System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

The warm light in the living room was gentle, and the temperature was just right.

Mu Nanshu wore a light yellow silk-knit bathrobe, sitting upright with her feet together, listening to Lu Cheng talk very attentively.

”I think it’s quite good too. According to what you said, the competition mechanism for associate senior positions in Union Hospital is so intense, it’s like twisted bread. If I get promoted to associate senior from below, it’s impossible to be removed, so in a sense, it’s a blessing in disguise...” Lu Cheng had a very open mindset.

Whether he can stay at Union Hospital depends on himself; Professor Zhong Junyun certainly can’t give Lu Cheng an accurate answer, he needs Lu Cheng to strive for it himself.

But in Lu Cheng’s view, as long as he is given time, the Cyan Cloud Ladder is not impossible to climb.

In front of Mu Nanshu, Lu Cheng didn’t dare to sell an overly distant future, but the difficulty wasn’t as high as imagined, so Lu Cheng wouldn’t induce anxiety in Mu Nanshu.

Mu Nanshu gently nodded and was about to reply when Lu Cheng’s phone rang.

Lu Cheng raised his hand to pick it up. Seeing that it was a call from Professor Zhong Junyun, he hushed: ”It’s Professor Zhong.”

Lu Cheng adjusted his posture from lying to sitting upright and answered the call.

Professor Zhong Junyun immediately questioned fiercely: ”Lu Cheng, did you promise Professor Dong Yaohua during your training at Zhongnan Hospital that if you want to study further, you would go to him?”

”Is there such a thing?”

Lu Cheng’s training unit was in the trauma surgery department of Zhongnan Hospital, and at that time, the professor he followed was Elder Professor Dong Yaohua.

Lu Cheng wasn’t outstanding at the time, but he stood out because of his sincere attitude. So one time when Elder Professor Dong Yaohua was performing surgery, he jokingly mentioned it.

But that was all he mentioned; there was no follow-up. Later, when Lu Cheng went to inquire, Elder Professor Dong Yaohua responded vaguely, and after a second attempt without result, Lu Cheng stopped asking.

Later, Lu Cheng heard from another senior the reason: Elder Professor Dong Yaohua appreciated Lu Cheng’s strength that day.

And when Lu Cheng stayed in Long County until he almost became introverted, thinking of sending messages and emails to Elder Professor Dong again, they unsurprisingly sank into the sea.

”Teacher, this did happen, but I later asked Teacher Dong, and he ignored me.”

”I think it was during a fracture surgery that Professor Dong noticed my strength and mentioned it.”

”Teacher, how did you learn about this?” Lu Cheng asked.

Professor Zhong Junyun’s voice changed, angrily saying: ”Now Zhongnan Hospital is asking me for people!!!”

”After Elder Professor Dong retired, he didn’t accept the hospital’s offer to stay on but went back to his hometown, Yi City, and tragically passed away in an accident while saving someone from drowning. He was a model hero for Han City and Yi City.”

”How come there’s always something trailing behind you?”

Lu Cheng listened and was unexpectedly shocked, saying: ”No...right?”

Lu Cheng glanced at Mu Nanshu, his tone filled with disbelief: ”Teacher? Am I that unlucky?”

Elder Professor Dong Yaohua’s death saving someone from drowning explained why Lu Cheng’s messages later sank with no response.

”Hmm? What do you mean by unlucky?” Professor Zhong Junyun wasn’t solely venting his anger at Lu Cheng, so he continued to ask.

”When I had my re-exam at Huashan Hospital, actually my girlfriend asked around for me beforehand, she said I was a safe bet.”

”But before I could attend the re-exam, the teacher who excelled in operations sacrificed himself for work, suddenly passing away in the operating room.”

”Professor Dong, he...”

It was better not to listen, but upon hearing this, Professor Zhong Junyun’s throat tightened, his tone instantly became conciliatory: ”Xiao Lu,”

”The two of us can discuss things calmly, right?”

I ask you a question, and you tell me this?

Bury one teacher after another, then how do I engage with you?

Lu Cheng continued: ”Teacher, where I go to study is my personal choice, it has nothing to do with Professor Lan, right?”

”If Elder Professor Dong truly wanted to take me as his student, after twenty-three months under him, he would have made it clear long ago.”

”I asked him again later, but Professor Dong told me to take the exam first and then see.”

Of course, Lu Cheng knew Professor Lan Hualuo was eyeing him from behind, making an effort.

Professor Zhong Junyun said: ”But this sentence did appear in Elder Professor Dong’s notebook.”

”Lu Cheng, sigh, do you know how difficult you’re making things for me now?”

”Professor Lan wants to recruit you as a student on behalf of the teacher; I can’t utter a word.”

”What should I do? Disrespect fellow veterans and heroes?”

Lu Cheng: ”...”

”So, teacher, what do you mean?” Lu Cheng’s heart was pounding, seeming to have caught onto something.

”I can only respect the late hero’s wish now!~”

”Damn it!” Professor Zhong Junyun said oddly, hanging up the call, his last words sounded distorted.

Lu Cheng had it on speaker, so Mu Nanshu heard how Lu Cheng was treated like a cargo being delivered, dripping wet.

The previous promise Professor Zhong Junyun made to Lu Cheng was blown away at this moment, not even allowing Lu Cheng a unilateral choice!

Lu Cheng took deep breaths, biting his lip, tightly squinting his eyes. After a while, he exhaled deeply.

Mu Nanshu was already sitting upright, reaching out to hold Lu Cheng’s right hand, gently stroking: ”Don’t, don’t be angry...”

”If you feel aggrieved, you can shout a few times.”

At this moment, Mu Nanshu particularly understood Lu Cheng because she also felt a bit distressed.

Firstly, Lu Cheng was treated like a piece of cargo, discarded at will.

Secondly, Lu Cheng wanted to stay at Union Hospital, but was dug out like a mud eel by Zhongnan Hospital’s Professor Lan.

Ultimately, Lu Cheng didn’t shout anything; looking at Mu Nanshu, he said: ”It’s alright... it’s alright.”

”There are other ways.” Lu Cheng said to Mu Nanshu.

Mu Nanshu leaned closer to Lu Cheng, whispered: ”Don’t think too much, focus on your classes, and perfect your skills first.”

”Professor Lan is doing this because he values you, so he searched through the late professor’s belongings... there might be some misunderstanding here...”

”If Zhongnan Hospital wants you, you can go. Didn’t you say before, that Professor Lan is also a very good professor.”

”Just now Professor Zhong mentioned, Elder Professor Dong was a veteran, also a hero who saved lives; it’s his wish, and Professor Zhong is also helpless.”

”Lu Cheng, keep a slightly calm mindset, yes, calm down a bit more.”

After Mu Nanshu finished speaking, her own tears started dropping loudly: ”We can only stay calm, like cockroaches, hard to kill.”

”Hmm...”

Lu Cheng was silent for a while, then said: ”I don’t have the interview recordings from back then. But I can find the original email information!~”

”What time did Professor Dong pass away? The time I sent him email messages was in November 2018, which was the fifth month after my training ended.”

Lu Cheng immediately opened his email and checked the timeline.

But even though Lu Cheng checked, it was useless after finding it.
