Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 152: Chapter 152: The Best Way to Prevent Getting Lost

In a reading room of the Sky-reaching Library, the gradually rising sunrise replaced the Magic Lamp to illuminate the room, also revealing Fuer’s anxious visage.

It was the third day since he and his uncle had parted ways, and he would occasionally gaze out the window at the bustling city after separating from his uncle.

Originally just a member of the Library, he had hoped to live a carefree life within the peaceful All Things Library. Yet, he had never anticipated such an immense disaster drawing near.

Three and a half years later. What would the world become?

Fuer didn’t even dare to think about it, but if the splendid civilization of humans were to perish in an instant, he would surely be in deep sorrow.

Perhaps the people of the ancient era had also witnessed unimaginable disasters, which is why they resolved to build the Library to preserve the flame of human knowledge.

For a long time, Fuer had believed that the true foundation of civilization was not some rules or tools, but the transference of knowledge.

The greatness of humanity now was accumulated through bits and pieces of knowledge.

Even the most commonplace things were formed through an accumulation of countless pieces of knowledge.

People experimented bit by bit, finding reliable knowledge to pass on to the next generation, who in turn experimented and found new knowledge to pass down. Thus society progressed.

With minimal cost, one could gain knowledge from predecessors or others, use that knowledge to gather more, discover problems, and solve them. This was the underlying theme of human civilization’s development.

The All Things Library was a treasury of human knowledge.

Here, one could easily glimpse the myriad facets of others’ lives, easily access knowledge never encountered before, and learn from the past to develop towards a better future.

Fuer wasn’t afraid of the Demon King conquering the world; he was afraid of the All Things Library being completely destroyed.

The shackles of enslavement could be broken, but how long it would take to recover the lost wisdom of countless predecessors, or if it ever could be restored, was unknown.

Just like the long-lost ancient civilizations, no one now knows what those times were really like, nor will they ever know how to return to their glory.

If the Hero could indeed defeat the Demon King before the All Things Library was destroyed, it wouldn’t be bad to help him.

However, Fuer didn’t want to approach the Hero with utilitarian motives but rather hoped to offer genuine support to the Hero’s battle against the Demon King.

That was why, in the end, Fuer spoke those ambiguous words to his uncle.

Sitting down at an empty table, Fuer opened a newspaper.

It was the latest issue of the Library Newspaper, and the most eye-catching part, rendered with a flourish of ink, was Dian Wen’s defeat.

By now, such trivial news could no longer surprise Fuer.

He just glanced at it casually and soon lost interest, until... he saw a familiar name, which rekindled his attention, causing him to read carefully to the end.

”Who would have thought the person who defeated Dian Wen and the candidate who made those emoticon packs would be one and the same,” a smile finally appeared on Fuer’s worried face.

He had sent people to inquire about Yang Yu’s whereabouts. The only useful piece of information was that Tico seemed to know someone named Yang Yu.

When he treated Tico to Chilom Cake, she casually mentioned the name of the candidate in the Library Newspaper who was also her fan, and that fan was planning to take the Library exam this year.

Flipping through the exam papers, Fuer hadn’t found a second person named Yang Yu, and he could almost be certain that the Yang Yu Tico mentioned was the author of that zero-score exam paper and the same person who showed off his skills in the Martial Arts Exam.

Unfortunately, Yang Yu hadn’t been admitted into the All Things Library, and Tico didn’t know of Yang Yu’s whereabouts either.

”If it’s fated, we should meet again. I borrowed his wisdom to make money, I should share a portion with him. At least when the Demon King arrives, he won’t have to worry about survival.”

Muttering to himself, Fuer put away the Library Newspaper and began his investigation into Princess Eena.

...

On the other side,

Yang Yu was leading the team through the increasingly dense fog of the forest, heading towards the gathering place of the Hani.

As the sun rose higher, it cast dazzling sunlight over the entire forest, but the fog between the trees remained stubbornly thick, growing so dense that soon they could barely see their hands in front of them.

To prevent getting separated, Yang Yu took out a rope and tied it around the waists of Bai Jin and Iyas, having them hold onto the rope behind him.

Hold hands?

Yang Yu wouldn’t consider such an unreliable method of leading others. In case some terrifying sound emerged from within the fog, causing someone to lose their nerve and let go, getting lost in the thick mist, even he might not be able to find them again.

Besides, holding hands wouldn’t allow them to engage in battle at a moment’s notice if they encountered a demon.

Even if they could, people might get separated in the midst of battle, and they would certainly end up lost.

All things considered, leading them with a rope tied around their waists was the best way to prevent separation.

Keeping an eye on the compass, Yang Yu ventured deeper.

Suddenly, the view opened up ahead.

Without warning, the fog in the forest disappeared, and the intense sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, scattered across the forest floor as if the fog before had been all an illusion.

Looking back, the forest behind Yang Yu was still shrouded in white.

It seemed that the information gathered in the adventurer town was accurate; Hani Village was surrounded by a mysterious mist.

What they needed to consider next was how to trick a Hani into forming a contract with him, like He Meng had, and then use that Hani to successfully pass the All Things Library trial.

Releasing the rope, Yang Yu continued deeper into the forest with Bai Jin and Iyas.

After only a few steps, the babbling of a creek reached their ears.

According to the map, there shouldn’t be any river passing through here, so hearing the sound of running water now meant that Hani Village was probably not far away.

”Hani, do you want to make babies together?”

Suddenly, a voice came from ahead.

”Good, good! But I don’t have any experience.”

”That’s okay, I know a lot; I’ll teach you, it’ll be quick.”

”Then I’ll trust you this time.”

Hearing these two voices, Yang Yu quickened his pace but was pulled back by Iyas.

With flushed cheeks, Iyas grabbed Yang Yu’s hand to stop him from moving forward, whispering, ”Yang Yu, I know you’re in a hurry. But you have to consider the situation; now isn’t the time for us to interrupt.”

Bai Jin agreed, ”In broad daylight, under the clear sky, they actually do such things; it’s utterly shameless. Maybe they must be burned after all? Wait, they seem immune to magic, which means we have to use magic wands to hit them hard on the head?”

”You two really, it’s just a Hani making a child; are you overreacting? Hani, as a type of demon, has always been very pure, it’s not as dirty as you think.”

Saying this, Yang Yu broke free from Iyas’s grip, casually snapped off a couple of branches, raised them high over his head, his face full of mischief,

”Keep up with my pace; I’m taking you to see a live broadcast.”
