System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

November 1st, Sunday, eight o’clock in the morning.

In the emergency department, Lin Qianlong felt relieved after seeing Du Qiang, stood up and began to introduce, ”Director Du is here, everyone, let’s give him a warm welcome!”

Lu Cheng and the others were also courteous enough to clap continuously.

Du Qiang glanced around at everyone and said amiably, ”Director Lin, you’re too kind. I can see that everyone is reluctant to see you leave.”

”Well, I’m just here to pick the fruits that the hospital arranged for me.”

On Sundays, there shouldn’t be too many people in the emergency department, but at this moment, Zhang Tiesheng and Zeng Huanqi are all present. After all, a new director is reporting in, the necessary respect must be shown.

Lin Qianlong smiled and said, ”Director Du, you’re too modest. There’s nothing here for you to pick. The emergency department isn’t quite like the general surgery department you were in before.”

”Let me introduce the colleagues in the department to you. Over in internal medicine is Director Huang Haibo.”

”But there’s a digestive tract bleed in the intensive care unit right now, and they’re in the middle of a rescue, so Director Huang and his team can’t make it.”

”This is Deputy Director Doctor Zhang Tiesheng, then there’s Attending Physician Zeng Huanqi, Lu Cheng, Tian Zhuang...”

After briefly introducing everyone, Lin Qianlong added, ”Director Du, I’ve already packed up my personal belongings in the director’s office, what’s left are the department’s public items. If you need anything, just let Head Nurse know.”

Head Nurse Peng Ping also quickly said, ”Director Du, I hope we can cooperate happily in the future.”

Peng Ping also didn’t want Lin Qianlong to leave, but she could not force him to stay due to his personal considerations.

Lin Qianlong said, ”Three parts treatment, seven parts care. The emergency department definitely cannot do without the care team led by you, Head Nurse.”

”Director Lin, you probably aren’t in a rush to leave, are you? At noon today, I plan to organize a farewell with the colleagues in the department for you.”

Lin Qianlong waved his hand, ”No need, no need. I’m not far from Feng County, and there are a lot of issues to handle over there.”

”There’s plenty of opportunity in the future... Hmm, the upcoming work will be officially handed over to you, Director Du. Other departmental matters will be thoroughly reported to you by Deputy Director Zhang Tiesheng.”

”I won’t disturb everyone’s work anymore, others still have their shifts.”

”Director Du, everyone, there’s still a chance for us to drink together in the future. I’m staying at the old place.”

”...”

After Lin Qianlong left, Vice President Zeng Long’an formally entered the emergency department to announce on behalf of the hospital that Du Qiang is taking over the position of emergency department director.

After some pleasantries, Du Qiang accompanied Vice President Zeng Long’an out.

”Du Daihua, you’re on the schedule for the emergency clinic, go take your shift!”

”The emergency clinic can’t be left unattended, to prevent any unnecessary trouble from being reported,” Du Qiang said.

Du Daihua stood up to leave, ”Okay, Director Du.”

Du Qiang then said, ”Everyone else, please take a seat. Let me first announce the surgical duty arrangements for this month.”

”In our department, some people rely on their talents and are unwilling to do regular shifts. Even though Director Lin did the handover, I shouldn’t interfere.”

”But I must emphasize, if you want to be on duty for emergency surgeries, then you’d better handle it well, don’t mess things up!”

”We’re all adults here, whoever has a problem while on duty has to take responsibility.”

”You’re all experienced doctors, don’t give me the excuse of being young and irresponsible,” Du Qiang didn’t directly mention Lu Cheng, but everyone knew he was referring to him.

When they heard Du Qiang being so openly critical of Lu Cheng, everyone exchanged glances.

Not everyone knew about the ’arrangement’ between Lu Cheng and Du Qiang. Not even Zhang Tiesheng could fully grasp Du Qiang’s ’cunning schemes’!

For instance, Du Daihua and the others could only see that Lu Cheng had offended Du Qiang, and now that Du Qiang was in the emergency department, the new official had to establish authority quickly, targeting Lu Cheng.

Du Qiang threw down the gauntlet, and Lu Cheng couldn’t just let it go, ”Director Du, I’ll do my job well!”

”But I still have to say upfront, I’m just an attending, and even if I’m on emergency shifts, for cases I can’t manage, I’ll still consult a superior.”

”Whether you want to come or not is your business, I must seek guidance.”

Du Qiang replied, ”That depends on how you consult. If you need consultation for trivial cases, why aren’t you participating in regular shifts?”

”Even Zhang Tiesheng, a deputy director, has to take shifts, why do you get special treatment?”

”Enjoying privileges, doing the same things as he does, why should you? Can good looks cure patients? Can good looks stop patients from complaining?”

”How many heads do you have?”

Du Qiang slapped the table at this point, ”Regardless of what Director Lin’s attitude was before, my point is that everyone should do their job and find their proper place.”

”Don’t try to play special treatment games in front of me. How capable do you think you are to warrant that in the county hospital?”

”You can opt out! Go ahead and apply for a transfer directly, don’t pretend to be something you’re not in front of me.”

”Since you decided to stand out, you better show your true skills!”

”Waiting for others to clean up your mess, just how well-connected are you?”

After Du Qiang’s sarcastic remarks, Lu Cheng wanted to speak up, but Du Qiang interrupted him, ”Lu Cheng, there’s no need to say more, things have been decided just like that.”

”Do your shifts properly, and nothing will happen. If anything goes wrong, you’ll be the first one I deal with!”
