Naruto: Becoming the Soul King

Kakashi also walked over, a sharp, competitive glint flashing in his eyes as he said to Seiryū, ”I’m also really looking forward to the practical combat class this afternoon, Seiryū.”

The Uchiha Clan is never inferior to others throughout their lives, but Obito definitely isn’t among them.

And he, Kakashi, had never thought he was inferior to anyone before entering the Ninja Academy.

Then he met Seiryū, was constantly suppressed by him, and became the perennial second place.

He had also lost to Seiryū in the final exam last semester.

He felt unwilling.

There was only one thought in his heart — to defeat Seiryū and graduate early!

Yes, Kakashi definitely intended to graduate early, but not as the runner-up.

He needed to snatch the first-place spot from Seiryū!

To this end, he had been training hard. He couldn’t keep being the runner-up forever!

In response to Kakashi’s words, Seiryū only gave a faint smile, full of confidence. ”One by one, I don’t mind. Whether it’s one fight, two, three, four, or five, it’s all the same.”

Kakashi said calmly, ”I’ll be waiting for you at the end of the practical combat.”

Seiryū nodded. ”No problem.”

This had happened several times already. He suspected Oda had rigged something.

They always ended up as the last two standing in practical combat class. He figured this time wouldn’t be any different either...

”Damn it!”

Obito immediately gritted his teeth upon seeing the two opponents he most wanted to defeat ignore him.

Once again, he shouted, ”Don’t get too smug! As soon as I awaken my Sharingan, you definitely won’t be my opponents!”

Seiryū shrugged. ”Well then, have you awakened your Sharingan yet?”

Kakashi glanced sideways at Obito and ignored him. He had heard those same words too many times.

”...”

Obito fell silent.

Why bring up such a painful subject? How could the Sharingan be so easy to awaken?

He had tried all kinds of methods, but there was still no sign of it activating.

It was too difficult, even harder than the Great Fireball Technique!

Even though he couldn’t do it now, he definitely would in the future.

The Uchiha Clan is never inferior to others throughout their lives, and the Sharingan is the Uchiha Clan’s greatest trump card!

Once awakened, it would be a qualitative leap in power!

Guy, listening to his friends, could no longer suppress the hot blood of youth in his heart. He excitedly gave a thumbs-up. ”This is youth! Seiryū, I want to challenge you too! I’ll go all out! Let’s have a Taijutsu showdown!!”

Seiryū: ”...”

He gave up completely. ”Fine, whoever it is, I won’t refuse anyone!”

”...”

The boys’ desire to win was something the girls couldn’t understand, or at least Kurenai and Rin didn’t.

Fortunately, this wasn’t the first time they had seen this happen.

They were already somewhat used to it.

Seiryū won every time...

Meanwhile, Shizune, who hadn’t yet integrated into the group, tilted her head and blinked, silently observing.

She found the scene quite interesting.

Seiryū seemed really amazing, since so many people wanted to challenge him!

’Seiryū is going to steal the spotlight again...’

Kurenai sighed softly in her heart. Every time they had a practical lesson or combat class, Seiryū would end up stealing the show, attracting a large group of girls to flock around him.

She felt helpless and found those girls annoying. She couldn’t even shoo them away!

”Huh? Asuma, aren’t you going to challenge Seiryū this time?”

Kurenai noticed Asuma, who was sitting two desks ahead and hadn’t spoken. This guy used to challenge Seiryū often, didn’t he?

Why was he so quiet this time?

Had he been discouraged?

Hearing Kurenai’s words, Asuma simply shook his head and said calmly, ”I’ve passed the age of seeking rivalry. I don’t want to engage in this kind of childish playtime...”

That was a lie.

In reality, he had received shocking news from his father, the Third Hokage.

His father’s evaluation of Seiryū was, he probably already possessed the strength of a Chunin!

Especially since he also knew that Seiryū had learned Rasengan, an A-rank, hand-sign-less ninjutsu.

This jutsu seemed to have been developed and perfected by Seiryū together with Minato and Jiraiya...

Possessing Chunin-level strength at age six, and participating in the development and perfection of the Rasengan, an A-rank, hand-sign-less jutsu.

How were the other Ninja Academy students supposed to compete with that?

Forget it!

Just give up already!

Anyway, he wasn’t planning to challenge Seiryū for now. Maybe later. Definitely next time...

Of course, he wasn’t scared. He was just temporarily avoiding the spotlight. Once he learned an A-rank jutsu too, he would settle the score!

Right now... well, he had passed the age of rivalry...

Kurenai: ”...”

Everyone else: ”...”

As expected of the Hokage’s son. The elite education truly let him spin admitting defeat in such a classy way.

It really broadened their horizons...

’Did I really pass the novice phase? The system hasn’t issued a single mission...’

The continuous challenges from his peers hadn’t triggered a single ’ding’ from the System, making Seiryū increasingly certain that his guess was correct.

He had passed the novice phase...

A reasonable deduction.

His current strength was too far ahead.

He had already surpassed the average level of the Ninja Academy (Shin’ō Academy). Seiryū was confident he could knock out even the genius Kakashi (the commoner genius Hatano Manishi) with one punch...

He had also obtained the Low-Rank Hadō Compendium and the Low-Rank Bakudō Compendium.

Low-rank Kidō might be the highest level taught at Shin’ō Academy.

After all, the Shin’ō Academy was only a place to train students. Kidō of excessive difficulty wouldn’t be taught.

Just like how the graduation requirement at the Ninja Academy is mastering the Three Basic Jutsu. It’s impossible to use B-rank or A-rank techniques as the standard. That would be far too hard.

Higher-level Kidō probably required becoming an ”official member” of the ”Gotei 13” to even gain access...

Moreover, Seiryū had already gained deep insights into the Four Basic Techniques of Zankensoki.

In the three basic techniques of hand-to-hand combat, Shunpo, and Kidō, he was already extremely proficient. No one in the academy could surpass him.

Although swordsmanship was still at the basic level, it couldn’t be considered weak either.

Aside from Kakashi, the others were far behind in this area too.

If not for the unreliability of the System, which caused the passage of time to be inconsistent,

Calculating the time... he had already been a student at the ”Shin’ō Academy” for nearly a year. He possessed the strength to graduate early.

The System might have determined that his strength was sufficient, and ordinary combat situations were no longer enough to trigger missions...

He needed to leave the novice area!

The mission to apply for graduation from the Shin’ō Academy within one year, with a reward of the relatively high-level Hadō #63: Raikōhō, was enough to prove one thing.

The System wanted to push him out of the novice zone as quickly as possible through these rewards.

To undergo more trials, and gradually rise to become the Soul King.

To ultimately become the cornerstone that maintains the balance of the Three Realms, bringing peace to their inhabitants, and fulfilling the great cause of benefitting the Three Realms...

Bringing up this unfinished mission, Seiryū mentally pinged the System: ’System, how many days are left until the deadline for the mission to apply for Shin’ō Academy graduation within one year?’

[Ding! There are 1234 days remaining until the mission deadline. Please, Host, do not slack off and complete the mission as soon as possible!]

Seiryū thought to himself: ’So abstract. The number changes every time I ask.’

’Whatever, there’s no rush to finish the mission. Besides, with my current chakra reserves, I probably can’t use high-level Kidō anyway.’

’What I need most is for my body to finish developing...’
