System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

The lights were bright, but only illuminated the path, leaving the flowerbeds and shadows dim and dark.

The direction of the light happened to fall on the back of Professor Zhong Junyun, making it difficult for Lu Cheng to see his real expression at the moment.

So cautiously, he said, ”Teacher, winning or losing is not a one-time thing. Actually, it’s just about seeking a clear conscience, or in other words, just proving that oneself is not that bad, not necessarily being fixated on anything.”

Uncertain of Professor Zhong Junyun’s intentions, Lu Cheng candidly expressed his thoughts.

Only losers would feel powerless anger, think about stepping on others to elevate themselves.

Truly insightful people only continually improve themselves, raising their vision and goals, rather than fixating on defeating a single person...

”Are you backing off again?” Zhong Junyun instantly felt uninterested, his tone dry.

”Can do, can think, but can’t say.” Lu Cheng’s expression remained cautious.

Zhong Junyun recalled that last time Lu Cheng said ”Can do, can’t think, can’t say.”

Immediately, he felt that Lu Cheng was a clever person, having suffered and experienced setbacks, his mindset now mature, advancing and retreating appropriately.

”Alright then, I hope that the next time I see you, you can achieve that clear conscience you believe in. Then, you can take me out for a meal.”

Zhong Junyun continued, ”Also, after you go back, if you feel you can’t handle your ’troubles’ and the favors of ’others’, feel free to call me, I’ll handle it for you.”

There’s no choice, some effort is required to pick up what was lost.

Lu Cheng saw it himself today and didn’t make a fuss, didn’t bring up last night’s call, how considerate and wronged he felt?

”Teacher, I can handle it myself.” Lu Cheng replied, clearly still concerned.

”It’s okay...”

”The thing is, didn’t you say last night that you later emailed Professor Dong? The email send record is still there, right? Send me a screenshot, I’ll help you settle the issue over there.” Zhong Junyun pinched his nose at this point.

”As for the future, you’re still a free agent.”

No apologies!

He’s the teacher, has his pride, pursuing a student’s like a funeral wouldn’t be without his spunk!~

...

”Without trust, a person cannot stand; without filial devotion, one lacks virtue.”

”In learning, it’s important to seek a clear conscience. If Lu Cheng gives up on Professor Tong at Xiangya Hospital this time, next time he might abandon us at Union Hospital.”

”Understanding gratitude but not being trapped in foolish ignorance from it makes a good lad.” Zhong Junyun told Xie Xiao.

Xie Xiao asked further, ”Teacher Zhong, do you think this Lu Cheng is really worth... granting such great authority for grooming?”

”It’s alright, our hospital has plenty of degrees, one more or less doesn’t matter. Since he’s confident, it’s fine to give young people a chance.”

After Zhong Junyun finished speaking, Xie Xiao heard Xie Yuan’an’s voice coming from over there: ”Dad, something bad happened...”

”Just now, Dr. Li from Zhongnan Hospital called, saying that Lu Cheng, during his residency training, promised to apply to Elder Professor Dong if he wanted to pursue further studies...”

Zhong Junyun remained natural and unmoved, Xie Xiao’s startled voice echoed: ”What did you say? Which Elder Professor Dong.”

”Wasn’t Elder Professor Dong the one who passed away unexpectedly?”

”It’s the Elder Professor Dong who passed away unexpectedly, Li Yuankun from Zhongnan Hospital found his leisure to dig out Elder Professor Dong’s notebook and noted this statement.”

”Now Professor Lan Hualuo is clamoring to take on students as a substitute for fulfilling Elder Professor Dong’s last wish...”

Xie Xiao: ”How is it there’s such a ridiculous thing?”

”Isn’t it Deng Yong from Zhongnan Hospital starting to play tricks again?”

”Teacher Zhong? Sure it’s Deng Yong from Zhongnan Hospital...” Xie Xiao seemed a bit flustered.

”He always doesn’t play by the rules.”

”Don’t panic!~ When you encounter problems, solve them first, don’t get flustered, whether it’s Deng Yong, Luo Yong, or Huang Yong, they can all be dealt with.” Zhong Junyun replied.

...

The warm glow in the living room was still faint.

Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu sat side by side holding hands, after a while, Lu Cheng took the initiative to wrap his arm around Mu Nanshu’s shoulder.

Mu Nanshu, who hadn’t had intimate gestures for a long time, seemed a bit nervous, goosebumps gradually rising, but her action wasn’t to avoid him, but wanting to cry.

At this moment, she recalled a lyric.

If there hadn’t been that incident back then, would they have children by now?

The answer was unknown—

The TV hanging on the wall was turned on, playing a variety show.

Lu Cheng said:

”Now the situation is, if you’re willing Book Bag, you might need to help me out, I’m not very familiar with the scientific research routines.”

”If we want to bring this project back to work on, it’s either borrowing Professor Tong Yuan’an’s strength or doing it together, with me leading...”

”Professor Zhong said, although this project isn’t large and its significance in the research community is not extraordinary, its meaning to Hua Country is special.”

”For our generation, we ought to strive for such things!”

”If we can excel in all aspects, it would be worthy of the efforts and sacrifices of all those predecessors.”

”Book Bag, what do you think? Of course, you can choose not to.”

Mu Nanshu replied without hesitation: ”Why not do it?”

”Under such circumstances, even Professor Dong Chang wouldn’t dare to refuse approval!~”

Then she chuckled: ”I really didn’t expect you could come up with such a reason.”

Competing with a neighboring country over the suturing technique project, with the hope to win, absolutely must do it!~

All for academic freedom!

”What’s up with you and that Professor Dong?” Mu Nanshu’s tone was gentle and delicate.

”It’s actually just for show at the moment.”

”You know, my strength isn’t small. That was an open fracture external fixation frame installation. Professor Dong said my strength is almost a gift for orthopedics.”

”After coming out of the operating room, didn’t think much about it, Professor Dong probably saw that I wasn’t up to par, so never gave me any response.”

”Can I morally bind him? I asked a few times after graduation too, but it was just met with silence.”

”I never really took it seriously.” Lu Cheng explained.

Lu Cheng understood well that his performance during residency training wasn’t outstanding, with no way to stand out.

Medicine is an industry with high technical specialization barriers, some things you just can’t do without being taught systematically, and you can’t get into them without help.

Every field of medicine is like this, from ancient to modern times, the phrase ’the method not passed on to six ears’ is vividly played out in the medical field, and some treasures of Hua Country’s traditional medicine were lost due to it.

On the coffee table were prepared disposable forks, Lu Cheng picked up two and put them in Mu Nanshu’s palm, his fingers touched hers, but neither felt embarrassed.

Mu Nanshu adjusted her robe as she sat, her chest plumped up again: ”Maybe we’re just ordinary people.”

Mu Nanshu compared her left thumb again: ”At most, we are like little strong ones, slightly stronger ordinary people, with some talent, but limited.”

”Less than enough to be on top, better than below, enough for use.”

”But now, you seem a bit different.”
