Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 137: Chapter 136: Discerning the Mood of the Teacher Who Set the Question

Having a successful business deal with Chilom, Yang Yu made a killing.

But he didn’t get carried away and move into a better inn. Instead, he stayed low-key at Shu Jing’s modest little inn.

He turned a deaf ear to the rumors that ”someone actually joked and laughed with Luoze Empire’s number one chef, Chilom,” and ”that person squared off against the Third Princess of Luoze and even gained her appreciation.”

When the streets buzzed with these two topics, Yang Yu just lay back in a chair on the first floor of the restaurant, flipping through a book.

Seeing him like this, no one could associate this disheveled adventurer with the protagonist of those stories.

Such tabloid news would soon be washed away by other sensational headlines and vanish into the annals of time, saving Yang Yu the trouble of dealing with the curious.

Yang Yu had already signed up for the Library entrance exam with Bai Jin.

Each of them received a card with their photo on it, complete with the location of the examination room, personal information, seat number, and candidate number. On the back, there were even the time of the exam and various instructions, much like a college entrance examination admission ticket.

The registration fee for the All Things Library entrance exam was five hundred thousand, and Yang Yu and Bai Jin spent a total of one million just to sign up.

There was a minor incident during the processing of the exam cards.

Hearing from Shu Jing that the exam actually cost five hundred thousand, Yang Yu decisively decided to abandon the idea of letting He Meng and Iyas just go through the motions and only took Bai Jin to the exam.

On the way to register, Bai Jin seemed somewhat gloomy. Yang Yu casually asked her why, and Bai Jin grabbed his hand,

”About yesterday, I already heard from Iyas that you not only used stratagems to deceive that girl named Tico, but you also charmed the Princess named Latis from the Empire. They even got into an argument over you, trying to snatch you away!

Ah-heh-heh, I know, you left me yesterday and went there with Iyas just to make that woman named Latis succumb.

So, I can’t satisfy you anymore, huh? Want to find a new girl, torment her, make her kneel at your feet, and sing ’Conquest.’

Tell me in detail what happened between you and that woman! I really care about it!

If you don’t tell, I’ll curse you!”

Originally, Bai Jin just wanted to ask casually, merely seeking to understand the situation, but her habit of awkwardly phrasing things like ”kneel” made it impossible for her to ask normally.

Hearing the names Latis and Tico, the passersby couldn’t help but associate them with those rumors, and they turned their heads to look at Yang Yu, noting the resemblance to the chef described in those stories, and became intrigued.

Noticing the curious glances from those around, Yang Yu quickly covered Bai Jin’s mouth and hurriedly pulled her into an alley,

”Don’t think nonsense, that was just an accident. If I was really interested in women, I would’ve made a move on Iyas long ago. Not many can resist Iyas’ charm.”

Hearing this, Bai Jin shuddered. ”Not interested in women” implies that Yang Yu could be...

”Don’t think nonsensical things, I don’t like men either! I just think...”

This game isn’t about romantic nurturing, nor can you collect those shy CGs, so why waste effort on romance.

Plus, if you get involved in a romance, you might end up saying things like ”After this battle, I’ll go home to get married,” or ”My child is about to be born, once I go back, I’ll be able to see my kid’s face,” or ”Wife, wait for me.” That would just be asking for trouble with a bunch of death flags planted on your head.

Frankly, my luck has always been bad. If I carelessly plant flags without realizing it, it’s like I’m asking for a quicker death.

”I’m still too young and there’s a lot I don’t understand. Besides, our adventure has just begun. We can think about it slowly after the adventure is over. I’m not in a hurry, so what are you worried about? It’s like the eunuch is more anxious than the Emperor.”

Taking in what Yang Yu said, Bai Jin relaxed and sincerely took his criticism to heart.

The rest of the registration process went on without a ripple, and Yang Yu and Bai Jin swiftly completed the procedure to take part in the entrance exam, even receiving a Library exam commemorative handbook.

Inside was noted many of the Library’s rules and a long novel—the complete version of the story that Shu Jing had told them about.

Returning to the inn where they were staying, what faced Yang Yu and his group again were Shu Jing’s thick notebooks.

The books in the bookshop were not unsellable; it’s just that the prices were astronomical, far beyond what civilians could afford. Shu Jing could only use his library card to borrow books time and again, read them over and over before jotting down key knowledge points in his notes for recording and reviewing.

Shu Jing’s room was filled with such notes. Yang Yu generously took care of his family business, and he was naturally willing to share these notes with Yang Yu and the others.

To bring hope to the ”locals” living in the All Things Library District, the All Things Library had an unwritten rule that each year’s exam questions would be based on topics that appeared in the books from the bookshop.

In theory, as long as one could remember all the knowledge in the bookshop, they could get admitted to the Library.

Based on this, those who wish to gain admission into the Library need only know the books that will be available in the bookshop for an entire year to review and prepare for the exam.

In fact, after the end of each year’s exam, the Library would immediately update the collection in the bookstore, provide a list to inform those who failed what the scope for next year’s exam would be, take the opportunity to sell some books, and make a small profit.

However, knowing the scope of the exam, those who could pass the Library’s exam each year were still very few.

After all, there were too many books and too many and varied knowledge points in the bookstore provided by the Library.

An ordinary person might take up to half a month just to thoroughly understand one book, let alone all the books provided in the bookstore within a year.

To gain admission into the Library, one could only rely on accumulation and... luck.

Every year the books in the bookstore would change, but there was a chance that the books once displayed would be put on display again.

People living in the ”slums” their entire lives couldn’t save up enough five hundred thousand, and they treasured every opportunity to take the exam.

They would continuously study and accumulate knowledge.

As long as they learned enough, the bookstore’s books would eventually be those they had read, and they would be able to pass the Library exam with confidence.

But that’s just in the ideal scenario.

In reality, the Library would withdraw some outdated books each year and add new ones, making it impossible that they would have seen all of them.

Many chose the year in which they had covered over 70% of the books in the bookstore to start studying for the exam, racing against time to read the remaining 30% they had not yet read, then review and prepare for the exam, and afterward leave it to fate and the mood of the examiners.

This year, Shu Jing was fortunate as he covered over 80% of the books in the bookstore.

So he didn’t wait for the last year of the threshold but chose this year, a godsend opportunity.
