Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 198: Chapter 198: Who Exactly Is It?

Other newspaper delivery staff’s hushed discussions also reached Ying Luo’s ears. Upon hearing ”Monster Tamer,” she involuntarily pictured Yang Yu’s face in her mind.

Could everything he said be true? Was he really a Monster Tamer?

The newspaper was handed to Ying Luo, who sneakily peeked at it. The headline’s accompanying image featured a huge white Hani.

Ying Luo knew of this type of demon, but she had never imagined someone could use a Hani to pass the Library’s Martial Arts Exam and become a member of the Library.

As her gaze swept over the visible part of the newspaper, Ying Luo realized that the gigantic Hani was actually some kind of tool. Moreover, the person mentioned in the article was the same man who had come to find her yesterday.

He was indeed capable. It had been a long, long time since a Monster Tamer had passed the Library’s Martial Arts Exam to become an official member.

Ying Luo had not subscribed to the Library Newspaper, and naturally, she couldn’t openly unravel the newspaper to read it. However, wanting to know what was written on it was not a difficult matter.

It had been a long time since she had taken an interest in someone else’s affairs; she felt a rare urge to find out what kind of person Yang Yu really was.

If Yang Yu proved to be trustworthy, it might not be a bad idea to share what she knew with him.

A year of Farming had instilled in Yang Yu the habit of keeping good sleeping hours.

As dawn broke, he opened his eyes, drew back the curtains, and greeted the morning’s first light.

Letting Ying Luo share the information she knew with him would take time.

Being noticed by the big shots, selling his books, and becoming a Star-level Member of the Library also required time.

The grand Library conference was still a month away, which also required time.

As for Hidden Tasks...

Apart from them being elusive, Yang Yu was also worried that the timing of Hidden Tasks might overlap with other tasks.

Having been in the Library for so long, Yang Yu had not yet triggered any Library-related tasks. Apart from luck, this also had to do with the difficulty of triggering tasks.

Given the Library’s large scale, the tasks surely offered extraordinary rewards, had complex triggering processes, and were extremely difficult.

For this reason, Yang Yu feared having to juggle several tough tasks simultaneously; then, he would only be able to focus on one at the expense of the others.

Thus, searching for Hidden Tasks would at least have to wait until he managed to trigger a major task.

Although Yang Yu’s Level and attributes were on the lower side, how could he know whether he could handle the tasks without triggering them first?

Ying Luo, the only Monster Tamer before him, seemed very knowledgeable at first glance, which was why he had decided to make contact with her with all his might, right from the start.

However, Ying Luo was not someone easily persuaded. It would take some time for her to change her mind.

Just waiting for this period would probably be quite dull.

It wasn’t that Yang Yu didn’t want to stir up some trouble in the Library; it was just too risky.

The Library was extremely strict with Monster Tamers, imposing much heavier penalties on them than on ordinary members. Recklessly causing trouble without mastering the rhythm was like dancing on the boss’s desk; he would surely end up being paraded out by colleagues with trumpets.

Bai Jin went to class, Iyas was assigned to study cultural knowledge diligently in the Library. After some thought, Yang Yu still found himself with nothing to do.

After having breakfast, Yang Yu started wandering around alone, and eventually, his wandering took him inside the Sky-reaching Library.

Since he was already there, Yang Yu decided to continue using the Library’s search system to see if there were any books that could enhance his peculiar knowledge points.

Standing before the White Ball, no matter how many times he looked at it, he always found it unbelievable.

These White Balls recorded every single book in the Library, and their respective locations, functioning like highly efficient, super-computers.

Selecting and calling data from such a vast database was a very difficult task.

The library at the university Yang Yu had attended probably didn’t even have a fraction of the collections here, and yet, even there, searching with a computer still required a few seconds for results to appear.

With such a vast flow of information and frequent interactions, the responses from the White Ball were virtually delay-free, which piqued Yang Yu’s curiosity about who made this White Ball and on what principles it was based.

In the world of gaming, delving into the mechanics could sometimes yield unexpected rewards; however, it might also reveal glitches.

The level of technology in this world was quite subtle, but considering that the game itself was divinely created, this world, too, was in pursuit of precision.

Therefore, the operation of the White Ball was also based on principles of this world.

Yang Yu tapped lightly on the massive White Ball, which emitted a clear, resonant sound, much like tapping on glass.

Since it was possible to touch through its glass-like surface, it implied that the White Ball itself was a kind of Magic Technology.

Such ordinary information retrieval demanded a considerable amount of magic power. Yang Yu wondered who was controlling the White Ball from behind.

”Library White Ball’s principle.”

Touching the White Ball, this question emerged in Yang Yu’s mind. This time, the Library White Ball paused for a second or two before responding to Yang Yu,

”Sorry, after reviewing, your current access level is insufficient, and you cannot obtain the relevant knowledge.”

”That’s a rather dismissive answer. Hey, whoever is on the other end, if it’s convenient, could you show your face?”

The White Ball didn’t respond. After a long while, still no response, as if it didn’t consider Yang Yu’s question to be significant.

”Ugh.”

Is it really not possible?

Is this White Ball device really no different from our computers back home? Does it operate directly on some form of artificial intelligence?

It’s incredible that this world could design a magic computer, or rather, create a database with the rudimentary form of a magic computer.

Thinking it over, the Library seemed to consistently use things similar to those in the real world.

Take the Contribution Card in his hand, for example, which clearly combined a savings card, a Borrowing Card, and an ID Card; creating such an item wouldn’t be easy.

Various signs indicated the potential of this world. Maybe with just a little push, its Magic Technology could take off.

”A machine that’s used for a long time will always develop issues. Who exactly is maintaining this White Ball?”

Murmuring to himself, Yang Yu removed his hand from the White Ball and headed to the shelves to pick out a few books he was interested in, then sat down in a comfortable reading area and began to read slowly.

After Yang Yu had left, in the White Ball, a tiny speck of light gently fluttered its thin wings, seeming a bit lost as it floated around in the surrounding white fog.

This situation continued for quite a while until the next Library member approached the White Ball. Only then did the fluttering light stop moving and stealthily blend into the white mist, continuing its work.
