System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Zhong Junyun’s triangular arched eyebrows lifted, like a large knife about to chop Lu Cheng down.

”Do you know what you’re talking about?” Zhong Junyun’s voice was slightly cold, and his favorable impression of Lu Cheng dropped by at least seven or eight degrees in an instant.

Lu Cheng nodded and replied truthfully, ”Teacher, the anatomy of the coracobrachialis is quite similar to the 7th zone of the extensor tendon of the upper limb, which is the structure of the extensor retinaculum.”

”Based on my habits from studying with Professor Tong Yuan’an at Xiangya Hospital, I might recommend the sliding type Tsuge Suturing Technique as the first choice.”

”In recent years, Professor Tajima’s Tajima Suturing Technique, which is based on the Tsuge Suturing Technique, is also quite good, but the ’tong technique’ developed by Teacher Tong’s team is also quite practical.”

”But whether it’s called the ’tong technique’ has yet to be determined.”

Lu Cheng cited a specific example in detail and explained the practicality of different suturing techniques.

Zhong Junyun’s furrowed brow slowly relaxed, and he looked at his favorite student, Xiao Pan: ”A tendon suturing technique original to Xiangya Hospital? Is there such a thing?”

Zhong Junyun’s furrowed brow transferred to Pan Leiming’s forehead, and he frowned tightly: ”Master, I haven’t heard of it either. Could it be that it hasn’t been formally published yet?”

”We’ll have to inquire to know.”

Zhong Junyun thought for a moment and asked, ”Are you familiar with this original suturing technique from Xiangya Hospital? If you are, let’s go to the research room together and study it.”

”In the past two years, I’ve also heard about the tendon suturing technique developed by Professor Tajima, but our hospital’s main research focus is on nerve suturing, so it’s a bit overwhelming.”

Lu Cheng certainly wasn’t speaking aimlessly; otherwise, there would be no need to stir up trouble, mainly because he had asked Lu Cheng.

People from Hua Country have a sentiment of living a good life, but also working hard in the spirit of unity, concentrated in every aspect!

”I do know it, teacher.”

”What about the surgery?” Lu Cheng asked.

”Who’s causing extra trouble? The surgery is canceled!” Zhong Junyun replied irritably.

The half-limb replant he painstakingly arranged for Lu Cheng was pushed away by Lu Cheng himself; who can be blamed for that?

However, although Xiangya Hospital doesn’t have a good reputation, few people currently say Xiangya Hospital’s skills are lacking.

From one perspective, Xiangya Hospital’s hand surgery technology is not inferior to Union Hospital, especially in the field of flaps, where they have unique insights.

Of course, Professor Zhong Junyun was wondering at this moment whether Lu Cheng was deliberately provoking him, because after all, just last night, he made a difficult decision after much hesitation.

There was no choice; the buffs were all stacked: the old professor, the predecessors, the hero who sacrifices to save others, written in the notebook’s last wishes.

Lu Cheng thought, if Teacher Zhong didn’t dig a hole for me, I might have already started operating. You’re digging and digging in the pit; I’m already halfway in; shouldn’t I explain carefully and wait to be tapped on the radial styloid process?

My radial styloid process can be tapped, but it can’t be done so casually, right?

A surgery is not child’s play; without careful precision, one shouldn’t act lightly. No amount of preparation is too much.

”Pan Leiming, call someone to handle this!” Zhong Junyun instructed, then got up and stepped off the platform.

This kind of half-limb replant is within Pan Leiming’s range; otherwise, he wouldn’t be the chief resident of the hand surgery department at Union Hospital.

...

After that, Zhong Junyun took Lu Cheng through a winding path out of the operating room and continued to another, more spacious research room in a different floor of the functional medicine laboratory building.

The sign on the office was more grand: ”Hand Surgery Skills Research Development Room.”

Previously, what Lu Cheng accompanied Xie Yuan’an to was an advanced training room.

Training and research development, though just one character different, are poles apart.

The research development room was larger, more spacious, over a hundred square meters, with just one longer surgical table, and more instruments inside...

Zhong Junyun said: ”What materials were you preparing for the tendon suturing before? It was pig hind limb tendons, right?”

”Yes, teacher,” Lu Cheng replied.

”Then that’s correct. I’ve already asked someone to prepare them; actually, it’s just perfect. Currently, tendon suturing is your comfort zone for operation. Forcing you into vascular suturing would put a bit of a strain on your basic skills.”

