System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Director Tan, Master, Lu Cheng said he wants to go to the State People’s Hospital to participate in the selection examination for more convenience in subsequent projects,” Tong Yuan’an mentioned midway through the dinner.

”Hmm.” Tan Zhongyuan nodded, ”Doing projects in the county is unreliable, unless Long County were a developed county-level city, then it’s somewhat feasible.”

”Xiao Lu, which department are you thinking of going to? The Hand Surgery Department?”

Lu Cheng shook his head and candidly expressed, ”Director Tan, I’m planning to go to the Emergency Department. I’m not really a hand surgeon. During my residency, the longest stint was in trauma surgery.”

”Director Tan, I can arrange these matters myself.”

Tan Zhongyuan glanced subtly at Lu Cheng and continued, ”I believe you have the capability, Xiao Lu, but if decisions can be made, there’s really no need for extra complications.”

”Han Yunshen, when you get back, remind me to contact Professor Bu in our hospital’s Emergency Department.”

”With a word from Professor Bu, this matter should be relatively easier.”

”Let’s not discuss this matter today. Come on, don’t let the atmosphere cool down. You young folks, get into the groove when it’s time!”

”If you feel it’s inconvenient, Zhou Professor and I can go for a cup of tea.”

Enjoying drinks is often the special privilege of the young, and Tan Zhongyuan knew that if he stayed, Lu Cheng and the others wouldn’t feel at ease.

So, Zhou Yuhui and Tan Zhongyuan left midway.

They’re big bosses, and no one dared to persuade them to drink, so they left as they wished.

Once they left, the atmosphere became lively. Tong Yuan’an introduced the other colleagues in detail to Lu Cheng.

Hu Yi and Han Yunshen also energetically connected with Lu Cheng, and the back-and-forth exchanges made for a pleasant atmosphere.

...

After drinking, Lu Cheng felt that it should be nothing more, and since he wasn’t on duty tonight, he could go home and rest well.

But just as he reached his doorstep, an unidentified call came through.

The caller was from Xiangxi, Xiang Province.

”Hello,” Lu Cheng answered the call.

”Is this Lu Cheng? My name is Xiao Zhaoxi.” On the other end, a middle-aged man’s voice sounded quite cheerful.

Lu Cheng hadn’t met this person, but the name wasn’t unfamiliar. Mu Nanshu had introduced him, and he was a relative of Mu Nanshu’s family.

”Hello, Director Xiao. I’m Lu Cheng. Why did you call me?” Since he could be a future leader, Lu Cheng adjusted his tone immediately.

”Xiao Lu, it wasn’t me who wanted to call you. My leader asked me to. Why are you in a hurry?”

”I have my own arrangements for your matter. And about your connection with Mu Leng and Nanshu, isn’t it?”

”You even gave me a little surprise,” Xiao Zhaoxi abruptly remarked.

”No, Director Xiao, is there some misunderstanding here?”

”Mu Nanshu and I agreed to visit you next month.” Lu Cheng was baffled.

”You say no, but my teacher, Director Li, just called me. You still say no?” Xiao Zhaoxi asked.

”Which Director Li? I really didn’t, Uncle Xiao.” Mu Nanshu had mentioned this was a distant cousin of Mu Leng.

The relationship with Mu Leng was close-yet-distant, so calling him Uncle was not wrong.

”The Director Li from Xiangya Hospital. You didn’t know?”

”Then why did Director Li specifically call to tell me to contact you immediately?” Xiao Zhaoxi’s cheerful tone vanished.

Once Xiao Zhaoxi mentioned it was Director Li from Xiangya Hospital, Lu Cheng roughly understood. It was Director Tan Zhongyuan who had facilitated this: ”Uncle Xiao, is it Teacher Li from Xiangya Hospital?”

”Perhaps, a teacher I know might have helped.”

”You’re not familiar with Director Li?” Xiao Zhaoxi suddenly asked.

”Uncle Xiao, I don’t know Director Li yet. If there’s a chance, I’d appreciate it if you could recommend me,” Lu Cheng immediately replied.

Connections are useful but hard to build.

Xiao Zhaoxi said, ”Xiao Lu, you’re not an outsider. What I said was a bit of a stretch; actually, Director Li isn’t my teacher, though he’s guided me many times.”

”I thought you were familiar with Director Li and was considering arranging a meet at a convenient time.”

”But it’s fine if you’re not familiar. Director Li has already given you a heads-up. In a while, we’ll find time to visit him.”

”Who was the teacher you were talking about? They must be someone significant, right?”

”Where are you now? Perhaps I should come over...” Xiao Zhaoxi suddenly said.

Lu Cheng replied, ”Uncle Xiao, I’m working in Long County and haven’t arranged leave yet. But next month, I probably won’t have to be on regular duty.”

”So getting leave should be more convenient.”

Xiao Zhaoxi said, ”Don’t wait until next month. I’ll invite Mu Leng over. He’s mentioned you several times.”

”You haven’t told me about the teacher you know.”

Lu Cheng said, ”It’s Director Tan Zhongyuan from the Hand Surgery Department at Xiangya Hospital.”

”Dean Lei’s family, huh? No wonder!”

”Director Li is also a vice president at Xiangya Hospital, and Director Tan will soon be one, too. Your connections are solid...” Xiao Zhaoxi immediately gave Lu Cheng a brief overview of the interpersonal relationships at Xiangya Hospital.
