Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Even if We Don’t Chat, We Can Still Compete with Pictures

Bai Jin, absorbed in fiddling with a crystal ball, while Latis raised her cup and took a sip of hot tea.

”By the way, Mr. Yang Yu probably doesn’t know yet?”

”Know what?” Yang Yu, who hadn’t had his fill yet, casually replied, stuffing another piece of beef into his mouth.

”Rather than describing it in words, it’s better to operate it for real, especially since I recently bought the latest version of the crystal ball.”

Saying so, a skillful array appeared, and a crystal ball manifested in Latis’s hands.

After obtaining Bai Jin’s consent, Latis left their magical imprints in Bai Jin’s crystal ball.

Injecting magic power into the crystal ball and finding the magic imprint, Latis initiated communication.

Blue magic waves rippled inside the pristine crystal ball. Bai Jin touched the surface of the crystal ball, and the ripples stopped, transforming into a sky-like pure blue background.

This was how magicians communicated with each other.

Using this piece of pure blue background as a base, weaker magicians would first compose their messages in their own crystal balls and then project them onto another; more powerful magicians, however, could project the situation on the other end of the crystal ball in real-time without reservations.

”Even though the crystal ball lacks any complex components, as long as there is magic power, real-time communication is easily achievable. Magic really is convenient.”

Looking at the crystal ball, Yang Yu thought to himself,

”It’s just a pity that this crystal ball is far inferior to a mobile phone. This crystal ball is bigger than a palm, and whether for use or carry, it’s extremely inconvenient.

Besides communication, the only other function I can think of is using it as a cannonball when there are no shells.

Speaking of which, these crystal balls have been used for hundreds of years. Won’t they come up with something new?

Like developing emoticons for example. When bored, even if not chatting, one could still have fun comparing pictures and passing idle time.”

Just as Yang Yu was thinking this, a black and white, long-legged Panda Man with arms crossed appeared on the crystal ball.

”Proud.jpg”

Huh?

Yang Yu couldn’t help tilting his head. Are there Panda Man emoticons in this world too?

Suddenly, a new image appeared on Bai Jin’s crystal ball.

”Stop talking, I need you. Are you coming?.jpg”

The familiar rhythm, the familiar flavor, made Yang Yu tilt his head even further.

The culture of this world should be different from my original world. Why then could such similar emoticons be born?

”By the way, do you know about pandas?”

Yang Yu casually asked, and this time it was Bai Jin and her group who tilted their heads.

”Panda? We’ve never heard of it. Is it some new kind of demon?” Tico inquired.

”Maybe! I don’t know either, actually. I just heard it from others.”

Brushing it off with an excuse, Yang Yu took a sip of tea to calm his nerves.

Tico and the others did not know about pandas, so pandas probably didn’t exist in this world. But then why were there Panda Man emoticons?

And about those emoticons, you would need material to create them.

Yang Yu didn’t believe that someone in this world, who could create the same expressions as in his world, existed and was also used as emoticons.

Wait a minute!! Could it be...

Yang Yu suddenly realized that the All Things Library must have archives of past examination papers. If these archives were also available to the public... then it all seemed to make sense.

These emoticons weren’t from somewhere else; they were taken directly from his exam papers!

Thinking back, Yang Yu had drawn these two emoticons on his papers, and Tico had mentioned they were prototypes, which also somewhat explained why these emoticons had just appeared... Who on earth was using the emoticons I casually drew for commercial purposes!

Yang Yu looked towards Tico, who had prototypes in her possession, indicating she must have had some interaction with the people behind this.

”It seems you finally noticed. Yes, the patterns inside this crystal ball are indeed from your library entrance examination papers.” Seeing Yang Yu’s brows relax, Latis smiled, ”I didn’t expect a small action like yours would make this thing popular in the library. You really are interesting.”

”Oh, so what?” Responding casually to Latis, Yang Yu asked, ”Tico, who asked you to make this crystal ball?”

It wasn’t a secret in the library itself, and Tico didn’t hide anything,

”It was a collaboration between Fuer Maling and me. He was in charge of design and sales, while I purely handled the production. It’s not a particularly difficult magic device to manufacture; I can easily make batches of them.

By the way, speaking of him, I remember something. Fuer really wants to meet you. The other day, he even came over to see me, hoping I would convey to you his wish to form an acquaintance with you when I saw you again.”

Fuer Maling, that name was indeed impactful the first time you heard it.

If I called myself Horse Nails or Urgent Syrup, people would probably remember it just as quickly.

Setting aside other people’s names, Yang Yu was quite curious about who this tycoon was that could even convince Tico to willingly work for him.

”He wants to make an acquaintance? Do you know why he wants to befriend me?”

”He probably wants to share a portion of the crystal ball sales revenue with you. A few days ago, he came to see me and gave me some Contribution Value. I’m not exactly sure how much he earned, but it should be substantial; the crystal balls recently sold in this library are basically all magic devices I’ve manufactured.”

Hearing this, Yang Yu fell into deep thought.

Being able to find a business opportunity from these tiny emoticons and convincing Tico to help him make crystal balls, this person must be no ordinary individual.

Since someone wants to proactively befriend me, I naturally can’t refuse it—this might be a chance to form ties with powerful NPCs later on.

Of course, he has made quite a bit of money, and my share undoubtedly wouldn’t be small either. Going there would also mean accepting his kindness.

And with such a shrewd person, maybe I could even sell him a few ideas to get some money from him.

Although there are many things I still lack, ideas are not one of them.

If he befriends that person, I have plenty of ways to make him willingly sell his shorts to me.

The idea is my responsibility; the heavy duty to change the world is yours. This was the core thesis Yang Yu was prepared with.

Yang Yu could already imagine, after hearing his suggestions, how that man would want to change the world, struggle miserably before finally taking action, and truly change this world.

In that way, the world would also become more interesting.