”But no rush, once you’ve practiced more and gotten used to it, it’ll be fine. Our department’s Xiao Pan is at the same level of basic skill as you.”

”But he knows how to take shortcuts.”

”Tell me in detail about the tendon suturing technique developed by Xiangya Hospital, so I can increase my knowledge,” Zhong Junyun said.

The reputation of Xiangya Hospital is evaluated by people; professional skills and research levels are judged by peers.

The entire hospital’s reputation is not something insiders can influence, but Zhong Junyun has never dared to say that Xiangya Hospital’s skills are trash, so he’s quite curious about what this brother hospital has been doing.

Lu Cheng pondered for a moment, looked at Zhong Junyun, hesitantly spoke again: ”Teacher Zhong, actually, besides the tendon suturing technique developed by Xiangya Hospital, there’s another tendon suturing technique I want to tell you about.”

Zhong Junyun’s expression immediately froze, his tone lengthening with bewilderment: ”Where... did this come from again?”

Zhong Junyun thought to himself, although I primarily research nerve suturing, it’s not that I know nothing about tendon suturing; how come there are so many tendon suturing techniques I’m unaware of?

”I thought of it myself!”

After Lu Cheng said this, seeing Zhong Junyun’s furrowed brow reappear, he quickly said: ”Teacher, I’m afraid you’ll misunderstand, so I’m just telling it like it is.”

”If you think I’m making a fuss, I won’t say it.”

Zhong Junyun tapped the table with his right index and middle fingers, asking, ”Are you trying to elevate yourself on purpose?”

Lu Cheng shook his head, his expression calm: ”No, Teacher Zhong!”

”I cherish learning opportunities, but I won’t intentionally boast myself. After all, I got through many years of exploring alone.”

Zhong Junyun thought about Lu Cheng’s identity, a county hospital doctor.

And suddenly realized: ”Then let’s not trouble you for now; we’ll talk after seeing it later...”

Professor Zhong Junyun still held considerable weight, presumably as the big boss of the research development room, always stocked by a collaborating biotech company.

Soon enough, someone delivered fresh, high-quality pig hind limbs.

”Professor Zhong, we’ve prepared the things you asked for; is there enough sutures here? Should I prepare another batch?” The person was a slightly chubby middle-aged man, his face full of smiles.

”There’s no rush, we use nerve sutures more frequently, but tendon sutures are used occasionally and not always in the future.”

”When needed, I’ll have someone inform you.” Zhong Junyun waved his hand for the person to step back.

The visitor was a supplier from the biotechnology company, dealing business rather than being a student.

”Alright, Teacher Zhong, I won’t disturb you then.” The middle-aged man took a glance at Lu Cheng, planning to add Lu Cheng on WeChat later.

Professor Zhong Junyun rarely requested tendon suturing materials voluntarily, presumably expecting Lu Cheng to be the future ’suture consumption boss.’

With a new boss, servicing is required, as it’s how they earn money.

Lu Cheng thus began the demonstration of the tendon suturing technique.

Although the panel was disorganized, it didn’t mean Lu Cheng’s previously known modified Kessler or other suturing techniques disappeared or were forgotten.

Lu Cheng performed tendon suturing demonstrations on each technique with a full five pig tendons, from modified Kessler to modified Tang, Tsuge, Tajima Suturing Technique, ’tong technique’ and even the newly appeared ’Unnamed Suturing Technique’ on his panel!

A total of thirty pig tendons sutured, taking Lu Cheng as long as ten full hours to complete.

Zhong Junyun accompanied him throughout, carefully watching Lu Cheng’s operation, indeed finding that Lu Cheng showed proficiency and understanding of various tendon suturing techniques. He then accompanied Lu Cheng in the research development room to have lunch and dinner together.

”The second-last suturing technique you operated should be the suturing technique from Xiangya Hospital, right? And the last suturing technique seems to have shadows of many other suturing techniques.” Zhong Junyun mused, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

”Yes, teacher, I couldn’t completely create an original modified technique, so I only borrowed the finesse from other teachers’ suturing techniques.”

”In essence, it’s primarily from listening to the essence of suturing techniques and nerve suturing developed by you, teacher, over the past couple of days that I was able to have some gains.”

”But I’m not sure whether this suturing technique is better than other suturing techniques.”
