System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Mu Nanshu lowered her head, and her tone suddenly became a bit aggrieved: ”I don’t dare anymore.”

Actually, Mu Nanshu’s tone wasn’t really aggrieved; it was just low, gloomy, and melancholic...

Lu Cheng put down his chopsticks and decisively grabbed Mu Nanshu’s hand to stand up: ”Let’s go, we’ll go send off the luggage first.”

Mu Nanshu silently followed Lu Cheng’s hand all the way out the door, being led with vacant eyes.

Suggestions, Mu Nanshu really used to make them.

But she regretted them too.

”After all these years, haven’t you gotten over it yet?” Lu Cheng asked soothingly after they had walked several hundred meters out the door.

Mu Nanshu just rubbed her eyes, her expression becoming a bit pale.

”The ancients said, ’When Heaven is about to place a great responsibility on a person, it first frustrates his spirit and exhausts his muscles...’”

”This saying might not be true, but we can use it to comfort ourselves. I even think it’s quite true.”

”Because I am lucky.”

When Mu Nanshu heard this, she raised her head, puzzled: ”You’re lucky?”

”Because of me, Huashan Hospital didn’t want you, and Zhongnan Hospital targeted you. You still think you’re lucky?”

”There’s no targeting,” Lu Cheng refuted.

”Yes, there is!”

”I’m not a child anymore; I can find things out for myself.” Mu Nanshu insisted on her view.

”I’ve realized some of your words can’t be fully believed, at least not without reservation.”

”I don’t know, there’s just none,” Lu Cheng replied.

”Stop thinking about the past. Don’t you think I’m lucky? You’re a PhD returnee from abroad, a Deputy Researcher at Union Hospital.”

”I’m just a small attending physician at Long County People’s Hospital, but I’ve met someone who understands me.”

”Aren’t I lucky?”

”These things written in a novel would be called cliché.”

Actually, Lu Cheng’s words were meant to be sarcastic. According to his imagined scenario, he even thought if he met Mu Nanshu again, ideally Mu Nanshu would mock him a bit, and that would be an ultimate classic.

Fortunately, Mu Nanshu didn’t.

And when Mu Nanshu was investigating Lu Cheng, she also secretly found Mu Leng to inquire about Mu Nanshu’s overseas affairs. Although she didn’t know everything in detail, she understood that during that time abroad, Mu Nanshu really had a hard time.

She wholeheartedly focused on her tasks, not knowing exactly what she was doing.

Upon hearing Mu Nanshu’s silence, Lu Cheng continued: ”Now, before I’ve even hit the ground running, I’ve created an original Tendon Suturing Technique and a Spleen Suturing Technique. This initial starting point is higher than yours, right?”

”Aren’t I lucky, Book Bag?”

”Touch your conscience.”

”You just said, my project and technology are very useful to a deputy professor, so isn’t it even more significantly useful to an attending physician like me?”

”Am I not lucky??”

”Then, you were just lying to me earlier.” Lu Cheng doesn’t directly sweet-talk people, but the life lessons he’s learned are more effective at comforting people than sweet words are.

”What do you mean?”

”Speaking like this, you are indeed quite lucky, but that’s also due to your capabilities. Without all those past experiences, you might be close to being a professor by now.”

”Just like Professor Lan Hualuo at Zhongnan Hospital, he was promoted to senior position when he was not yet thirty-four.”

Your initial project starting point is even higher than his, right?” Mu Nanshu said.

”But before I’ve formally crossed this starting point, I should probably stop talking like this.”

”Talking about what?” Lu Cheng paused for a moment, then suddenly said.

”Xie Yuan’an said that Han Loning improved and originally created the technique for nerve suturing, right?”

Mu Nanshu nodded: ”Yes, the hand surgery department at Union Hospital has always been a powerful department in peripheral nerve treatment, and Han Loning has great talent.”

”Professor Zhong values him greatly.”

Lu Cheng said casually: ”Book Bag, isn’t it just nerve suturing techniques?”

”There are so many tendon suturing techniques, besides improving Kessler there’s also Tsuge, Tang Method, and Tajima.”

”The waves of the Yangtze River chase the ones before, right...”

Mu Nanshu went ”Ah.”

”If the preceding waves and the succeeding waves appear at the same time, who do you think has the right to speak?” Lu Cheng suddenly asked.

Mu Nanshu: ”...”

Mu Nanshu clearly understood Lu Cheng’s meaning: ”Are you playing a joke on me?”

”Book Bag, how could I be joking with you? Creating original techniques is something I’m serious about, okay?”

”Certainly not right now.”

”When I do a project, I have to do so much preliminary work; there’s no reason Dr. Han and Professor Zhong wouldn’t prepare thoroughly.”

”And by the time they’ve prepared, I believe that’ll be enough time.”

Lu Cheng spoke with considerable confidence.

It doesn’t matter because Lu Cheng has advantages, and with two prior cases of original technique creation, he can’t believe that if he truly invests his skill points he won’t be able to come up with an improved or innovative version of the nerve suturing technique.

”Why do you undertake so much? Can you manage it all?” Mu Nanshu asked.

”It doesn’t matter whether I can manage it all; the main thing is to achieve a state of clarity.”

”Book Bag, I’m not the Lu Cheng from many years ago; the current competition is determined not by a single hospital but by the industry.”

”The larger the scale, the relatively fairer it is.”

”I can choose not to do this project, but I cannot choose not to create the prototype of the project.”

”Don’t look at me that way; Professor Chen Song was angry before, but he didn’t know I could come up with a Spleen Suturing Technique, right?” Lu Cheng’s tone finally carried a hint of rebelliousness.

To be honest, ever since Lu Cheng obtained the panel, he has never felt inadequate.

Not feeling inadequate doesn’t mean being excessively excited or arrogant!
