Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 134: Chapter 134 I Won’t Fall for Your Tricks

”Princess Latis,”

Yang Yu turned completely to face Latis, straightening the wrinkled collar of his shirt,

”I provided Mr. Qilom with something he was interested in, and based on those things, Mr. Qilom rewarded me with five million. This is a transaction between Mr. Qilom and me, mutually consented to. I’m afraid it’s not your place as an outsider to interject.

As for how I use that five million, that’s my freedom.

Princess Latis, if you saw two merchants conducting a large transaction outside, would you also go and intervene, demanding the two to write a list of the purposes of their goods and how they intend to use the money, and lay it out on your table?”

Princess Latis’s expression turned ugly. As the Third Princess of the Luoze Empire, it was only proper for others to treat her with respect, yet she had never encountered someone so aggressive towards her.

”As a member of the Library, it is my duty and obligation to investigate when I see suspicious behavior.”

”Suspicious behavior?” Yang Yu scoffed, ”Which eye of yours saw me acting suspiciously? On the contrary, the most suspicious person here is you.

How much of my conversation with Mr. Qilom have you eavesdropped on? Entering without Mr. Qilom’s permission and uninvitedly walking into the dining room as though you own the place, does this comply with your etiquette?

Spouting etiquette and demanding it from others while not leading by example yourself, listening in on others’ conversations, and entering someone else’s property without permission, your double standard seems all too domineering, doesn’t it?

If others didn’t know you were the Third Princess of the Luoze Empire, you’d probably be the first one caught and questioned.”

”That is...”

Latis began to explain, but Yang Yu raised his hand to interrupt her,

”Do you really think that just because you are from the Royal Family, you can disregard others’ feelings and act recklessly?

Though I do not know what transpired between you and Mr. Qilom or what conflict lies between you, I would ask that you try to empathize and put yourself in Mr. Qilom’s position.

How would you feel if the moment you were excited to do something, someone you had a dispute with suddenly barged in unreasonably, ruining your mood?

It’s unlikely you’d understand.

After all, compared to us commoners, you are always perched so high aloft, never wanting to swap places and only imposing your Royal standards on others.

Tell me, your actions just now, how do they resemble a member of the All Things Library? You’re nothing but a shameless person using your power to bully others.”

This kid...

Mr. Qilom supported his slender chin.

I’m finding myself liking him more and more. To dare speak such death-seeking words in front of a princess of a nation.

Seeing Latis with tears glistening in her eyes, Mr. Qilom couldn’t help but feel a guilty pleasure.

Though Latis had toned down her arrogance compared to years ago, it was still far from enough.

Growing up in a privileged environment, she only saw the pursuits and glory of the Nobles, blind to the suffering of the common people. She needed a good tongue-lashing like this.

Mr. Qilom had wanted to lash out at Latis just as Yang Yu did long ago, but his status prevented him from openly cursing her. After all, if he really got serious, making the mere Latis cry wouldn’t be an issue.

However, what will you do next? Latis, as a princess of a nation, won’t let your loud reprimand go, can you withstand her counterattack?

Latis pursed her lips tightly, her eyes filled with indignation, ”On that point, I was wrong. But...”

Latis attempted a counterattack, but her words were directly cut in two by Yang Yu’s sharp gaze.

”But ’you can’t be so harsh, you should show me basic respect as a princess of a nation’?

Do you want to wildly seize the moral high ground using your royal status after cautioning me?

Sorry, but I am just an ordinary outsider, not a citizen of the Luoze Empire, and this isn’t the Luoze Empire—I don’t buy into that.

If we are dealing with the rules and regulations of the All Things Library, I am happy to comply.

But I only took five million from Mr. Qilom, and in my haste to leave, you are making subjective conjectures and rash deductions.

It’s our first visit to the Library, our first assessment of the Library—it’s totally normal and understandable that we’d be afraid that the openings would sell out.

Don’t assume that what you consider common sense is our common sense.

If you had asked gently, we would have been willing to answer. But your tone... tsk tsk tsk.

You’re completely venting your anger on me. Because Mr. Qilom disagreed with you, because he was willing to negotiate with me but didn’t want to see you, you’re taking it out on me.

Meeting with Mr. Qilom to negotiate sponsorship, then leaving to buy openings at the Library—such a trivial matter, so why are you making it sound like I’ve done something wrong?

Why are you trying to force a sense of guilt onto me?

Aren’t you being arrogant?”

Mr. Qilom hadn’t expected Yang Yu to strike first with soul-searching questions, blocking Latis’s rebuttal before she could even make it.

His words were logical and emphatic, cutting straight to the heart of the matter. It seemed that even if Latis found a tiny flaw and tried to counterattack, she would quickly be shut down by him—truly terrifying.

In fact, Yang Yu had many more points with which to confront Latis, such as the secret weapon of the Silver Orchid Union and the war between Luoze and Wansheng Country. But Yang Yu stopped short, aware that many others were watching. After all, it wouldn’t be pleasant to actually make a girl cry in public.

Yang Yu wasn’t afraid of Latis’s grudge, nor was he afraid of becoming an enemy of the Luoze Empire. Worst comes to worst, he could always escape to the Wansheng Empire, hostile to Luoze.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

After all, finding Iyas’s brother, there was definitely the task of sending him back to the country. There would surely be plenty of Racial Essence of other races in Wansheng Country. Considering he would be in Wansheng Country for a significant amount of time, he would inevitably have to establish some sort of relationship with the Luoze Empire to secure his foothold there.

From this perspective, becoming enemies with Luoze was only a matter of time.

Better to turn hostile earlier rather than starting off on good terms and then being backstabbed later.

When others ask, ”Why did you betray the Human race and side with the Beastmen?”, he could boldly say, ”The fault is not mine, but yours. At first, I simply spoke the truth, yet I was resented by your Royal Family, claiming that for the dignity and glory of the Royalty I had to be eliminated. Thus, I had no choice but to join the Wansheng Empire!”

At that moment, what would emanate from him was the bold spirit of a backed-into-a-corner Hero, not the stench of a greedy and dishonorable wretch.

”Princess Latis, do you have anything you wish to say? The only mistake I am guilty of is disrespecting you.”

A smile appeared on Yang Yu’s face.

”But you should really think about who disrespected whom first. If you treat the world with kindness, the world will treat you with kindness in return. One-sided demands will only result in inequality and dissatisfaction.”
