Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 155: Chapter 155 Hani King

”Good afternoon, both of you,” Yang Yu said respectfully as he approached the two Hani guards. ”I have urgent matters to discuss with His Majesty the King. I wonder if you could grant me passage.”

”What urgent matter?” the Hani guards replied earnestly, guarding the gate meticulously. ”We are under His Majesty’s orders to guard this gate, and unless it’s something of great importance, please do not disturb us.”

”I assure you, it is a matter that could change the fate of the Hani Clan,” Yang Yu feigned a gesture, his eyes filled with sincerity. ”Living here all the time must be dull for you, lacking entertainment, and what I bring is a kind of game.”

Saying this, Yang Yu took out the poker he had made earlier.

”This game is called ’poker,’ a simple deck of cards can create a thousand variations. You don’t understand the charm of this game yet, let me show you properly. Don’t be nervous, come closer, let me explain the rules to you.”

The two Hani guards exchanged glances and hopped over to Yang Yu, who then earnestly started teaching them how to play the card game.

Today, Bai Jin and Iyas also could not comprehend what Yang Yu was doing.

”Are you trying to persuade the guards to open the gate with that deck of cards?”

Iyas crossed her arms and admired Yang Yu for being able to talk and laugh with the Hani without any trace of panic.

”Though the card game is interesting, I don’t think such a thing can persuade the Hani guards.

Being a guard for the King, those two Hani must be more than meets the eye.”

Watching Yang Yu’s back, Bai Jin smiled mischievously, ”These Hani may be immune to magic, but their minds are not as resistant as their bodies. Intellectually, they’re just like children, breaking them down mentally is as easy as flipping a hand. Aye, I can imagine them being emotionally played by Yang Yu, breaking into pieces, scattered on the ground just like that Hani.”

Iyas glanced at Bai Jin, ”Bai Jin, you’re not scared, are you?”

”Scared?” Bai Jin continued to smile mischievously, ”Why would I be scared? Aye, they’re just clay pots made of mud. With a little force and a hit on their heads with the Magic Wand, they’ll be smashed to bits.”

”The Hani can be considered a natural enemy of Mages, and if a fight ensues... You’re not afraid you’ll be useless like last time.”

Having spent a lot of time with Bai Jin, Iyas had come to understand her character and pinpointed the issue sharply.

Bai Jin held her Magic Wand, dropped her head, and fell silent.

A deep feeling of indescribable loneliness surged within her.

Originally, Yang Yu’s words, ”Join my team because you are strong,” had linked their fates.

But the more she was with Yang Yu, the more Bai Jin felt she was of no use, and even... a burden to him.

Whether it was dealing with the goblins initially or the sudden illness in the Underground Maze, she had always slowed Yang Yu down.

When it came to the Library, Bai Jin thought she finally had a chance to prove herself, but she fell through and still found herself useless.

And now... today in this village filled with Hani, she could only stand by and watch helplessly.

Her heart wavering, Bai Jin didn’t know how to eliminate the growing unease within her, and now that Iyas had pointed it out, she was even more at a loss.

”Stop worrying,” Iyas looked at Yang Yu who was happily playing cards with the Hani and smiled lightly, ”Give yourself a little more confidence. He brought you along because he believes you will be useful in the future. Besides, whether or not you were helpful isn’t for you to decide.”

...

...

Grinning and playing several rounds of ghost-card draw with two Hani guards, Yang Yu had completely taken control of the conversation,

”This is the simplest card game rule. Ghost-card draw can be played with any number of people. If you lose, the winner sticks a note on the loser. How about it, is it fun?”

The two Hani guards, holding cards, were full of admiration and cheered excitedly, ”It’s such a fun game, whoever thought of this must be a genius.”

”Too kind, too kind.” Yang Yu continued gradually, ”So, both of you, this fun game should be known by the Hani King, shouldn’t it? Let it be spread throughout the Hani Village.”

”You’re right! Such a good thing must be shared! Let His Majesty the King know, Hani. I’ll go report—” Halfway through his words, the Hani guard stopped, ”Ah, I remembered, it’s almost time to get off work now, going in now, I definitely won’t be able to come back. Forget it, if you want to see the King, go in yourself! Remember not to make loud noises, Hani.”

Faced with this situation, Iyas didn’t know what to say, seeing how the palace was so unguarded and casually letting strangers in.

Yang Yu, however, naturally led the team into the Palace; since they were letting you in, not going in would be disrespecting them.

”Don’t keep looking so shocked; in the world of the Hani, this is quite normal.

If I’m not guessing wrong, those two Hani guards aren’t there guarding all day long. They are just played by ordinary Hanis.

Hani, a creature unhindered by food or clothing, free from illness, naturally doesn’t ponder overly complex matters. Everything here, for them, is just like playing house.

They are just treating everything here in the way of playing house. Those of us who come here should best conform to local customs.”

Striding confidently through the palace corridors, Yang Yu admired the Hani Palace, modeled after human palaces, complete with paintings, sculptures, and flags, all properly done.

Yet among these things, wherever there were people, they were all turned into Hanis.

Just as humans celebrate humans, Hani too celebrates Hani.

There is no greater existence than the Hani; Hani is the master of the world.

”Ordinary Hani? Playing house? Then the Hani King we’re about to meet is...”

”Don’t worry. Only that Hani is special. Once you see it, you’ll understand why it has always been worshipped by the Hanis and possesses control over the entire village.”

Preparing Bai Jin and Iyas mentally, Yang Yu followed the red carpet into the spacious palace hall.

The Hani’s palace hall was no different from a human’s royal hall, spacious and splendid.

There was no one inside, just a gigantic Hani.

Unlike the ordinary Hanis that reach up to the waist, this one was over three meters tall, with a noble white body, a thick and luxurious King’s Cloak draped over its shoulders, a red and gold Crown sparkling on its head, and holding a golden King’s Scepter, all manifesting its authority.
