System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

There are three operating rooms, and the orderly beeping of the anesthesia monitor continues rhythmically. The anesthesiologist doesn’t dare to be careless and refrains from playing with his phone.

Feeling drowsy, he forces himself to stand up and walk to the operating table, shifting his attention to the surgery to stay alert.

Since Professor Tong Yuan’an returned, the operation on the operating table has been progressing in an orderly manner.

The chief surgeon is Prof. Tong Yuan’an, with Peng Haibo and Tayama assisting.

Perhaps seeing the smooth progress of the surgery, Tayama, with a clever tongue, said to liven up the mood, ”Professor Tong, how is Xiao Lu doing over there?”

The anesthesiologist, who had been in the operating room, was aware of the earlier conversation between Peng Haibo and Tayama. Upon hearing Tayama’s gentle and calm tone, he internally rolled his eyes.

”It’s alright, just standard,” Tong Yuan’an replied calmly.

Tong Yuan’an wasn’t targeting Lu Cheng particularly, but Lu Cheng’s skill level could indeed only be described as standard, having seen far superior techniques compared to Lu Cheng’s.

Tayama implied, ”This Xiao Lu is quite elusive. He was flawless while in our orthopedics department, but once he moved to the emergency department, it was like he was set free.”

Tayama’s words made both Tong Yuan’an and Peng Haibo glance at him.

Zhao Hai from the anesthesiology department was momentarily taken aback. Such words, that people on all sides can interpret differently, require significant skill to say.

At least, Zhao Hai analyzed that Tayama was watching the struggle from a safe place, conveying what Peng Haibo wanted him to say, probing whether Lu Cheng intentionally held back previously.

He also conveyed to Professor Tong that Lu Cheng had been relatively constrained before.

Tayama said Lu Cheng was set free, not that he soared.

Though it was just a one-word difference, the implications can be quite distinct.

”If Xiao Lu was hiding before, then he must have been hiding under a coffin, with no chance of being unearthed even after a grave-digging.”

”Skills are, of course, acquired gradually. The speed may be fast, but what does that have to do with hiding?” Tong Yuan’an glancing at Tayama, continued.

”Does Director Tian often play hide and seek with his skills?”

Tayama, slightly embarrassed but cautiously waiting on the professor, chuckled foolishly like a heavy-set person: ”Professor Tong, no, I’m just naive.”

Peng Haibo said earnestly, ”Xiao Lu having such skills and opportunities is his fortune and our county hospital’s fortune.”

”If Xiao Lu can manage cases of severed limbs and fingers, then in the future, patients with such conditions won’t need to travel for referrals.”

”Things we’ve never done before, where could Lu Cheng have hidden them?”

”I just never expected that with just one advanced workshop, Xiao Lu has developed to such a level.”

Tong Yuan’an chuckled, ”Director Peng’s ideas are good, skipping the ten years of hard work under the stage direct…”

Peng Haibo was momentarily speechless before continuing, ”Not at all, Professor Tong. Xiao Lu’s daily hard work and dedication are all in our eyes.”

Tong Yuan’an looked up, ”Just watching makes it look good, right?”

After a comeback, Tong Yuan’an continued, ”Actually, I also enjoy watching. Making myself feel pleasant without lifting a finger, how nice.”

”So, the era of highly developed social media also has its drawbacks.”

Tong Yuan’an shifted the topic, his logic somewhat awkward.

However, both Peng Haibo and Tayama did not pursue the logical issue, considering it already giving face that Tong Yuan’an thought to shift the focus of the conversation.

However, Peng Haibo thought Tong Yuan’an wouldn’t speak further, but then Tong Yuan’an added, ”Director Peng, earlier you mentioned personally handling Doctor Peng Kun’s matters, do you have any thoughts?”

Assistant Peng Haibo’s hands slightly trembled. If not for the instinct of a surgeon, his grip on the retractor could have slipped, causing the surgical incision to recoil!

But the retractor held by Peng Haibo only shook slightly.

This was an internal orthopedic affair of the hospital, with Tong Yuan’an overreaching.

But there was a point, today’s cleanup responsibility fell on Tong Yuan’an, ultimately making it his concern.

”Professor Tong, what is your opinion?” Peng Haibo tried his best to suppress his emotions.

Tong Yuan’an, half-smiling, said, ”This is your matter, Director Peng, I am not the director.”

Peng Haibo responded, ”Then I will suspend Peng Kun’s practice rights for half a month, send him back to be suspended, and deduct this month’s performance.”

Tayama lowered his head and sniffed, not surprised by this decision.

Tong Yuan’an focused back on the tendon suturing, and only after about fifteen seconds did he say, ”Director Peng, I am planning to change wards next month.”

Upon hearing this, Peng Haibo promptly became anxious, ”Professor Tong, if you have any thoughts, we can discuss them.”

Tong Yuan’an responded confidently, ”My only thought is to change wards, nothing more.”

”Also, there is no need for Director Peng to handle it, I will apply to the hospital office myself.”

Although Tayama kept a poker face and sat up straight, his heart was secretly rejoicing.

About half an hour later, Tong Yuan’an finally finished all the tendon sutures and sighed, ”Speaking honestly, these social scums and degenerates truly cause harm both to others and themselves.”

”Though irresponsible, you can’t make them pay what they can’t afford... What can we do then?”

”There are only three types of people in hospitals: medical staff, patients, and those unrelated to medicine.”

”People like him who cause trouble and come for treatment, even if I don’t work in this hospital, they would still call me to treat him, such is society.”

It seemed like Tong Yuan’an was complaining about his grievances, but he was actually giving an explanation to Peng Haibo.

What does Peng Kun count as? Even if the patient he treated was a murderer, what J8 relation does it have with your orthopedics?

When did hospitals start taking up the role of courts, deciding if someone is guilty or not, whether they deserve legal punishment, or deserve to die?

Peng Haibo, knowing full well that this time Peng Kun has crossed the line with Tong Yuan’an, hadn’t regarded the patient as a patient, just as material.

If Peng Kun had reported it and gained authorization, then failure would be a ’technical issue’, a natural chance in medicine.

But now, what Peng Kun did concerns character and medical ethics.

”Professor Tong, Peng Kun severely violated medical discipline during today’s emergency; I will definitely handle it more severely!~” Peng Haibo still wanted to salvage something.

”That’s internal to you, Director Peng, I won’t interfere…”

”Huh?” Nearing the end of surgery, Tong Yuan’an grew sleepy again. He yawned, carefully checked the surgical wound, then laid down his hands.

”Director Tian, could you do the closing? Let me rest here for a bit.”

Tayama quickly replied, ”Professor Tong, you can go back to rest first, it has been a very tiring day for you.”

Tong Yuan’an said, ”Having gotten to this point, let’s finish it together. Anyway, we can’t sleep much longer today.”

Peng Haibo, on the other hand, proactively and enthusiastically said, ”Professor Tong, circumstances are justified, our surgery for tomorrow can be canceled.”

”I’m waiting for breakfast with Brother Chen Song.” Tong Yuan’an gave a legitimate reason.

And this meticulousness from Tong Yuan’an made Tayama and Zhao Hai thoughtful. Clearly, Tong Yuan’an was afraid of Peng Haibo pulling a fast one after he stepped out of the operating room, and doing something to the patient…

Although such occurrences are incredibly unlikely, Tong Yuan’an still chose to stand firm until the patient left the operating room.

Once out of the operating room, even if Peng Haibo slit the patient’s throat, it would have nothing to do with him, but while still in the operating room, many things remain unclear.
