Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Take Advantage of His Illness to Claim His Life

”After the library entrance exam, the library really didn’t seem to have the slightest intention to take a break.”

Setting down her teacup, Latis made casual conversation with Tico,

”Not only do we have to deal with the explosive growth in the number of applicants for the Martial Arts Exam, but we also have to handle all sorts of commercial inductions. Moreover, one month later, we have to host the once-every-five-years library conference, which is not easy to prepare for.

Well—even without comparing, I can probably guess the results.

In the women’s division, the champion is undoubtedly you. As for the men, it’s just between those few people.”

If it had been earlier, this haughty princess might have naively thought that she could come out on top in the library’s once-every-five-years conference.

However, after witnessing the countless geniuses at the All Things Library, she gradually entertained the idea of being a contented underachiever.

Yet, being a princess of the Luoze Empire, just having such a thought was disgraceful.

Even if she didn’t match up in skills, she had to think of every possible way to close the gap between them; this too was a glory of the Royal Family.

Latis was raised in this manner.

Thus, even if this year’s library conference was filled with strong competitors, Latis would still register for the competition.

She would take it as paying tuition, accumulating experience.

Savoring the taste of the Chilom Cake, Tico toyed with her fork, the flavor of the Chilom Cake as captivating as ever,

”You can’t be sure about that. Although I barely have any rivals among my peers in the library, there is still a full month of the Martial Arts Exam before the library conference. Who knows what kind of people will pass the exam? Perhaps there will be someone able to rival me.”

”You are still too modest,” Latis said with a smile as she picked up her teacup, ”Among your peers, those who can match you are rare. Most of them have their own power bases and wouldn’t really all come to take the All Things Library exam.”

The world was so vast, and Latis knew that there could indeed be someone among her peers capable of defeating Tico.

After sipping her tea delicately, Latis couldn’t help but have the image of that unrestrained man cross her mind,

”Speaking of the Martial Arts Exam, you’ve seen the latest issue of the Library Newspaper, right? I didn’t expect that man, after the library entrance exam, would pull yet another stunt like this. Leading a team to defeat Dian Wen shows that, as adventurers, they indeed have some skills.

But I didn’t expect him to be a Monster Tamer.

The library has always had strict requirements for Monster Tamers. The Martial Arts Exam requires defeating the examiner, the library entrance exam almost demands perfect scores, and sponsorship requires several times the funds.

Only one Monster Tamer has joined the All Things Library in the past five years.”

As she spoke, Latis suddenly noticed that Tico’s eyes were filled with a resentful look.

”What’s wrong?”

Tico pursed her lips, ”He’s clearly my fan, yet he just walked away without a word.”

”It’s inevitable,” Latis said with a laugh, comforting Tico, ”Failing to pass the library exam twice, and not knowing where you live, it’s quite normal for him to leave without saying goodbye. If every fan came visiting, you’d be the one tired of it. It’s the distance that creates beauty.”

Tico didn’t respond, just took the black tea and gulped it down, her displeasure written all over her face.

Seeing Tico like that, Latis smiled,

”I don’t think that man would give up so easily.

There have been quite a few rumors about him in the library recently.

Like, he saw a question on the exam paper he couldn’t answer at all and figured he wouldn’t pass, so he drew a meme on it.

Or, he knew his limits well, wouldn’t struggle pointlessly against strong opponents, but wouldn’t go easy on an opponent he could defeat.

All quite interesting rumors.

Having faced him myself, I don’t think these rumors are unfounded.

If he really wanted to access some materials in the library, he’s bound to make a comeback.

Perhaps, that man is somewhere gathering funds, hoping to enter the library through sponsorship.”

Hearing Latis say this eased the expression on Tico’s face significantly.

”Pay more attention to the Library Newspaper. Such an impressive person, if he enters the All Things Library and becomes a member, the Library Newspaper would definitely hype it up.”

Latis continued in a half-joking manner,

”Speaking of which, today is the day for the library Martial Arts Exam.

The library originally scheduled rain for next Saturday, which is why I moved the tea party to today.

Perhaps, that guy has already returned to the All Things Library and is participating in the conference exam at the library’s guildhouse. When we go back, we might just get a pleasant surprise.”

...

...

Meanwhile, Yang Yu, Bai Jin, and Iyas strutted towards the All Things Library’s Martial Arts Exam registration area without a booking at the inn, immediately selling the carriage upon entering the urban area.

Hearing that passing the library Martial Arts Exam would grant them ordinary membership, free meals, and inclusive room arrangements.

Why bother booking an inn at all when they could get that? Just go for it!

The number of people attending the library exam in the afternoon was particularly high.

Yang Yu understood their thinking, knowing that after a morning of hard work, the examiners would be exhausted in the afternoon, like taking three bottles of laxatives, their energy drained dramatically.

It was the perfect moment to strike.

Yang Yu despised this kind of behavior from the bottom of his heart.

If he were them, he would have been right behind those people, urging them forward, letting them go ahead to be done with it while he sweeps in to take advantage.

Unfortunately, Yang Yu had taken the exam once before and knew that he couldn’t choose his opponent.

If he was unlucky, even the last one to go in might encounter an opponent in perfect condition who had never fought anyone before.

This was a lesson learned from Yang Yu’s own blood and tears.

So, while others were pushing and shoving, arguing who should go first, Yang Yu, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, gratefully accepted their kindness, steadily entering the All Things Library, following the same procedure as before, randomly drawing a number, and waiting in the lounge for the Martial Arts Exam to begin.

On the way to the library guildhouse, Yang Yu attracted quite a bit of attention.

Wizards passing by felt he looked somewhat familiar, stopped for a longer look, and after thinking hard, were shocked, wasn’t this the big shot from the Library Newspaper?

Immediately, these magicians pulled out newly purchased crystal balls from their pockets, notifying friends from all over to come and watch.

Fuer Maling also received this news, put down the book he was flipping through, called a friend with a flying carpet, and directly flew to the guildhouse.

”Number eleven.”

”Here!”

Yang Yu beamed confidently, stood up, and the guide glanced at him, then suddenly widened his eyes.

Wasn’t this the very squad that had defeated Dian Wen just last week? How could they come to take the exam again so soon, they should clearly know the library’s stance towards Monster Tamers...

Did they really have confidence in passing the library exam?
