Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Follow My Position

”Do I even need to ask?”

Clutching the fletching of her arrow tightly, driving her nails into her fingertips, Iyas’s response was without a hint of hesitation. She strained her trembling arms as she drew her longbow,

”If the only way to save my brother is to become stronger, I will get stronger with you all!”

An arrow suddenly left the quiver, tracing a white arc through the air with a piercing whoosh.

The Dark Knight lifted his shield to ward off Iyas’s attack, but the arrow seemed to possess a magical force, ignoring the shield’s defense and striking directly at its vulnerable core.

A critical hit to a vital spot, Iyas’s Strong Fortune kicked in once again, dealing explosive damage in one strike.

But...

This penetrative, critical hit only depleted one-tenth of the Dark Knight’s blood volume.

A prolonged battle was inevitable.

”Bai Jin, ’Healing Prohibition,’ ’Armor Corrosion.’”

A boss existing between life and death—if it couldn’t heal at all, Yang Yu wouldn’t believe it.

Now, Bai Jin’s role as a Curse Mage who could reduce healing became pronounced. As long as Bai Jin had enough mana, she could continuously apply reduced healing to prevent the boss from desperately raising its blood volume with a gulp of Healing, which would render their efforts null and void.

Expertly chanting a spell, a purple Array formed in Bai Jin’s hand, and with a wave forward, a purple light projected onto the Dark Knight.

Shortly thereafter, Bai Jin began chanting a second spell; however, at that moment, she felt a piercing pain in her chest, as if a huge pair of hands had grasped her lungs tightly, leaving her gasping for breath.

Bearing the throbbing pain in her chest, Bai Jin pretended nothing was wrong, crafted ’Armor Corrosion,’ and cast it on the Dark Knight.

”Try to find its vulnerabilities for normal attacks and be vigilant of its movements at all times; I’ll cover you.”

After reminding the two in the back, Yang Yu, holding his shield, charged at the Dark Knight and in the blink of an eye, reached its front and slashed at its chest.

The purple-quality sword, with just over a hundred points of strength, inflicted less than 50 points of damage to the Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight hoisted a long spear ablaze with golden flames and swept it forward; Yang Yu immediately opened his shield to release ’Shield Counter,’ blocking the Dark Knight’s attack with his shield covered in red thorns.

Yang Yu had hoped to scratch off a bit of the Dark Knight’s blood with this move; however, the Dark Knight’s attack was mixed physical and magical damage.

The ’Shield Counter’ skill could only counter physical damage, and this time the counterattack only shaved off a little over sixty points of the Dark Knight’s blood, while Yang Yu himself took over two hundred points of mixed damage.

Yang Yu let go of his shield and widened the distance, immediately changing his strategy.

Unable to both defend and attack effectively, he resolutely abandoned the chance for significant close combat and shelved the ”Shield Counter” and ”Shield Block” skills, focusing his mind on dodging the majority of the Dark Knight’s attacks and leaving more opportunities to attack for Bai Jin and Iyas.

Bai Jin currently boasted over 400 in Intelligence, and a simple ”Frost Ice Arrow” could deal considerable damage to the Dark Knight. Relying on Strong Fortune, Iyas too could inflict significant damage using ”Hunter Mark” and the armor-ignoring ”Gale Point Break.”

As long as Yang Yu could find gaps to distract the Dark Knight with sporadic attacks, drawing its hostility and firepower, Bai Jin and Iyas could safely stand and deliver.

Victory was just a matter of time.

However, danger often came from the unknown.

Which skills the BOSS possessed, Yang Yu did not know; what kind of chain reactions those skills might trigger was also completely unknown to him.

The dark floor, walls, and ceiling were divided into black squares by golden flames.

Yang Yu didn’t think that this Dark Knight, who at Level 100 should’ve been formidable, was simply trying to show off by dividing the space into countless intricate squares.

Bai Jin continuously chanted spells, wielding ”Frost Ice Arrow,” while Iyas pulled arrows out of the Magic Quiver, aiming and peppering the Dark Knight like rain with a relentless Bam.

The desire to save her brother helped Iyas suppress the trembling in her body, but whenever the attack ceased, her hands would involuntarily begin to twitch.

The fear brought by the Dark Knight never faded from her heart, a fear instinctive to her body as a mouse fears a cat, not something that could be dispelled with mere words.

To prevent her body from trembling like her heart, Iyas could only nock her arrows quickly, unleashing them upon the Dark Knight.

But aside from ”Gale Point Break,” ordinary bows and arrows hitting the shield did not do much damage.

Yang Yu noticed this as well and would make a small attack whenever Iyas was about to fire, causing the Dark Knight to raise its shield just a bit slower, creating opportunities for her shots.

Finally, after relentless efforts from the three of them, the Dark Knight’s Blood Volume dropped to three-quarters.

Suddenly, the Dark Knight raised its Long Spear, spreading a pale golden protective shield from the tip, instantly blocking all their attacks.

”The conditions for starting the game have been met,” the mature voice rang out again, ”Please handle with care, this is the first game I play with you.”

As it spoke, the Dark Knight plunged its Long Spear into the ground, and golden flames swept around its protective shield like a Hurricane, rippling through the darkness.

”Black for Death, Gold for Life. I am the Darkness, dwelling in the light. Death rises from below, and a bright cross intersects, stirring ripples, turning the Watermill and irrigating the green fields, where new life begins.”

What? Could it be...

Yang Yu leapt backward, shouting loudly at Bai Jin and Iyas, who were unsure whether to attack, ”Stop attacking, all of you stand behind me, and follow my lead!”

Iyas and Bai Jin both ceased their attacks and hurried behind Yang Yu.

Suddenly, the floor tiles under Yang Yu and the adjacent rows on both sides shone brilliantly, turning from black to gold, and the three rows of tiles to the left and right of the Dark Knight also lit up, forming a dazzling cross centered around the Dark Knight in the darkness.

The emergence of this dazzling cross made the darkness in the space fluctuate, and after five seconds, the darkness shot up to the pitch-black ceiling, forming a black wall on either side of the trio.

Those two black walls, filled with Death and stillness, seemed to pull one in with a mere touch.

No, just looking at them made one feel dragged into the darkness.

The walls only lasted a few seconds before the black walls turned into Black Mist and completely merged with the ceiling, and the golden lines again divided each patch of darkness into even and smooth squares as if nothing had happened.

Just as Iyas was about to breathe a sigh of relief, Yang Yu’s voice rang in her ears again,

”If you don’t want to die, from this point forward, stay alert, listen to every command I give, and move with me!”
