Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 196: Chapter 196: Off Course

Upon opening the System, the attributes of Sakura Fall and Lotcar were laid bare for all to see.

The girl named Sakura Fall. Wulas had only reached level fifteen, and her own attributes were far from high, averaging about twenty in each category, just slightly above that of an ordinary civilian, seemingly nothing special at all.

In the past, it might have been possible to discern Sakura Fall’s true identity through the System, but as a member of the All Things Library, many of the less important professions were masked by the title of Library Member.

For instance, the word ’Civilian’ that used to follow behind Yang Yu’s Mixed Species had now been obscured by the prominent title of ’Library Member.’ Perhaps the only status it couldn’t conceal was that of a rank such as the Third Princess of the Luo Ze Empire.

Yang Yu could detect a unique aura on the girl’s face, but without a prompt from the System, it was difficult to confirm whether she was a noble who had thoroughly forsaken her aristocratic life.

However, Yang Yu did not dwell on this, his gaze shifting to the panel of the giant wolf that was far more interesting than that of the girl, Sakura Fall.

Most well-informed Library Members also didn’t know what monster species Lotcar belonged to, only speculating that it might be a special variant of some wolf-type demon.

And now, there it was, clearly written on Yang Yu’s System, that this giant wolf named Lotcar belonged to the Silver Teeth Clan.

Yang Yu did not know what kind of demons existed in this world, but judging by everyone’s reaction, the Silver Teeth Clan must indeed be a very mysterious race; otherwise, no one would have failed to recognize that the wolf came from the Silver Teeth Clan.

Another point worth noting was that the Status Bar indicated that Lotcar was afflicted by a Binding Demon Curse.

Upon clicking the icon, Yang Yu could clearly see the effects of the status and its duration.

[Binding Demon Curse]: The usage of skills costs double, and if the cursed one can transform or change shape, they are forced to remain in that form, with a 20% reduction in all attributes.

Could this giant wolf perform a shape-shifting transformation?

If the curse were lifted...

Could she become like a character from an animation, transforming from a giant wolf into a girl with wolf ears and a tail?

Or shout ”Wolf Warrior, Transform!” and become a Transformer clad in animal skin.

It was quite an exciting prospect.

Yang Yu had intended to ponder over how to deal with Sakura Fall’s problem, but instead let his thoughts stray, led astray by the weird idea that had popped into his head.

”You really can’t hide anything from you.”

Clearing his throat, Yang Yu’s gaze moved away from Lotcar, facing Sakura Fall,

”It was just a courtesy to seek your acquaintance; I came here for one reason only. You must have already felt how stringent the Library is towards us Monster Tamers.

Why the All Things Library does this, you might have understood the underlying reasons to some extent.

If something similar happens again, how much longer we can stay here... unfortunately, I suppose we all lack confidence.”

”The reason I’ve come to find you,” Yang Yu said matter-of-factly, ”is, to put it bluntly, to form an alliance with you and change the status quo. I will continually collect clues and share them with you. In return, if you have any important information, I hope you can share it with me. I will surely make good use of this information to reveal to the public why the Library is so harsh on demons, to protect our rights and prevent our allies from being senselessly slain within the Library.”

Yang Yu spoke with clear logic and force, but the more he did so, the more Sakura Fall. Wulas felt he was a scammer who had been roaming the Martial World for years.

”What you’re saying makes sense. Unfortunately, I probably don’t have what you’re looking for, and I don’t have any money either.”

Sakura Fall buried her left hand into the fluffy fur of Lotcar, and though she didn’t want to remember, some unpleasant memories surfaced in her mind.

”If you really are a Monster Tamer... then there are only the two of us Monster Tamers in the whole Library. You’ve just enrolled as a freshman this year; even if you discover or notice anything, you’ll likely be completely suppressed, with no one heeding your advice.”

”It seems you do know something after all. But since you don’t wish to tell me, I won’t force you. However, one day I will make you tell me in person.”

Turning slowly, Yang Yu prepared to leave. Before departing, he intentionally raised his voice,

”Even the faintest voices can be amplified to become undeniable. The purpose of your coming here can easily be guessed – you seek refuge.

But I can tell you unequivocally that this place you seek refuge in is the very place that discriminates most against us.

Living in such a comfort, you are merely existing within a false sense of security. If one day, someone for their own benefit exposes this false security... then what will you lose? Can you truly protect what you wish to protect?

I see the deeper truth behind it all. Only by addressing those issues can true safety be obtained. If you decide not to join, I won’t insist.

I just hope you won’t have regrets.”

Before leaving, Yang Yu paused, took out a piece of paper from his chest, folded it into a plane, and tossed it towards Sakura Fall,

”There’s my address on it. If you change your mind, you can come and find me anytime. I have limited time and patience. Half a month is the longest I can wait.”

Having said that, Yang Yu took his leave again, making his exit from the street before the night fully fell.

People meeting for the first time often wax eloquent, no matter how dazzlingly they speak, they will always be met with skepticism. Nagging will only backfire.

With a wary great wolf and a dubious Sakura Fall, Yang Yu knew it would be difficult to persuade them in one go.

Thus, he immediately switched to Plan B.

If once doesn’t work, come several times.

For someone who has added so much to their charm, consistent exposure will naturally lower their guard.

Yang Yu had made up his mind.

If Sakura Fall did not respond to him within three days, he would come again, then ensure a frequency of once every three days.

Of course, Yang Yu had reservations; coming too frequently could be regarded as overeager.

And how could being said to be overeager be acceptable for a man?

Though coming too often might result in Sakura Fall’s aversion, the impression left in her mind would be palpable. Under certain circumstances, love and hate can be interchangeable.

Take a playboy, for instance. Many women detest him from the bottom of their hearts, but as soon as they receive the playboy’s ”warmth,” their hatred quickly transforms into ambiguous feelings such as ”he must have his reasons for being a playboy,” or ”he has never truly found the one he loves.” Playboys exploit these emotions to hook women who know full well what they are getting into.

While Yang Yu was well-versed in this theory, it didn’t mean he was a playboy himself.

From his point of view, playboys were simply unreasonable. With so many fun games available, they’d rather be GHS all day long. Women, after all, are not as fun as games.
