System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Integrity Plaza Building 12 Underground Parking, Lu Cheng watched as Mu Nanshu walked out from the elevator shaft.

Today, she wore light makeup, donning a knee-length denim pencil skirt and a white blouse with floral embroidery that reached her wrists, carrying a light yellow small bag, and wearing a pair of hidden-height platform sneakers.

She walked elegantly.

Lu Cheng glanced at her and said with a smile, ”Looks like you have more time today, so you’re dressed quite meticulously.”

Mu Nanshu rolled her eyes at Lu Cheng and naturally walked to the passenger seat, opened the car door, and stretched:

”Days without work tasks where I can wake up naturally are truly delightful. I woke up at ten this morning, then took a cab to the gym.”

”I feel I’m really suited for this kind of relaxed lifestyle.”

”What are we having for dinner tonight?”

Lu Cheng opened the driver’s door, not bothering to gentlemanly open the passenger door for Mu Nanshu: ”Bee pupae.”

”We have an old saying here, July gourd, August bee, September and October full and plump!~”

Mu Nanshu’s eyes sparkled as she fastened her seatbelt: ”That’s not cheap, is it?!~”

”So is Boss Mu going to make a move? Little rich lady, I’m starving.” Lu Cheng said without any ’macho’ pretense.

Mu Nanshu was fastening her seatbelt, gave Lu Cheng another eye roll: ”What happened to you being like this now?”

Her attention not focused on the seatbelt, so she didn’t fasten it into the buckle, but instead, it got caught elsewhere...

Seatbelts need to be pulled back and adjusted again if not pulled out properly the first time.

Lu Cheng had a bit of a laugh, while Mu Nanshu turned sideways to reset the seatbelt before pulling it again, then sat upright, and adjusted the passenger seat position.

Her tone serious: ”Don’t laugh!~”

Lu Cheng’s gaze didn’t linger and shifted the topic asking, ”When will Uncle and Aunt come back?”

”I want to find a chance to invite them for a meal. I remember the last time I saw Uncle Mu was in May, and it’s August now.”

Mu Nanshu’s father is called Mu Leng. There’s nothing special about the name; according to Lu Nanjia, Mu Leng was born in a particularly cold year, hence the name.

Even though Mu Nanshu went abroad, Mu Leng often returned to Long County to visit Lu Cheng’s family and have drinks with Lu Nanjia, although most of the time they didn’t talk about Mu Nanshu.

He came to the house to drink, rather than going outside to drink!

So it’s clear the friendship between Lu Nanjia and Mu Leng is quite profound.

”My dad said he’s in the process of transferring some things. He’ll probably retire and let others manage the company.”

”So it will definitely take some more time.” Mu Nanshu replied.

”That’s great!~” Lu Cheng nodded: ”Uncle Mu and Aunt usually work very hard, retiring will let them rest.”

”They’re not ones to sit idle; they said they plan to retire and then open a hotpot restaurant in Long County for fun, even if they lose money, they don’t plan on doing any big projects...” Mu Nanshu said.

In Lu Cheng’s view, it’s actually just that they’ve earned enough money and are satisfied.

Lu Cheng said: ”Have you told Uncle and Aunt about your visit to Long County? I suggest you tell them the truth directly to avoid misunderstandings, like saying I led you astray.”

”If they misunderstand that I brought you back and you lost your job at Union Hospital, when we first meet there might be misunderstandings.”

Mu Nanshu glanced at Lu Cheng: ”You overthought, alright? In their eyes, I’m at least as smart as you. You can’t trick me into anything.”

Lu Cheng replied: ”That’s indeed true... I might just tell lies, but can’t deceive in things...”

Mu Nanshu changed the topic: ”I heard from my classmate that you’re doing quite well at Renmin Hospital now?”

”Which classmate of yours isn’t also mine?” Lu Cheng started the car and countered.

Mu Nanshu mentioned a name: ”Fan Wenhua, she’s now a nurse in the operating room.”

”You mean Sister Hua, well she’s hit you up for a gift, she’s expecting her second child by the end of the year, now that you know, you can’t skip out on the red envelope.”

Fan Wenhua is a bit older than Lu Cheng, her birthday is in March, when they were in Long County, her dorm location was quite similar to Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu, so the three often went to school together.

However, Fan Wenhua’s grades weren’t good, during the entrance exams she got into a tertiary nursing program, during university they occasionally kept contact, but later it gradually waned...

Mu Nanshu sneakily glanced at Lu Cheng, casually asking: ”Fan Wenhua said there’s a nurse called Xiao Min who’s quite familiar with you?”

”Wang Limin, she’s in the operating room too, she’s four to five years younger than us.”

”Her standards are high, I’m just a little minion, even if I wanted to ask her out for dinner, this young lady wouldn’t have time.”

”Only someone like Executive Luo from our orthopedics department is her type.” Lu Cheng replied.

”Executive Luo? The one you said has relatives in the province, isn’t he already taken?” Mu Nanshu remembered Executive Luo’s name distinctly.

Lu Cheng looked at Mu Nanshu: ”Being taken doesn’t make him less desirable, does it?”

”Right, your department is always a mess.” Mu Nanshu delivered a sharp jab.

Lu Cheng was taken aback and couldn’t argue: ”...”

Long County in Xiang Province and Feng County in E Province are separated by the Youshui River, with a wide bridge spanning over Youshui, connecting the two provinces and counties.

Feng County’s infrastructure is more than twice as strong as Long County’s, but the lively atmosphere of Long County is not something Feng County can compare to.

At seven in the evening, the Long County side of the Xiang-Eqing Bridge is brightly lit due to economic hardship, bustling with pedestrians, small carts and vendors setting up, all striving for their livelihood.
