System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

When Lu Cheng pushed the door open, he glanced at his panel.

[Finger and Limb Replantation Surgery (Beginner 4/5)]

[Current Skill Points Balance: 11.3]

After a trip to Union Hospital, Lu Cheng almost didn’t earn any skill points. In four or five days, Lu Cheng taught Peng Kun, Tian Zhuang, and others, which brought a total of three skill points.

The remaining eight skill points were all earned from surgeries Lu Cheng performed today. They haven’t even warmed up before they need to be used again.

The skill level for Finger and Limb Replantation Surgery appeared on the panel after Lu Cheng learned Nerve Suturing Skill at Union Hospital and attained a certain proficiency.

Only when the prerequisites for the surgery are completed does the panel determine that you have a beginner’s ability in a certain surgical technique, and then it’s displayed on the panel for point allocation.

It doesn’t list everything from scratch directly on the panel.

[Finger and Limb Replantation Surgery (Skilled 5/10) (Skill Points -11)]

The skill level isn’t actually very high. According to Lu Cheng’s original plan, he intended to regularly perform the surgery after reaching specialization.

But in an emergency and when avoiding risks, such considerations can’t be afforded.

In Surgical Operating Room 3, it’s all brothers from Orthopedics Ward 2: Associate Chief Physician Song Hongtu, Senior Attending Physician Zeng Hongbo, and Attending Physician Xiang Pengcheng.

Lu Cheng was previously in orthopedics and knew them, but previously it was just acquaintanceship.

”Oh, Technician Supervisor Teacher Lu is here?” As soon as Lu Cheng entered, Song Hongtu deliberately made a worldly remark.

Lu Cheng didn’t mind Brother Song Hongtu’s jabs, he already knew there was a semi-limb severance here, which definitely required semi-limb replantation surgery, so he directly washed up and went in.

While heading to the dressing table, he politely said, ”Director Song, Brother Xiang, Brother Bo, I was just given this task while in the Emergency Department.”

”If I could refuse, I’d be sound asleep in the lounge.”

Lu Cheng’s words were half true and half false, but actually, everyone in Ward 2 knew Lu Cheng’s past experience in Orthopedics Ward 1; most departments in the County Hospital were similar.

Song Hongtu didn’t dwell on it, but said, ”Xiao Lu, we’ve finished the debridement here. This upper arm wound is very deep; there’s not only tendon damage but also nerve and vascular damage.”

”This group of youngsters was truly vicious. I estimate it was clamped under the armpit, and then the knife was drawn straight out!”

”Luckily, the knife wound is outward. If it were inward, the person would’ve been left right there.”

An outward knife wound is on the upper arm, an inward one is on the lung!

”Wait until Professor Tong’s team has finished using the microsurgical instruments, then push them over for vascular and nerve suturing.”

”The emergency department originally had a set, but Professor Tong will need them later, so let’s first deal with the tendons and muscles!”

”The volume of the palm and muscle of the upper arm is large enough that no microsurgical instruments are needed.”

”Circulating nurse, later, head to Room 5, watch the mirror, and push it over as soon as possible,” Lu Cheng said.

The hospital definitely has more than one set of microsurgical instruments; otherwise, only one operating room can be used, and there would be no need for pushing around.

Because of this, Lin Qianlong applied for a set to permanently reside in the emergency operating room, as microsurgical instruments are often needed for tendon suturing.

Currently, only Professor Tong Yuan’an in hand surgery can use it; others can only watch for now, the instruments can’t just be left aside after purchase.

Song Hongtu seriously comprehended Lu Cheng’s intention, his expression and tone formal, ”Lu Cheng, what did you just say?”

”I asked the circulating nurse to push the microscope a little later. After Professor Tong finishes his operation, go to the emergency surgical room to handle the tendons. I’ll first handle the semi-limb replantation here!”

Lu Cheng was already dressed in sterile surgical clothing, but he clearly felt the circulating nurse aiding him shiver, her fingertips grazing the skin outside his cervical vertebra.

”You... this?” Lu Cheng’s intention was clear, but as Song Hongtu and Zeng Hongbo exchanged glances, their confusion grew.

Lu Cheng intends to perform semi-limb replantation? Can he perform semi-limb replantation?

So, is he performing just semi-limb replantation, or has he set a new standard for County Hospital hand surgery?

Currently, throughout the Xiangzhou, only two hospitals can perform semi-limb replantation, limb replantation, and finger replantation: the State People’s Hospital and Ji City People’s Hospital.

They’re both in Ji City, besides these two, no county hospital or any other hospital can perform limb replantation.

This is universally acknowledged as of now.

The reason why Peng Haibo from Orthopedics Ward 1 invited hand surgeons to temporarily reside at Long County People’s Hospital was to become the first county hospital in Xiangxi State capable of performing finger replantation surgery.

But Director Peng only predicted reaching that level within three years, and Lu Cheng doesn’t know how far ahead he’s thinking.

Without acknowledging anyone’s sentiments, Lu Cheng put on sterile gloves and approached the operating table.

”Brother Bo, can you make room for me?” Lu Cheng politely inquired.

Originally, Song Hongtu was the chief surgeon, Zeng Hongbo the first assistant, and Xiang Pengcheng as the second assistant, blocking the surgical view.

Zeng Hongbo vacated his seat quickly, nearly crashing into Lu Cheng in his hurry, but fortunately, Lu Cheng was in a defensive position, immediately pivoting back-to-back to avoid contamination.

Once everything was set, Lu Cheng sat down to take over the surgery!

Semi-limb replantation is when a portion of a limb’s soft tissue is severed, sometimes with or without a fracture, its full name is semi-limb severance replantation.

Lu Cheng first inspected the surgical field, confirming arterial damage, nerve damage, muscle, and tendon injuries.

Of course, Zeng Hongbo, as an associate chief physician, certainly can’t fail at debridement and hemostasis, but he was uncertain whether to suture the muscle, so he left the surgery unattended.

Surgical learning is very private; usually, methods aren’t shared publicly. Seeing doesn’t mean knowing, and not knowing means not daring to act easily!

Without fractures in semi-limb replantation, it’s as if limb replantation is complete with internal fracture fixation; next, the tendons and muscles can be sutured, taking care of the vascular and nerve beds...

”Circulating nurse, suture!” Lu Cheng wasn’t hesitant.

Tong Yuan’an authorized him, so later, he would certainly revisit; the primary surgeon for this procedure is Professor Tong Yuan’an, not Lu Cheng. He is just the operative executor for Tong Yuan’an’s ’semi-limb replantation,’ not the main executor!

”Director Song, pull the view more towards you, yes, like that, let’s begin...” Lu Cheng’s voice was steady.

If you know it, you know it; if you don’t, you don’t.

It’s typical for someone Lu Cheng’s age not to know limb replantation; even in top institutions like Union Hospital, it’s standard for hospital juniors of Lu Cheng’s age not to know this surgery!

If Lu Cheng said he didn’t know, no one would claim he shouldn’t or is inexperienced.

But knowing is knowing.

If it weren’t for Peng Kun’s sudden insistence on adding a tendon revision surgery and Professor Tong’s need to save time, Lu Cheng wouldn’t have stepped beyond headquarters, only applying to gradually get involved after Tong had watched his operation a few more times.

But in an emergency, to save time, Lu Cheng had to candidly reveal his capability.
