Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 123: Chapter 123 Straight to the Point

Inside the cake shop, four people and one Slime sat around a square table.

Iyas and Bai Jin sat on either side of Yang Yu, while He Meng lay softly on Bai Jin’s lap. The two young girls curiously surveyed the inside of the cake shop, their eyes continually sweeping over the beautiful cakes in the display cabinet, and the rich aroma made them feel light all over.

After receiving the menu from the waiter, Yang Yu glanced at it.

The cakes on the menu were all unheard of and outrageously priced, with many of them costing over a thousand.

After browsing for a while, Yang Yu made up his mind, ”Four servings of Ba Fei, and three pieces of this kind of cake.”

The beautiful waitress smiled sweetly, ”Please wait a moment.”

Yang Yu hadn’t expected to be able to eat Ba Fei in this world, but upon reflection, there were plenty of ice spells here, so making ice wouldn’t be too difficult, and having Ba Fei wasn’t something surprising.

A few minutes later.

The waitress brought the desserts to Yang Yu’s table, one Ba Fei per person, while the cakes were given to Bai Jin, Iyas, and Shu Jing.

Iyas, holding a spoon, examined the pointed Ba Fei. She had never imagined that humans would use ice as food. Curiously taking a bite, her whole being nearly melted.

Bai Jin shared quite a bit of her Ba Fei with He Meng. He Meng moved its gelatinous body and swallowed the Ba Fei. Clover was nice, but occasionally eating something other than clover wasn’t bad either.

Swallowing her saliva and sitting opposite Yang Yu, Shu Jing placed her hands on her thighs, feeling out of place and anxious as if she shouldn’t be here.

She had been unwittingly brought here! Judging by their attire, they must be adventurers, certainly not candidates coming to take this year’s exams.

All I did was return a book and borrow another, why had it turned into this...

Can I really eat these things in front of me?

This could be a trap. My mother had said that adventurers are very cunning. If they just wanted to eat the cakes here and forcibly brought me here to make me pay, I couldn’t afford it.

Scooping up a few spoonfuls of Ba Fei, Yang Yu looked at the always reserved Shu Jing across from him, ”Don’t worry, I won’t make you pay. Just eat.”

Hearing this, Shu Jing tightened up and said timidly, ”If there’s anything you want to ask, just, just ask quickly. I’m short on time, I need to go back to study for my exams...”

Her voice grew softer as she spoke, trailing off to a whisper.

”I have many questions, and they will take up quite a bit of your time. The Ba Fei and cake in front of you are a welcome gift. As long as you’re willing to answer my questions, I’ll give you a proper reward.”

Saying this, Yang Yu took out a 1000 Gold Coin from his bag and pushed it toward Shu Jing,

”I don’t know if this will be enough?”

”This, that...” Shu Jing, flustered, quickly refused, ”If you have any questions just ask. You don’t need to give me any reward. Moreover, giving me so much...”

”Don’t be shy.” Yang Yu with a smile on his face, ”You look so smart, you surely know what I want to find out. As you can see, my companions and I are here at the All Things Library for the first time and know very little about this place; you are the only one we can ask.”

When encountering someone in trouble, one should lend a hand in time.

Her mother’s words echoed in her ears, giving Shu Jing the courage to slowly loosen her tense hands, pick up the spoon, and take a bite of the sweet and silky Ba Fei.

”Your kindness, I accept it. These desserts are enough for a reward. Ask anything you want, I’ll try my best to answer.”

Seeing that Shu Jing was willing to talk, Yang Yu breathed a sigh of relief.

If Plan A failed, he would have no choice but to consider implementing Plan B.

If gentle measures failed, then it would be time to apply some pressure.

For example, finding a deserted alley, cornering Shu Jing against a wall, and demanding... paid consultation.

Yang Yu believed that at that moment, Shu Jing would be more than willing to answer his questions.

The only downside was that such actions might make him seem like a street thug farming for Experience, though in the end, it would be hard to tell who was exploiting whom.

”I’ll just get straight to the point then,” Yang Yu cleared his throat, ”first tell me what exactly happened to the All Things Library to make it so vibrant and lively? It doesn’t resemble a library at all, and here I was, looking forward to it.”

Shu Jing was somewhat surprised, ”You don’t know... I thought it was common knowledge.”

”I think that most of the world still doesn’t know. If it wasn’t for some things we needed to research, we wouldn’t have traveled thousands of miles to come here.”

Continuing to appeal to her emotions and explaining rationally, Yang Yu put on a face that suggested he was here purely out of necessity.

Shu Jing fell for it and told Yang Yu and his group about the library’s history without holding anything back.

The era when the All Things Library was established is untraceable, it was founded to protect the knowledge passed down by humanity.

To safeguard humanity’s precious knowledge, a large number of magicians voluntarily organized and joined the library, becoming the first group of Guardians.

Initially, the All Things Library was no different from any other ordinary library; it just had more books, and anyone could borrow books from the All Things Library with a small fee for a Borrowing Card.

It could be called a Golden Age, but also a Dark Age.

Human internal wars broke out.

In order to gain access to the terrain intelligence and magic technology levels of enemy countries, high-ranking officials from various countries rushed into the All Things Library like mad.

Though termed ”mad,” their methods were actually very sophisticated; they took advantage of the librarians’ inattentiveness to wantonly destroy and tamper with data painstakingly organized by several generations, solely to ensure that their adversaries would not obtain any intelligence or technology of their own countries.

Ironically, they hoped to acquire their adversaries’ intelligence and technology from the library.

At that time, numerous powers extended olive branches to the All Things Library.

If the library refused, they would surely find ways to flatten it.

What they could not have, they preferred destroyed so no one else could have it either.

The situation was extremely critical, and the library’s leadership did not choose to sit idly by; they took a series of measures, including but not limited to temporarily closing the library, supporting and aiding benevolent Monarchs, and striking against unruly ”Researcher” armies with an iron fist to prove that the All Things Library was not a pushover, not someone anyone could bully.

Eventually, various nations signed a series of treaties with the All Things Library, the most important of which stated that no matter what happened in human wars, the library must never be involved again.

The All Things Library does not deny using some extremely dark methods to ultimately ensure today’s neutrality.

In order to maintain neutrality, they also do not mind using some extremely dark methods again.

This deterred human nations from casually targeting the All Things Library.

However, the issues with the All Things Library had just begun, following the war, the primary issue was reconstruction...
