System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

People like Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu, with nothing much to do, took a walk and bought two bowls of rice tofu. Mu Nanshu noticed some fried skewers and asked Lu Cheng to buy them…

Mu Nanshu must have styled her hair herself today. She had two very thin braids on both sides of her temples, tied with light purple strings at the ends, hidden behind her ears.

If you don’t look closely, you can’t even see the existence of these two small braids.

Of course, when Lu Cheng returned with the fried sausages, he saw a young man beside Mu Nanshu, holding his phone and asking her something.

Mu Nanshu gestured in the direction of Lu Cheng, who was holding the sausages, and when the young man turned his head and saw Lu Cheng approaching, he still said, ”Hey beauty, let’s add each other as friends, maybe we can hang out sometime.”

As Lu Cheng approached, he glanced up and down at the other person, held the sausages with one hand, and reached out to shake hands: ”Bro, nice to meet you…my name is Lu Cheng…”

Lu Cheng didn’t care whether the other person extended his hand or not, and only let go after pinching the man’s face slightly out of shape.

Long County used to be in North Xiangxi, a place where bandits were rampant. Lu Cheng is a typical Tujia Clan person. He’s not exactly bandit-like, but he has a natural rascal vibe and wouldn’t tolerate this kind of small thug.

”Sorry, bro…” The young man backed down immediately, realizing that Lu Cheng wasn’t someone to be trifled with, and left without saying anything else.

Mu Nanshu wasn’t surprised at all, and just said, ”Is this attitude a feature of our Long County?”

”Isn’t the fierce folk style always a feature here?”

”Otherwise, why do you think I was working overtime yesterday? It’s because of some young punks messing around with knives.”

”Just ignore them,”

Lu Cheng continued, ”We can walk along the riverside until we reach the driving school ahead, then you can go back through the back gate of the neighborhood.”

Mu Nanshu took the extremely spicy sausages from Lu Cheng’s hand and asked, ”Are you just going to leave your car here?”

”I’ll come back for it later.” Lu Cheng said.

Mu Nanshu took a bite and nodded frequently, ”The taste of Long County suits my stomach better. In Han City, I often feel something is missing.”

”Actually, completely lying flat in Long County is not bad at all. No pressure.”

Lu Cheng nodded and then shook his head, ”Lying flat feels right, but the education and medical conditions are poor.”

”I work in it, so I know what I’m talking about.”

Mu Nanshu glanced at Lu Cheng, ”You’re working in the Renmin Hospital right now, is it really okay to criticize your own unit like this?”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Who better to know my own skills?”

”What skills do I have? I can’t even perform a standard finger replantation. This level is considered outstanding in the hospital’s orthopedics department, so you can see the overall level of the County Hospital.”

Of course, after saying that, Lu Cheng added, ”Despite the poor conditions, our hospital is still the final consultation destination for many, many patients.”

”Even with the convenience of transportation now, many patients are still unwilling to travel far. If they can’t be treated in the County Hospital, even if it’s relatively incurable, many elderly people just choose not to treat it.”

Mu Nanshu leaned closer to Lu Cheng, ”You still know quite a bit about the patients?”

Lu Cheng was silent, ”Only limited to knowing, it’s the kind of knowing where you can’t do anything.”

”That’s also true, you’ve wanted to be a doctor for a long time, and planned to be a good doctor.”

”Dr. Lu had his identity planned a while back.” Mu Nanshu said with a smile.

There was a hint of ambiguity in what Mu Nanshu said, so Lu Cheng asked, ”Do you regret studying medicine?”

Lu Cheng had his plans, while back then Mu Nanshu thought anything was fine, especially not excluding studying medicine.

Her main consideration was her calculations: no matter what industry she was in, as long as she went to work, her salary couldn’t possibly surpass the interest on her family’s savings.

Mu Nanshu herself didn’t have too big of an ambition, she had decided on her life plan early on—to lie flat.

”Saying there’s no regret is a lie, and saying it’s all regret is also a lie.”

