Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 170: Chapter 170: Relativity of Luck

After defeating Misha, Yang Yu joined the Hanis in their jubilation. Then, he casually called over a small Hani to open the Treasure Box and present its contents.

The Hani, being magic creatures, were not particularly interested in treasures. Furthermore, Yang Yu had been promoting the idea that the relics left by the Dark Origin were imbued with the Dark Breath and had to be handled by him for safety. The Hanis almost gleefully handed the entire Treasure Box over to Yang Yu.

This time, the contents that burst out of the Treasure Box were far more abundant than Yang Yu had imagined.

[Legendary Magic Wand Sigh Seed.

This magic wand was once the beloved possession of the Centipede Queen, one of the Four Heavenly Kings of the Ancient Demon King. After the hero defeated the Centipede Queen, he gifted this weapon to the Child of the Stars.

Basic Intelligence +300, Intelligence +10%, Area Damage +10%

Equipment requirements: Intelligence over 2000 (Note: There seems to be something strange inside this wand. If the intelligence is insufficient, it’s very likely to be completely devoured by the hidden entity inside)

Unlocked Status: Locked]

Yang Yu first took out a magic wand that looked like an old tree’s roots, with seven red beads arranged at the top in the shape of the Big Dipper.

The requirement of 2000 intelligence for this wand seemed rather demanding. It appeared that the wand had a special form that could be unlocked upon meeting certain conditions.

Having obtained another Legendary level weapon, Yang Yu carefully placed this weapon at the bottom of the system tools box. He then pulled out a deep blue key from the box.

This key, except for its color, looked almost exactly the same as the one he already held — very plain, without any decoration.

As soon as he took hold of this key, the progress in his Task panel for [Ancient Brave Lox] increased by one.

Misha’s [Magic Hall] was still under construction, with many rules not yet firmly established. Yang Yu hadn’t expected it to be so easy to obtain the key.

Strategizing through an Underground Maze without established rules, getting the key without decrypting it?

It would require a few more attempts to find out, though sadly, such good opportunities might not come again.

Anyone that Hero Lox would deem worthy to be an underground city boss was not simple.

With their capabilities, they could easily conquer an Underground Maze and mold it to what their own mazes should look like.

Misha was just unlucky to have encountered the Hani Maze that countered her own strengths and thus faced defeat.

Yang Yu took a third item from the Treasure Box — it was a Skill Scroll, which upon opening, turned out to be [Fallen Divine Tears], the same skill Misha had just used.

[Fallen Divine Tears, General Skill, uses the user’s Luck value as a cost to obtain a momentary burst of potential. One point of Luck corresponds to a 100% increase in the main attribute. The user may freely choose how much Luck to exchange for Strength. (Note: The maximum value is 10. Once the Luck value turns negative, the maximum value changes to 3)]

Seeing this skill, Yang Yu’s body tensed in shock.

A skill that could exchange Luck for Strength?

Was this skill meant for humans?

With just one point of Luck, life was already so difficult, I can’t even imagine what turning it negative would entail. Wouldn’t that mean attracting misfortune?

Realizing this, Yang Yu suddenly understood.

The Catastrophe Witch must also belong to the Ancient Brave Warrior’s forces... She ought to have been a heroic figure, so why then did she have such a nickname?

Could it be that when she was fighting the Demon King, she accidentally reduced her Luck value to the negative?

The thought was terrifying.

No wonder her Underground Maze was unable to expand into a new underground city beneath her Hani Maze... It had always been impossible.

It turned out it wasn’t that I was extremely lucky, but rather...

She was just terribly unlucky.

An unlucky person meeting someone even more unlucky made the former’s luck seem relatively good.

This was the so-called relativity of luck.

Continuing to pull good items from the Treasure Box, Yang Yu stuffed all the decent but unnecessary items into the System to exchange for money another day.

In the end, what remained in front of him was a pyramid-shaped structure enclosed within a Crystal Ball.

Picking it up and weighing it, the object was lighter than he had imagined, and when thrown, it could even float in the air like a balloon.

”The Incomplete Maze”

Looking at the identification information on the System, Yang Yu gently stroked his chin.

He hadn’t expected to obtain the maze itself from the ”Hall of Wisdom,” but he didn’t know how to use it. It must be quite complicated, otherwise, no one would know how to create a maze now.

There were definitely many things he hadn’t acquired yet... such as, the large sums of money and equipment meant to motivate adventurers to actively strategize.

The maze monsters increasing by level would also serve as a good Experience pool.

Now, Yang Yu was like someone who had received a tightly closed clam. Although the clam had spat out the largest pearl, there were still many small pearls inside; to thoroughly reap the benefits, some skills were necessary.

The things he needed to investigate had increased again, and Yang Yu was increasingly desperate for the Wisdom of the Library.

After collecting the spoils of war, Yang Yu organized the giant Hani and other Hanis to clear the entrance blocked by the Hani Fragments.

Apart from the Hani Fragments clattering onto the pristine Underground Maze, the whole process was uneventful.

The smaller Hanis had filled some dirt into the maze first, allowing the giant Hani to jump out of the hole with a gentle leap.

To be honest, Yang Yu had originally hoped that the falling Hani Fragments would hit Misha hard, overwhelm her, and prevent her from using Magic.

As a result, the Hani Fragments really did, along with rocks, wood, and gears, block the entrance.

According to the theory of relative luck, this wasn’t Yang Yu being extraordinarily lucky but rather Misha being extraordinarily unlucky, as she had completely blocked her own way out.

Yang Yu even suspected that, even if he hadn’t specifically ordered Iyas to send the Hani Fragments to the seventh floor, the left-over Hani Fragments above would still go against Misha’s wishes, solidly blocking the entrance and allowing Yang Yu and his team to trample her mercilessly.

In conclusion, Yang Yu was even more determined not to learn the Skill ”Fallen Divine Tears” and would absolutely not allow his team to learn it either.

While this Enhancement Skill was potent, the cost was too great.

In Yang Yu’s view, the most appropriate use for this skill was a mutual destruction; being unlucky, sometimes living was more tiring than being dead.

Climbing up the rope ladder the Hanis had thrown down, Yang Yu reached the eighth floor of the Hani Maze.

The eighth floor of the Hani Maze was already in disarray; the seventh floor had become a complete ruin, and on the scorched ground of the eighth floor, golden gears, deformed by the high temperatures of the ”White Destruction Light,” were scattered around.

Fortunately, amidst the misfortune, the surrounding walls had not been damaged, which meant that Yang Yu and his team could still escape the underground maze through a secret passageway.
