wall.

”This thing actually knows how to ambush... not so dumb after all...”

As if in response to Fang Zheng’s comment, an angry and unwilling roar from the demon beast lord came from the distance. But regardless, at the very least, the crisis facing the defensive line had been temporarily averted.

”Phew...”

Seeing the demon beasts completely annihilated, both the soldiers and Holy Knights on the wall finally breathed a sigh of relief. They laid down their weapons and showed expressions of having survived a calamity. In fact, most of them had no idea what just happened, but they were sure that someone had come to their aid!

”This...”

At this moment, on the tower of the fortress headquarters in the rear, Knight Commander Wells also witnessed that heart-shaking scene. Compared to the others, he knew all too well where that formidable power had come from... It was a power that only a Legendary Powerhouse was qualified to use!

That young man, is he actually a legendary powerhouse?

With this thought, Knight Commander Wells also felt it somewhat incredulous. Although he had only exchanged a few words with Fang Zheng, he could tell that the latter was not very old. Yet, he possessed such strength; no wonder he had confidently assured that he could defend the first line of defense. Now it seemed that the young man had not been boasting!

And now, was the opportunity!

These thoughts flashed through Knight Commander Wells’s mind like lightning. He didn’t even have time to marvel at when the Kingdom of the Holy Church had produced such an outstanding young person, because the demon creatures had already been wiped out, and this was the perfect time for them to defend the Northern Fortress!

”Quick, send the signal immediately, order everyone to set out at once, and repair the defenses for the defense line! Hurry!!”

Accompanied by Knight Commander Wells’s loud roar, a mage beside him immediately raised his magic wand and shot three light orbs into the high sky. Seeing the signal, the paladins, already in tight formation, hurriedly set out toward the distant defense line.

But the speed of the chaos monsters was faster.

Although Fang Zheng’s Second Sword had instantly cleared all chaos monsters from the battlefield in front of the Order Fortress, before long, more chaos monsters surged from the distant horizon. Furthermore, the massive Demon Beast Lord was also among them, clearly unwilling to wait any longer.

”Everyone, take up arms, prepare for battle!!”

Seeing the chaos beasts attack again, a squad leader raised his longsword and bellowed loudly. He looked back at the three light orbs in the night sky, shining as bright as illumination shells, then turned around.

”Reinforcements from behind will soon arrive. Until then, even if it costs your life, you must hold this position!!”

”Oh—————!!”

Hearing these words, the soldiers on the city walls also burst into cheers. If they had been weary before, they now once again possessed the power and courage to fight.

”I, I must continue to fight as well...”

While speaking, the paladin who had fallen off the city wall also gripped his sword and stood up again. But as he was about to step forward, the twin-tailed girl appeared in front of him once more.

”You don’t need to push yourself so hard, uncle. You haven’t yet recovered from your injuries.”

”Thank you, kid.”

Looking at the twin-tailed girl before him, the paladin smiled and nodded at her.

”I don’t know who you are, but thank you for saving me. However, I am a paladin, and sacrificing myself for the sake of order is my destiny. Even in death, I will never flee...”

”No, no, no, uncle!”

But before the paladin could finish, the twin-tailed girl shook her head vigorously, interrupting him.

”Dying needlessly isn’t good, and you guys don’t need to be so desperate, we are here too! And, our companions will also be arriving shortly.”

”Companions?”

”Yes!”

Hearing the paladin’s puzzled question, the twin-tailed girl giggled and then pointed beside the paladin.

”Look!”

”?”

Following the direction the twin-tailed girl was pointing, the paladin turned his head in confusion—then, his eyes widened in surprise.
