Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 118: Chapter 118 You Can Never Imagine

”Speaking of which, it’s that time already. The early spring of March and April has faded, the lazy May is almost halfway through, and here, one can gradually catch the scent of early summer.”

Latis’s homeland, unlike the All Things Library, doesn’t have distinct seasons. Summer arrives a month later than other places,

”The All Things Library is also getting busier. At the end of this month comes the annual entrance exams. It’s uncertain how many people will pass the exams to become members of the Library this year.”

After finishing the Chilom Cake, Tico still looked somewhat wistful and took a while before continuing Latis’s thoughts.

”It should be about the same as last year. It feels so troublesome, the number of people taking the Martial Arts Exam always skyrockets after the entrance exams. In the end, not many get through.”

Days from the past couldn’t help but surface in front of Latis, ”After all, in the Martial Arts Exam, one has to face geniuses like you from within the Library. When I first became a member, it took quite a bit of effort.”

She used to think of herself as a child of heaven, but her first library entrance exam ended in a hasty failure, and her performance in the Martial Arts Exam was far from satisfactory.

Having no other choice, she had to retake a year of study, only passing the exams to enter the Library and become a member in her second attempt.

A blessing in disguise, it was due to that exam failure that Latis shed a lot of her arrogance, allowing her to become friends with many more people.

”Speaking of which, your country is still at war with Wansheng Country.” As Tico spoke, she lowered her head, ”If the war gets intense or when it ends, will you leave here?”

”It’s inevitable that I will leave,” Latis said, raising her teacup then setting it down again, ”I came here not only to collect intelligence for my country but also to learn magic. When my course is over, I will probably leave.”

Hearing this news, a trace of melancholy arose in Tico’s eyes, likely because, as too much of a genius, she didn’t have many true friends. Latis was one of them.

Just thinking that she might no longer see Latis’s face again or taste Chilom Cake left Tico inexplicably heartbroken.

Trying to maintain a smile, Latis reassured Tico, ”Don’t act as though I’m not long for this world. Just because I’m leaving the Library doesn’t mean we’ll never meet again. It shouldn’t be too difficult for you to travel once. As long as the Empire hasn’t been overturned, I am always ready to welcome you for a visit. I’ll treat you to Chilom Cake again then.”

”Really? You better not be lying to me.”

”I swear on the honor of the Royal Family, I, Latis Qimia Roz, will not break my word.”

Having made a promise, Tico brightened up, and Latis skillfully changed the subject,

”Speaking of which, there’s news that Chilom will also be taking the Library membership exams this year, that is, the inventor of the Chilom Cake you just ate, will come to the All Things Library.

Constantly pursuing the ultimate culinary delights, it seems he has also reached a bottleneck. My family has some connections with him, so I’ll invite him to our estate here for dinner and will try to coax him into showing off his skills.

The Chilom Cake made by his own hands will surely be even tastier than what you’ve just eaten.”

...

...

No problem, the fever has completely subsided.

Placing his hand on Bai Jin’s forehead, Yang Yu breathed a sigh of relief.

Returning to their temporary residence in the town, after a day of tending, Bai Jin’s body temperature finally returned to normal.

But Bai Jin still looked miserable, fighting the last bout with the sickness. The icon for her weak condition was fading, and it was only a matter of time before the status of illness would disappear.

As expected, by evening, Bai Jin’s frail status had completely vanished, and she slowly opened her eyes to see Yang Yu and Iyas, who had been keeping vigil by her side.

Yang Yu hadn’t slept all night, fearing any trouble might befall Bai Jin, ”How does your body feel?”

Slowly sitting up, Bai Jin incredulously moved her fingers, feeling incredibly light from head to toe, as if her illness had truly been cured.

In the past, she had dreamt countless times about being plagued by illness, suffering in pain before completely leaving this world.

Bai Jin had a premonition that those nightmares would finally become a thing of the past, and the future seemed within reach.

If it weren’t for Yang Yu, if he hadn’t reached out to her then, she feared she would have embarked on a completely different path, one leading to an abyss whose end she couldn’t fathom.

Bai Jin reached out to gently grasp the hem of Yang Yu’s clothes, unable to control her tears any longer, which fell with a plop; not knowing how else to express her feelings, she awkwardly squeezed out three words from the corner of her mouth.

”Thank you.”

...

Faced with Bai Jin’s genuine display of emotion, Yang Yu didn’t know what to do, so he kicked the game table behind him a little farther away.

You’d never expect what your teammates do while waiting for you to recover.

At first, when Yang Yu carried Bai Jin back to the inn, it was like taking care of a travel frog, wishing he could watch over her 24 hours a day.

But gradually, Yang Yu realized something, that being anxious was useless.

The medicine was already given to Bai Jin, and what was needed for recovery was just time.

Caring for Bai Jin was so boring over time, and some things were not for a man to do, so Yang Yu called over Iyas and He Meng to help.

Afterward, Yang Yu made a deck of cards, and the three of them would play a game of Landlord’s Game in the corner of Bai Jin’s room.

It turned out that playing cards with Iyas was a huge mistake, as she often had all sorts of ace bombs and plane wings, while he typically only had a scattered hand of 34567 lacking a 7.

Finally, when he became the landlord, and Iyas was rarely stuck with bad cards, he was winning smoothly with only a three bomb and a two left, feeling smug in his heart, ”You think you can counter me? You can counter me with your seventeen cards? If you can, I’ll eat this deck of cards right here.”

He Meng played a bomb and a plane and finished with all the cards, leaving Yang Yu stripped down to his underwear.

At first, He Meng found the human game that Yang Yu mentioned very interesting and played many rounds; but because Yang Yu kept losing, it gradually became boring, so He Meng rolled away to sleep.

This gave Yang Yu a chance.

Yang Yu immediately made a simple set of Chinese chess with a wooden board and a pen, easily crushing Iyas with his intelligence after explaining the rules.

Iyas, naturally not one to take a one-sided beating, complained that Yang Yu’s game rules only benefited him and were not friendly to a novice like her. So, Iyas brought out her hometown’s game of intelligence, wanting to showdown with Yang Yu, only to be thoroughly crushed by him.

As long as it wasn’t a matter of luck, Yang Yu was completely confident he could defeat Iyas.

Losing game after game, Iyas even began to miss the feeling of soundly beating Yang Yu in Landlord’s Game.

Just as Iyas was about to suggest a few more rounds of Landlord’s Game, Bai Jin slightly opened her eyes, and Yang Yu quickly changed the subject and ended the game; otherwise, the competitive Iyas would surely have kept him playing cards until dawn.
