Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 188: Chapter 188: The Innocent Bystander

”As expected, you really managed to do what we couldn’t, effortlessly persuading Chilom and serving up such a lavish feast for us.”

Sitting in her seat, Latis looked at Yang Yu with appreciative eyes, though her admiration was tinged with a hint of jealousy.

A long time ago, her relationship with Chilom was quite good, and she used to affectionately call him ’Uncle’, but for some reason, Chilom gradually began to distance himself from her and even refused to let her continue calling him ’Uncle’.

On the contrary, Chilom began to grow closer to her less capable second brother, and when the Royal Family sought Chilom’s assistance, it was mostly entrusted to her second brother.

However, these were not issues to be brought up at the moment.

Rarely could she enjoy the familiar tastes thanks to Yang Yu’s good fortune, so Latis naturally indulged in the sumptuous meal.

Yang Yu casually speared a piece of beef and popped it into his mouth, ”It wasn’t easy at all. In order to persuade him, I had to pull out all the stops. If it weren’t for Lady Tico here, you wouldn’t have had the chance to enjoy her shine.”

Tico ate the Chilom Cake in small bites. Hearing what Yang Yu said, she blushed and smiled shyly.

Latis elegantly used a knife and fork, placing a piece of beef in her mouth and wiping her lips with a napkin, ”That being said, what do you plan to do next?”

”It’s none of my business.”

Although Latis had seen through their reason for coming to the Library was not for a comfortable life, but rather for some necessary information, Yang Yu did not want to reveal too much about their next move.

”Don’t say that. Although there’s a clear rule in the Library that forbids high-star members from passing knowledge beyond the reading scope to low-star members, we can still try to help you from other avenues.

For example, we could help you find some decent jobs so you quickly become Star-level Members of the Library and gain the knowledge you seek, right, Tico?”

Having finished her Chilom Cake and neatly placed her knife and fork down, Tico nodded, ”Speaking of which, I have always been on the receiving end of your kindness, whether it’s enjoying this delicious Chilom Cake or receiving gifts from you, it has all been your one-sided goodness towards me, and it seems I have never reciprocated your kindness.”

That was all to keep you from over-saddening and doing harm to yourself.

Remembering that day’s events made Yang Yu’s head ache.

Had it not been for that day, seeing such a high number for the first time and slightly losing his composure, he wouldn’t have admitted defeat so readily.

Tico’s attribute was something he couldn’t reach even if he ascended to level 400, and besides, Tico was still very young, with plenty of time ahead to pile her attributes high.

At that moment, Yang Yu immediately regarded Tico as an insurmountable opponent and decided to regroup and fight another day.

But Iyas misunderstood his intention, preparing to draw her bow and shoot. Although Yang Yu managed to stop her in time, he was still shocked by Iyas’s actions, and only when Tico turned around did he speak those words.

If possible, Yang Yu really wanted to punish both that past Iyas and himself.

After some time spent together, Yang Yu knew that Tico wasn’t a bad person in nature.

But Yang Yu didn’t know how Tico, who took him for a significant fan, would react when she found out he was actually a fake fan.

If possible, Yang Yu would like to extricate himself from this predicament now, but having played countless games, he was naturally aware of some bizarre outcomes.

Like how one moment the female lead was a pure lotus, but upon learning that the male lead was with another, she’d turn into the embodiment of Darkness and strike him down without a word.

Yang Yu aimed to master this game without losing a single life. It wasn’t death he feared, but rather being killed off by some strange twist in the game’s plot.

When clever maneuvers were not enough, Yang Yu could only opt for relatively safe routes.

”There’s no need to trouble Lady Tico. We have already formulated a plan, and changing it now would slow our pace. I’ll find a way to obtain the knowledge I seek as soon as possible.

If Lady Tico really wants to help, could you perhaps introduce a mentor to my companion? She has always felt her abilities were lacking, and I wish for her to learn magic in the Library during this time.

I wonder if Lady Tico might have some experienced mentors we could choose from.”

Mentioned by Yang Yu, Bai Jin immediately sat up straight, sitting there reservedly.

As a newcomer, Bai Jin was unsure which mentor to choose, and if she hesitated and went around inquiring, it would only waste precious learning time.

If she could get information here, it would save her the time of slow investigation; learning even a little bit more would count.

Tico sized up Bai Jin, ”Miss Bai Jin, you certainly have a talent for magic. If you don’t mind, I can introduce you to my mentor, but be warned, he is quite strict. If you can’t persevere, it’s likely he will persuade you to quit.”

”I’m confident in my tenacity, to teach someone as talented as Lady Tico, he must be able to teach me well too,” Bai Jin said with unwavering determination in her eyes, ”Please do introduce me to him.”

Tico smiled, ”Don’t be polite. Tomorrow morning, I’ll ask my mentor, and if possible, you can come straight to class. Oh, and take out your Crystal Ball. I’ll imprint it with magic, so as soon as my mentor agrees, he can contact you through the Crystal Ball.”

”Crystal Ball...” Bai Jin clenched her hands slowly, ”I don’t have such a thing...”

Ever since she came to her senses, Bai Jin had been wandering around with her mentor, almost always together, rendering a Crystal Ball unnecessary.

After being separated from her mentor by life and death, plagued by illness, she did not want to trouble others and always ventured alone to find a cure for her ailment.

Now, Bai Jin had found a team she could rely on.

But apart from herself, there were no other magicians in the team, so there was no need for a Crystal Ball, and thus, Bai Jin had none.

Watching as Bai Jin lowered her head, Tico began chanting magic, and a small Magic Array appeared in the palm of her hand, followed by the appearance of a Crystal Ball just the right size to be cupped in the palm.

”If you don’t have one, then take this as a gift! Although it’s just a prototype, it has all the functions. Of course, this is not as a stance of your team leader’s idol but from the standpoint of a senior.”

Bai Jin hesitated, unsure whether to accept Tico’s Crystal Ball, until Yang Yu gave her a nod.

”Since Tico has offered, to refuse would be ungracious. Just boldly take it, and if anything happens, I have your back.”
