Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 150: Chapter 150 Set a Small Goal

Back at the inn, sitting in the restaurant on the first floor, one hand propped up his face while the other idly picked up a piece of salad and put it into his mouth. Yang Yu seemed somewhat dejected.

A week of preparation had borne fruit; they had successfully defeated Dian Wen, only for Cheng Yaojin to spring out halfway through.

Bai Jin and Iyas had never seen Yang Yu with this kind of expression. Thinking he was disheartened by the loss to Tiya Luo, they both started to offer words of consolation.

But in fact, Yang Yu was worried about strategy.

After leaving, he had inquired on the side about how much it would cost to become a member of the Library.

Ignorance was bliss, but the reality gave him a shock.

With his identity as a Monster Tamer, it would cost at least a hundred million to become a Library member.

Yang Yu felt once more the deep-seated malice the All Things Library held for Monster Tamers. When he first acquired the secondary profession of Monster Tamer, he was excited for a while, but now he felt it was something of a burden.

Shu Jing came back with borrowed books and saw Yang Yu and the others dining in the living room.

The Library exam had ended, and the scope for next year’s examination had been set, causing a significant changeover in the bookstore’s inventory. But as soon as those books were available, they were bought up by those preparing for next year’s Library exam, leaving the shelves without books to borrow for several days, only easing up in the last two or three days.

Shu Jing was indeed lucky, having read over 60% of the books this year. With a bit more hard work, by next spring, he should be able to finish all the unread ones, leaving time to prepare seriously for the exam.

Seeing Shu Jing return, Yang Yu waved him over and asked him about why the All Things Library was so harsh toward Monster Tamers.

As both creditor and benefactor, Shu Jing was naturally willing to tell all that he knew.

”...that’s the way it is. There have been multiple accidents in the history of the Library caused by demons. For some unknown reason, demons that enter the All Things Library sometimes become inexplicably violent. If not controlled, they could cause indiscriminate destruction. Powerful Monster Tamers rarely experience this, so it’s somewhat understandable that the Library is stricter with them.”

”Somewhat understandable,” he muttered.

Stirring the salad in front of him, no tasks popped up on Yang Yu’s interface.

Demons not turning violent elsewhere but specifically within the Library’s range certainly involved a plot and surely a task.

The absence of tasks on his interface also meant that Shu Jing was not the NPC to trigger the task.

The people at the All Things Library were not fools. They must have noticed this but still falsely claimed that these tragedies resulted from Monster Tamers’ poor supervision.

Perhaps, the Library’s higher-ups were deliberately hiding something.

Speaking of which, while I was traveling around with He Meng, I sensed many unusual stares.

It’s possible that, to cover up the truth, the Library deliberately spread dangerous rumors about Monster Tamers across the continent.

Of course, these were just Yang Yu’s speculations. After all, he was the only Monster Tamer he had seen so far, and all his conjecture was based on his own experiences.

If the majority of Monster Tamers were not quite right in the head, then the Library’s actions were justifiable, and he would have to accept defeat.

Whether there was a task or not, he would know by entering the Library and triggering NPCs one by one.

However, all this was moot if he couldn’t get into the All Things Library in the first place—he could only watch helplessly.

Library exam, fail. Martial Arts Exam, fail. Pay for information, no money.

Right now, the only thing to do was to set himself a modest goal — to figure out a way to earn that hundred million.

Selling the Legendary Weapon and everything else saleable on me should net me a billion.

But Yang Yu really didn’t want to sell that Legendary Weapon, at least, not now.

There was still an entire year before the next Library membership examination, and Yang Yu couldn’t wait that long; sponsorship for a Library membership was only available in June and October, and Yang Yu couldn’t think of a way to raise a billion within a month or four months.

As for the weekly Martial Arts Exam...

The fastest way to pass the Martial Arts Exam was to improve one’s own team, but the reason Yang Yu and his team were in the All Things Library was to find ways to improve.

Skills, Racial Essences that could elevate the Level cap, and the layout of the underground city were all mysteries to Yang Yu. Running around like a headless chicken, he was simply wasting time.

”If only I had a left hand that could negate all Magic, or if my body was naturally immune to Magic.”

Leaning back in his chair, Yang Yu interlocked his fingers and cradled his head.

He decided to leave it at that for today and would ask an information broker for strategies to improve Magic Resistance tomorrow... that was the only plan.

Just as Yang Yu resolved this, Shu Jing continued the conversation,

”Speaking of Magic Immunity, a little past Lati Dela Forest in Traka Forest, there live creatures named Hani. They look like pottery jars with three unevenly-sized oval black holes for faces. They are naturally Magic Immune and considered the bane of Magicians; hardly any Magician would willingly go there.”

Hani? Isn’t that the mascot created by some game company? So they exist in this world too...

Upon hearing the name and description of these creatures, an idea sparked in Yang Yu’s mind. He released his hands from his head. Whether these creatures were the same as the ones in his mind or not, what mattered was their total Magic Immunity.

”Tell me more about these creatures in detail.”

...

At this moment, inside the consulate of the Sethis Kingdom.

Fuer Maling was enjoying tea with his uncle, Rotis Maling.

To acquire information from the Library collected worldwide promptly, the three major Human nations had all built consulates within the jurisdiction of the Library.

The affairs within the consulates, both major and minor, were led by Nobles or Royal Families like Latis, who were Advanced Members of the Library.

Clearly, Fuer Maling didn’t qualify for that. He wasn’t even a Noble; he was just there to take a glimpse at his uncle.

Fuer’s grandfather was a member of the Library, but he also had another identity - the only child of Duke Serti. Yet, he didn’t lust for power and chose instead to join the All Things Library, distancing himself from the world’s clamor.

This infuriated Fuer’s great-grandfather, who had only this one child. So he played the card of ”Ah, I’m not long for this world. If you, my unfilial son, don’t come back and see me soon, I’ll ascend to heaven and walk shoulder to shoulder with the sun,” luring Fuer’s grandfather to abandon the comfortable Library life and return home.

When Fuer’s grandfather arrived home, he found it was all a ruse. Waiting for him was an arranged marriage and a large estate.

Under the threat of his great-grandfather’s ”If you don’t stay, get a wife, and bear me a strong grandson today, I’ll just die on the spot,” Fuer’s grandfather had no choice but to settle down, get married, and have two sons and a daughter.

Later.

After Fuer’s great-grandfather passed away, his uncle Rotis Maling inherited the dukedom, and Fuer’s grandfather, with his father, reverted to Civilian status, returning to the embrace of the All Things Library.

Fuer didn’t find anything wrong with this, to be honest, he quite enjoyed his current lifestyle.

It just puzzled him why his uncle had suddenly sought him out.