”Now, regardless of regret or not, things have come to this point. It’s just a pity not being able to go on clinical practices, only skirting around the edges.” Mu Nanshu’s tone and expression were somewhat complex.

Choosing gastroenterology but unable to perform endoscopic operations is a great limitation for a gastroenterology doctor, making it impossible for Mu Nanshu to get along well in clinical settings.

”Is there no way to rehabilitate?” Lu Cheng asked.

Mu Nanshu changed the subject: ”Has the range of surgeries in your department increased a lot compared to before?”

”Yeah, a bit more. Currently, just more tendon sutures, spleen preservation surgery, and gallbladder preservation surgery.”

”But after a while, we should be able to perform replantation of severed limbs and such.”

”Specifically, we need to wait for Professor Tong to confirm clearly. When we’re relatively foolproof, we can bring the technique into the operating room, not like last night when we had to ’dodge risks’ to cope.”

”Learning more skills is good; it’s more beneficial for me to take the State People’s Hospital selection exam in November.”

The selection exam is about selecting some talents within the system to work from the county to the State People’s Hospital, generally a ’shortcut’ for those with connections.

Of course, this ’shortcut’ also requires skill. Nowadays, those with connections aren’t just those who rely purely on contacts, knowing nothing.

’Connections’ will fully apply their relation resources to enhance their technology, resume, and education to make the assessment ”more perfect,” handling it without loopholes.

Including but not limited to the selection exam.

”Before that, Teacher Mu, you need to teach me how to write a proposal.” Lu Cheng said.

Mu Nanshu glared at Lu Cheng, stood still in a daze, ”Do you really want to call me Teacher?”

Mu Nanshu is young. Joking is fine, but always this provocatively becomes a bit out of place.

”Then ’Boss’ okay?!~” Lu Cheng changed a word, appearing a bit mischievous.

Mu Nanshu walked on, speaking seriously, ”Generally, graduate students would call their teachers ’Boss.’”

”I know, right? This boss is not that boss.”

”You, little rich girl, I’m already sticking close to you!” Lu Cheng responded earnestly.

”What kind of hobby is that?” Mu Nanshu took a fierce bite, even leaving teeth marks on the bamboo skewer.

”Kids who’ve been beaten by society are all very sensible, isn’t there a saying?”

”When young, not knowing the goodness of a rich lady, mistakenly treating a maiden as a treasure…” Lu Cheng raised his head, took the bamboo skewer from Mu Nanshu’s hand, and threw it into the distant trash can, making a clattering sound as it went in.

Mu Nanshu asked Lu Cheng, ”Are you saying I’m old with this?”

”You’re both wealthy and precious, the best of both,”

”With this, why wouldn’t I hurry to flatter? What am I waiting for?”

”Didn’t you see just now... how sought after you are.” Lu Cheng motioned towards the previous direction.

Mu Nanshu showed a helpless expression, ”You really have changed a lot.”

Lu Cheng said, ”If one day you could also achieve mental peace, wouldn’t you be even more lively than me?”

”Mental peace? What do you mean?” Mu Nanshu was puzzled.

”Having a path to follow ahead, having companions by your side, being able to climb high, and realizing the boasting of youth.”

Lu Cheng opened his arms wide, completely freeing himself.

”Having no distractions, so everything feels at peace.”

”If at this time, I’m still timid and let others have their way, without my own thoughts, then I deserve to be utterly hopeless.”

Having already verified that the panel is useful, Lu Cheng doesn’t fear his future. So even at thirty, he’s just a small doctor at the County Hospital, yet he can still be mentally coherent.

”But you still have to follow the rules…” Mu Nanshu advised Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng said, ”Rules must be followed.”

”But the thoughts are my own. Why should I be anxious?”

”Can you elaborate?” Mu Nanshu asked…

Lu Cheng replied, ”It’s not really related to me, it’s just that recently I’ve seen the disciplinary inspection checks.”

Mu Nanshu rolled her eyes, ”What does the disciplinary inspection check have to do with Long County? Others may not even be willing to come to prefectural city hospitals like this.”

”Now it’s probably some people in the Xiangya System who should be worried…”
